The staff are always very friendly! I had to make a return for a pair of jeans that were a size too small and Jacob was really helpful. When he couldn't find my size in store he went ahead and shipped them to my apartment for no extra fee. I'm not a huge shopper, but I make an exception for Madewell not only because their clothes are my fav but also because the staff are so nice :)

What a terrible experience, I went in to buy a shirt I saw on the maniquin. The three associates were huddled together chatting. No one ever came to the cash register to check me out. I put the shirt back and left. I will never consider this store again.

I do not recommend buying clothes and to my surprise they were used clothes with hair and with lice and nits and cockroaches in the place, bad service from the staff, Gaby is supposedly the manager and she does not put order and does not clean

I cannot even begin to describe what an amazing experience I had at this location. Customer service was EXEMPLARY. I walked into the store with the idea that there would be nothing for me in my size to try on. As my partner was trying on clothes I started asking someone I think her name was Britney! (sp?) about their jean sizing. She was so warm and kind. I was so uncomfortable and nervous--as I have not tried to buy jeans in years as I am so hard to fit in jeans being plus sized and having a smaller waist and bigger butt and thighs. She was so patient and knowledgeable and figured out some options in store I could try on! After a couple different pairs we found some that were perfect! And so comfortable. She helped me SO MUCH even just going over what I can look for moving forward with sizing and ordering online! I was there with my partner and his mom and we all left in jeans because of her and the awesome team! They made me feel so special and had no idea what that meant to me as someone who has ALWAYS dreaded trying on clothes ESPECIALLY jeans and bathing suits LOL. My partners mom was nervous to try on more modern jeans and with Britney and my encouragement found such a stylish pair in her correct size (she thought her size was larger and Britney helped find the perfect fit!). While Britney was helping us my partner was being helped by their INCREDIBLE style consultant. They were so helpful and my partner found a perfect pair of jeans with their help. There was another employee who was super sweet and helpful I just can't remember her name. PLEASE GIVE THESE PEOPLE A RAISE OR BONUS OR NEW CAR OR FREE VACATION THEY WENT ABOVE AND BEYOND ON A BUSY SATURDAY!!!! I have not gotten customer service like that in YEARSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE, Finley and company :)

I love the clothes at Madewell! However, every time I visit, the staff is incredibly cold and rude. There are two employees that treat me politely and are kind enough to help me. I feel judged every time I walk inside for how I look or what I wear. It seems like people who are white or frequent shoppers get treated with respect and warmth…

I am so disappointed with Madewell. I've been an insanely loyal customer for over six years, buying only Madewell jeans since the first time I tried a pair on. I'm a huge fan of their quality and have turned my mom and best friend into addicts too. I just went into the Charlottesville location, wanting to return/exchange a pair that I purchased there on Saturday last week. I bought a new pair because I've gone down two sizes and wanted to treat myself to some new ones. They didn't have the style that I wanted, so I went with the pair that the associate suggested. I wore them out of the store because she told me that I could donate the pair that I wore in that day. I wore them home and when looking in the mirror some more, I just didn't feel good or confident in that style. I came back today and they told me that because I had worn them out of the store, that they weren't eligible for return or exchange. I'm extremely upset because I spent $115 on a pair of jeans that I wore for an hour and a half, that I don't feel good in. To pour gasoline on the fire even more, she had the gall to tell me that if I didn't like them that I could DONATE them back to the store! She said that there was nothing else that they could do. I informed her that I was a loyal customer and would never come in again because this just didn't seem acceptable. Im not trying to sound like a "Karen" but I've worked in retail for over 15 years and I had expected a higher level of customer service with such a high-quality brand. Never have I attempted to return jeans there before, because I've always loved what I have gotten, but I can guarantee I will never go back again...

Today was my second visit to the store and I was pleasantly surprised to see new inventory. I love how you are adding new items-all FABULOUS! Melissa at the Charlottesville store is very knowledgeable on sizes and pointing out accessories etc… you are lucky to have such great customer service! I’m now a returning shopper and will spread the word! Kudos!

I was incredibly upset and disappointed by some of the staff here. I found some of them to be unprofessional. When I would ask a question, I was met with either blank stares or annoyed responses. I did not feel welcomed here and will not be coming back due to the poor service. There was only one person there who was kind enough to help me, but other than that, the others were cold, spoke to me as if I were a child, and made faces at me when they thought I would not notice. I am surprised because the reviews here are quite good so I am not sure why I received this kind of treatment. I hope that no one else gets treated like how I did and that this was just an off day for some of them. This was my first time here as well.
