I have a large BMD who had eaten almost an entire polyester tote bag. They were able to get it all out of her quickly to avoid x rays and surgery. Thank you so much to Dr. Hymel and all the amazingly kind staff for treating my girl with such care! I was amazed we were in and out within an hour.

My big old Lab mix had some "dietary indiscretion" and gave himself a bad case of pancreatitis and hemorrhagic gastritis while I was out of town. By the time I got him to Greenbrier he was in very rough shape. They were able to quickly diagnosis and treat him. He stayed one night at the hospital and came back for drop in treatments for two more nights. They communicated clearly about treatment options, cost and timing. I am happy to say my old boy made a complete recovery and is back to living his best life. Thank you everyone at Greenbrier Emergency Animal Hospital!

Absolutely amazing team of staff, after driving to another emergency in verona and no luck we decided to make the hour drive in the pouring rain to Greenbrier and it was the best decision ever, they took really good care of our pup and treated us very well as panicking owners and definitely helped us when we didn’t know what to do.
definitely recommend Making the drive it was worth it!

Took great care of our dog when she had HGE. Hope to never use them again, but grateful to know they’re here if we need them.

My boy recently got into some cookies with raisins and 48 hours of IV fluid and blood tests were well coordinated between my day vet and GEAH. They were kind, efficient and great communicators. My dog did not appear unduly stressed through it and is fine.

The good folks at Greenbrier emergency most likely saved my little kitty’s life, and the staff is friendly and caring and upfront about prices. I’m very grateful to them!

My little dog somehow threw his back out and wasn’t able to stand or walk. Since it was after 5 on a Friday, I had to drive him down to Charlottesville to be seen. The staff was very friendly and accommodating to us. They kept me in the loop the whole time. Thankfully my little man woke up the next morning completely Normal. It was a great experience and am happy that they are there for emergencies!

Our big old doofus got himself bit on the face by a copperhead in the front yard while we were relaxing on Sunday night in preparation for the new week. You know that feeling. Sitting at the ER was def not in our plans. But it was actually a great experience! I’m a retired CVT myself but all my professional peers/friends are in New England- I was nervous about who I could trust to treat our dog the same way I or my friends would. From kind Hannah over the phone/at the front desk to sweet Joshua who took our guy back and discharged him at the end…plus another nice tech whose name I didn’t get…and then the very capable, professional yet friendly Dr. Hymel who treated our guy, everyone was just wonderful. I was at ease immediately- I knew he was in great hands. This is a rough job and I can smell burnout on fellow vet med folks from a mile away, but I didn’t get even a whiff of that from anyone here, amazingly. As for cost- as someone who reviews veterinary ER invoices from all over the country every single day for insurance claims, I can 100% assure you that these are quite reasonable prices. I had expected a way bigger bill, in fact. Emergencies aren’t free- there is inherent stress and drama and sometimes things don’t turn out how you might like. All anyone really wants is to help your pet as much as possible. This staff is kind, skilled and explanatory and you can feel safe handing off your pet to them to do what needs to be done. Clean, peaceful lobby- waiting is NORMAL in an ER, expect it. They HAVE to triage and prioritize- just be thankful yours isn’t the most critical case if you’re waiting longer than you’d like. Stretch your legs by driving down the street and buying them some snacks at 7-11…ER staff is highly underappreciated and it’ll make their overnight shift just a little less grueling. Greenbrier, y’all are awesome! Sunshine says thanks.

They truly cared about what was going on with our cat and gave us different options to help him get better. They took the time to explain everything and made sure we and our cat were ok. They were all very friendly and helpful. They even checked up on our cat a couple weeks later to make sure he was still doing good. Recommend them highly for your emergency needs!!!

Our puppy, Griffin, had injured his leg or paw but was whining and howling so much that we couldn't inspect it. We took him to Greenbier Emergency Animal Hospital where he got great care from all the staff there!
We appreciate everyone's concern, help and thoughtfulness while we were there and the vet who helped us was patient with us too (we were amazed he hadn’t really hurt himself)!
My ONLY reason for omitting one star is because we would really like to go into the exam room, not only to be with our young puppy but to watch and listen to the vet as he examined our dog. I hope this will go back to before pandemic times soon.
Thanks for the great care!

I appreciate the honest, professional, and concerning care my dog received in a painful situation. And the time the veteran took to ensure she understood the situation and explain the care needed back to me.

3 weeks ago our dog - Ziggy, black lab - wasn't himself. He wouldn't get out of the car, nor move, nor acknowledge me in any way. I had to carry his 80-pound self inside the door and lay him down on the landing where he just stared at the steps and didn't acknowledge me at all. My wife and I called the emergency vet within 5 minutes of being home, worried sick. They asked us a bunch of questions over the phone and advised us to bring him in immediately, as he had been munching on the compost pile.
When we brought him in there was only one vet available and they were in surgery. Ziggy walked in a drunken manner (not from alcohol) inside the vet center and crashed onto the floor on my leg. He was beginning to have tremors and seizures right on top of me. Once the staff saw him seizing, they immediately carried his heavy body back to get some immediate attention (ahead of several other sick puppies). After about 20 minutes of waiting they diagnosed him with eating some tremorgenic mycotoxin which was causing his seizures.
If not for our and their immediate action, we would have lost our dog that day. With their quick treatment, only a matter of 18 hours later we were bringing him home and as healthy as could be all things considered.
We consider ourselves extremely fortunate and blessed to have had Ziggy treated by Greenbrier Emergency Animal Hospital. They literally saved his life. Thank you so much to the staff and vets and team for prioritizing him and figuring out his treatment plan so rapidly. We're looking forward to 10 more years with our dog and have you all to thank.
