Berkeley Plantation is such a beautiful historic site to learn about the history on it and I do recommend it. Charles City has such a rich history.

From the moment We walked through the door, to the moment we left this place was awesome. The lady in the front office was very friendly and helpful and also gave us our tour. She was so sweet and even brought the cat George over to see us.
The grounds are very clean and well kept. The house is magical! The history is inspiring...
There is a monument about taps that will absolutely pull your heart strings.
Will be going back

Had a wonderful tour on September 23, 2024. Berkeley Plantation is a beautiful place with amazing history going back to 1619. Our tour guide C....... was exceptional!!! He has an awesome command of the history and presents in an entertaining way. This is one of the best national/Virginia history places to visit. Definitely go!

Tour guide was excellent however didnt get to see entire plantation do to second story was modern and true plantation life was not seen. Could not see what real history was like do to modernizations on second floor ie a kitchen so wasn't shown . They were not sure to display which time period.. made it very confusing.

The grounds are beautiful. Highly disappointed in the lack of knowledge and history of the slaves who built and worked the land. An hour long tour and hardly anything about the slaves. Nothing about the Indians they stole from and murdered to get the land. One bit of history that was mentioned about the slaves was that they didn’t have any of the slave homes because they tore them down and used for firewood. That spoke volumes

One of the best tours I have ever been on. I wish I caught his name. An older black gentleman. He was incredible. He was so full of knowledge and the way he talked to us was just so wonderful. He shared so much about the history of this home and he said he loves history and you can definitely see it. He works directly for the owner of the plantation. I can't say enough about this house if you are interested in plantation life and our country's history and our founding fathers. I would so do this again

Beautiful plantation. The tour guide/mgr was terrific! It was too hot to walk around the property but the view was very nice. LOVE that it is still used as a residence sometimes. Thank you

We didn't go in it looks like a nice kept up plantation but they wanted $33 for the two of us. Seems unreasonable

Would highly recommend visiting! We had an amazing tour guide who was so knowledgeable & friendly! The plantation is so full of history. I’ve lived in Virginia pretty much my whole life and never knew until today that this is really where the first Thanksgiving took place! Beautiful grounds and full of cardinals! I’ve never seen so many. And King George (the cat) is a very well mannered & handsome little fella! :)

The property and the tour provided us with much information about one of the oldest plantations in the United States. Being the site of the first thanksgiving in 1619 and being the home of Benjamin Harrison V and President William Henry Harrison, one could almost feel the residual historic energy surrounding yourself as you toured the mansion and saw personal belongings and other historic artifacts. Our tour guide maintains a passion for the history of the property, and Berkeley should be proud in preserving such a monument to US History as well as the English Atlantic.

Overall, a pleasant Candlelight Chrstmas Tour with a knowledgeable and friendly guide, but the accessibility and historical interpretation need some improvement.Positives:1. Tour guide: Knowledgeable, engaging, and friendly.2. Modified tour: Interesting addition of holiday traditions to the standard tour.3. Atmosphere: Candlelight ambience creates a unique and festive experience.Negatives:1. Accessibility: Lack of readily available seating for guests with mobility limitations. My mother, who uses a cane, had difficulty finding a place to rest and ultimately had to sit in an un-designated (yet not cordoned off) area, causing concern from the guide.2. Historical interpretation: The focus on "favored" enslaved people felt insensitive and minimized the reality of their forced labor.3. Historical accuracy: Some inaccuracies, such as referring to Yule as a Celtic word when it's Old Norse (juul).Suggestions:1. Accessibility: Provide designated seating throughout the tour route for guests with mobility limitations.2. Historical interpretation: Shift the focus away from individual enslaved people and towards the broader institution of slavery and its impact on Christmas traditions at the plantation. Provide a deeper exploration of enslaved people's contributions to the holiday preparations.Additional thoughts:– I applaud your interest in learning more about the enslaved people's experiences at Berkeley Plantation. Adding programs or discussions about their roles and lives during the holiday season would enrich the visitor experience and provide a more complete understanding of the plantation's history.– While limitations due to the historic nature of the building are understandable, offering more readily available seating would significantly improve the experience for guests with limited mobility.Overall, the tour had its positives, but the lack of accessibility and the insensitive historical interpretation were significant drawbacks. I believe addressing these issues and incorporating a more comprehensive view of the plantation's history would make the tour a more valuable and enriching experience for all visitors.

Very much enjoyed our tour there yesterday. Our guide enjoys her work, and it's obvious. She dresses close to period time, (in a very old house, it's a rather broad window)Even though it's winter, the gardens are very much worthwhile to.still stroll through; their Christmas decorations are extremely well done, and replaced fresh every week. It was a very worthwhile adventure, we're glad we drove the hour to get there.
