McGuffey Art Center, located one block from the Downtown Mall in a historical school building, is one of the oldest artist-run cooperative art centers in the country. The art center currently houses 48 renting artists with open studios and 6 incubator residency artists. The art center is open to the public to view monthly exhibitions which showcase works by artists in the association and within the greater Charlottesville community. McGuffey also hosts group tours, workshops, classes, summer art camps, and community events. The art center is appreciated by the community for its sustained efforts in creating a space for local artists. Visitors can explore the open studios, view diverse artworks, and even purchase them. While it may not be as large as museums in major cities, the art center provides a unique platform for Charlottesville's vibrant artist community to showcase their talents.
Come visit me, and the other artists, in our studios!!

Charlottesville is fortunate to have this space for artists. My child took a fabulous Improv class for middle schoolers through the Big Blue Door here. The facility is fantastic. The artists are second to none. Highly recommend spending time here.

Love our local art center! They have so many studios and the artists are nice and welcoming to visitors. They also change exhibits every season (?), so there are always something new to see. I like taking my guests to visit there when I take them to the downtown mall all the time.
