I want to heap praise on DeLuna! Not only was she fun to talk with, she outdid my vision for my cut. Dang, I look good! If you're looking for a men's cut I fully recommend DeLuna and Moxie. Great atmosphere and staff!

Cici took a vague description of my somewhat alternative hairstyle and knocked it out of the park. I’ll never cut my hair on my own again. The studio is also so beautiful and a treat to be in. Thank you Cici for the amazing cut I will be suggesting her to everyone I know.

Love the relaxed and unpretentious vibe here. Taryn is amazing and as sweet as can be. She listens and provides her professional advice for what we are trying to accomplish. I love my highlights and cut. She's the best.

My visit to Moxie Hair Lounge was a regrettable experience from start to finish. I initially went in for a perm, expecting a reasonable price for the service. However, the shock came when I was handed a bill of $200, including a mysterious $40 charge for a so-called "secret" haircut, which turned out to be nothing more than a single strand of hair being snipped. The pricing was not only exorbitant but also unjustifiably high compared to a different salon where I received both a perm and a cut for a mere $60.The ordeal didn't end with the pricing issue; Moxie insisted on a pre-appointment "consultation" that proved to be a complete waste of time. It neither added value to my desired hairstyle nor justified the extra expenses. This unnecessary step in the process seemed like a tactic to elongate the appointment and extract more money from customers. In contrast, the other salon I visited efficiently understood my preferences without dragging me through a prolonged and fruitless consultation. To compound the frustration, Moxie Hair Lounge rescheduled my initial appointment, leaving me waiting for weeks to get my hair done. This scheduling mishap showcased a lack of professionalism and organizational competence, especially when compared to the seamless management of appointments at the more customer-friendly salon. In conclusion, Moxie Hair Lounge not only proved to be unreasonably expensive but also failed to deliver the efficiency and affordability found in other, more customer-centric establishments. I cannot recommend this salon to anyone seeking a positive and reasonably priced hairdressing experience.

I have salon formula dark brown hair (level 3/4). My roots are natural dark blonde. I booked an appointment for balayage or highlights, hoping to go back to the lighter blonde family (like medium) or dark rose gold, depending on what would be easier to accomplish. Rose gold because I know bleach on brunette lifts to red already. On recommendation once there, contrary to the booking, I received a bleach bath after responding very well to a strand test. Colorist was both dumbfounded and pleasantly surprised by the amount of lift it gave in a short amount of time. But then, she put two toner on it (including my lighter roots I’ve been growing out) that brought it right back to dark brown again (including roots) and very dark brown/black on the ends~wiyh midshaft copper. Almost *exactly* back to where I started except worse, a mess. I paid $300 for this service and charged as balayage; It was not a color correction and not balayage.I’d have accepted this if it served the end goal, except she said at the end of the service that at my ‘next’ visit she was ‘hopeful’ with another round of bleach to get my hair to (exact words) ‘maybe?’ ‘Hopefully?’ a level 7 which is pretty much what the first lift already is/ was.She also said I’d likely need to cut my hair off to collar bone (so about 6 inches). I asked for more information on both of these things (still haven’t gotten a reply) because I never said I wanted to cut it all off nor was aiming for dark blonde all over, so close to my natural. Im also not sure why I was only told this after bleaching my entire head, rather than after the strand test. There is no box dye in my hair at all, only demi formula 9 volume Dia Richesse every few months and my hair is in good condition. Ive had black box dye with balayage in the past and had absolutely no issues and was charged half this price. There’s no reason why half of my head should be black right now and most the rest dark brown.I get transitioning to lighter hair is a process, but this should have had a consultation beforehand if this colorist wasn’t able to transition someone from dark to light hair and express clearly that process involves and provide some kind of dialogue for what the outcome is actually going to be/ or articulate what the challenges are so I could make a better decision(s). I’m $300 in with no positive change, an even more complicated hair situation now, and basically, was at the end of my service delivered the message that I’m not going to get anything I want without making sacrifices, unnecessary and expensive visits, even though my hair lifted to target range in the first visit, minus some of the hues.I feel like I’ve been open with communication and I feel robbed. I believe at this point I can easily get what I’m looking for, it’s just going to involve going elsewhere and with someone whose upfront and transparent.Pictures include my lift (my phone cancelled out some of the red, but you can see the level lightness) and the after with the toner applied that turned my hair black.I gave two stars because my cut on my first visit to the salon was good, however I do not recommend the salon for color.Edit: just read the other reviewers and seems like my experience isn’t atypical. Just avoid altogether.

After recently mining from NYC where i had my hair cut by the same guy for about 15 years, I was very anxious when it came time to find a new stylists in Charlottesville. I picked Moxie because I liked their website, it has a cool, NYC vibe to it, and they had weekend hours. I don’t understand business es here that are only open when the majority of people are at work ?. Anyway, I was “assigned” to Emily who was fun from the very start. She was easy to talk to, understood my anxiety, and walked me through each step all the while ensuring I was onboard with the game plan. I left loving my haircut and feeling very lucky for finding Moxie and Emily at my first attempt!!

I had a stylist who did a great job for my first couple of cut/color, but as I kept going back, her services took a careless turn. She seemed distracted most of the time, and chattered endlessly about covid and her kids while she was supposed to be doing my hair. Soggy experiences at the shampoo sinks. They got my shirt so wet one time they offered to put it in the dryer. I got the impression that the shampoo shower must be a regular thing, but doesn't make it right. My stylist was always being interrupted by other stylists. There were times I headed straight home rather than finishing my errands on hair days, because I didn't want to be seen with my hair all chopped like that. It was ridiculous. I wouldn't recommend Moxie and frankly regret wasting several months hoping they'd do better.

Have had two fabulous experiences here, my most recent cut with junior stylist Sky was outstanding. I have very dry curly hair, prone to frizziness and breakage, and I have two sections of hair loss from medical issues. So, I know I’m not the easiest client to work on.Sky talked to me about the plan for the trim and checked in with me at each stage of the cut. Their care from shampoo to blow-dry was gentle and informative. I left feeling lighter than ever and the layering she added gave me much needed volume in the areas I have had the most thinning.I would not hesitate to request their service again!

I really wish I listened to other reviewers on here. It sounds like it's hit or miss here. Unfortunately I was not one of the folks who were lucky enough to had a good experience.I went in for a haircut and it was, by far, the worst experience I've ever had going somewhere to get my hair done. I dont typically write reviews, but I needed to warn others. Here was my experience.- The stylist asked me about my hair and generally what I wanted, which, is totally what I'd expect.- Then the hair washing came up and my hair was yanked, leaving me with a headache a day later. I figured this was fine, not everyone can be good at washing hair. It got worse.- When we got back to the chair, she didn't say anything, she just started chopping my hair. All she said was commenting me to move my head back or forth. Which, that's fine if you dont want to talk during a haircut, but I didnt have any kind of input until after she'd already dried my hair and asked me what I thought.- I said it wasn't quite what I was used to and if we could frame my face.- She gave me attitude about making changes and made me feel even more uncomfortable. Which I now regret letting her do. Because...- As someone else mentioned in a review on Yelp, they asked for framing done to their hair and left with some weird bang thing.- I left and immediately cried in my car after, hating my hair and now I just have to wait for it to grow out.- I called that day in tears and was told a manager would reach out. I had to call them back the next day and didn't get to chat with someone that day because I can't wait around all day for them to call me back, which they did towards the end of the day.- They eventually got back to me. Management offered to fix my hair, but at this point, I don't feel comfortable going there anymore, nor do I feel like it's something that would be fixable as I'm active and I'd like my hair to be up. Only way to fix this is to cut more off and til then I'm wearing my hair up as much as possible. My only good experience here was with Cathy, who did my brows. She was friendly and did a good job.Service: Haircut

First time I went didn’t not have the best experience with a beginner stylist (the cut was NOT what I asked for even with reference photos given). HOWEVER, I gave this place a second chance with a more experienced stylist (Olivia ❤️) and now I wouldn’t dream of going somewhere else!
