Very cozy historic two hundred year old inn in downtown Charlottesville. Close to eveything. Great location. Room was comfortable and breakfast is delicious. Staff is super friendly. Parking is convenient as well.
Walkability: UVA and downtown is walkable.

1 of the best hotel stays I've ever had. Super clean room, and they have a beautiful restaurant in which they serve delicious breakfast. I wanted to book a room for my daughter's graduation, but unfortunately, all was taken. I really recommend this place.

My girlfriend Donna was due back on Amtrak Monday morning. After work, I drove 5 hours on Sunday to Charlottesville, Virginia. The biggest reason I selected the Dinsmore Inn was that former President Thomas Jefferson had a chief architect build the Dinsmore Inn. I stayed in room #1 called the Madison. Very large and compfy four posted bed. A non-functioning fireplace with two chairs and a loveseat in the room. The main lighting fixture is a chandelier. The two night stands have a small stylish lamp on each. And.....lots of outlets to plug in your electronics. There is a tv as well with lots of reading material nearby. The upscale bathroom is a bit small. The shower is walled off with glass and a huge mirror is over the sink and toilet. There is a sewing kit, razor and afew other toiletry items to use if needed on a ledge below the mirror. Also, two robes hanging on the bathroom door. There is a closet with hangers, an iron and ironing board. My host Vanessa escorted me to my room. There is a card and parking voucher to use to park your vehicle in the parking garage behind the inn. If you are a light sleeper like I am, the Madison is the room to pick. The rooms facing the street can be quite noisy at night.Vanessa was nice to loan me a white noise machine. Between being in a back room with the air-conditioning and the white noise machine running, I didn't have to worry about street noise. There is anon-site restaurant that offers locally-inspired, new-Southern cuisine and serves the most popular BRUNCH in town 7-days a week. Blending traditional ingredients with modern culinary techniques, Farm Bell incorporates rich flavors, and embraces the farm-to-table movement. (I copied that from the website) the next morning, I was able to enjoy a complimentary brunch at their restaurant. You do need to make reservations. It is a hot spot for the locals. I throughly enjoyed my stay at the Dinsmore Inn. Special note: even though the server doesn't offer it, they do have hot chocolate in a massive coffee cup. I dislike coffee and can't have tea due to kidney stones. Hot Chocolate it is.

Did not get the room we reserved. We got a noisy and old room toward the Maine Street. No cancellation was the policy. But we got a noise reduction machine to help us sleep.

Great stay at this quaint little inn. Vanessa was great. We arrived late and she couldn’t get ahold of us due to booking through a third party site.Great little restaurant inside the inn. Food was awesome.

The Dinsmore room was very pretty and recently updated looking but due to the noise of the street and hotel itself (think creaking floors and very old loud pipes all night), we unfortunately had to get a room for two nights at the courtyard Marriott next door. I hate to leave a bad review but if you prioritize sleep, I would just caution to stay elsewhere.I also found the innkeepers texts trying to get us to eat breakfast at the hotel’s restaurant to be a bit overwhelming.Walkability: It was very close to campus and the corner so easy to walk places as are the other hotels on that block.

Very poor treatment by the General Manager, Ms G, who was overtly rude and insulting. We reserved 3 nights using American Express Travel Services. Upon arrival the hotel was locked with no instructions posted anywhere about where to check in or get a key. When we called the hotel number our msg went into VM. After subsequent phone attempts the General Mgr, Ms G, finally answered the phone. She indicated that policy is for the hotel to call patrons within 48 hours of a stay to review procedures to access the hotel. Since our reservation was booked through AmEx the number on file was the booking company, not ours. She proceeded to say we should have booked directly through the hotel, not AmEx. She instructed us to return to the front door and she would unlock it and let us in. We arrived at the front assuming she was down the hall somewhere, and rang the bell, then again after some time thinking it was not working or was not loud enough for her to hear. After 10 minutes she opened the door, having walked from another part of the building, and proceeded to berate us for "hanging on the doorbell" and immediately asked if we would like to leave and book a room elsewhere. We travel quite a bit and stay oftentimes in small hotels, so we are used to unique situations and experiences. This is the worst experience we have had in 30 years. We took Ms. G up on her offer to book elsewhere and left, but not after she yelled at us to move our car out of her dedicated parking space. Gladly removed. Good riddance.

The Dinsmore Inn is our favorite place to stay in Cville -- mainly thanks to its expert guest service from veteran innkeeper Veda Garner. I've worked for many years with leaders in the hospitality industry, and Veda is among the very best. She has elevated the Dinsmore to a premier property and guest experience. She and her staff will take good care of you, and you'll want to come back again and again!Rooms: Utterly charming and well-appointed.Nearby activities: Walkable to UVA's grounds and Main Street.Walkability: Incredibly walkable.Food & drinks: Splendid meals!Noteworthy details: Charming historic property.

We had a wonderful stay at the Dinsmore. Veda was a very gracious host and gave us lots of wonderful recommendations. The building is beautiful and the rooms comfortable and spacious! The brunch was absolutely delicious. This is an excellent location and we were able to easily walk to a concert at the John Paul Jones Arena. We especially enjoyed meeting our new friend Wrigley! Thank you for a lovely visit, we cannot wait to come back!
