An aisle and a half of unmonitored booze but nobody can tell me if they even sell soy sauce.

From the "Sometimes Yelpers Be Basic" Review series...I love fried chicken. I always have and probably always will. I don't eat it all the time since it's not the healthiest food out there, but I have been known to indulge every so often.Fans of this treat have their favorite purveyor to satisfy their deep fried craving. Some people swear by KFC, Popeyes, Church's, while other's are more new school choosing Chik-Fil-A, Raising Cane's, or Zaxby's. While I've sampled some iteration of "fried chicken" at all of these places, do you know where my favorite fried chicken in the DMV is prepared? The Giant Food deli.Sounds crazy, I know; and even I wouldn't have believed it until I picked up an 8-piece order (I prefer the dark meat) and became a believer. This "conversion," if you will happened in early-2021 during the pandemic and almost purely by accident. I actually drove to KFC and then to Popeyes and couldn't get any chicken due to labor and supply chain issues (you remember those fun times, right?). So I popped in my local Giant Food and saw that an 8 piece order was on sale for $5.99 . I figured, the price was right and the food smelled good, so what did I have to lose? And when I got home and had my first bite, it was an enlightenment. The skin was perfectly GBD (golden/brown/delicious) and crispy, and the meat was moist and seasoned with just enough salt and spices. While I was only intending to consume 1-2 pieces and save the rest for the next day, I "may have" had 3-4 pieces since it was so tasty. As for any leftovers, I find popping them into an air fryer at 300 for about 10-15 minutes is perfect; an oven at 325 for about the same time also works well, but the skin won't be as crispy unless you use the broiler feature for the last 5 minutes of reheating. When I went back the next week to get another order, I was chatting with the guy at the deli who explained that all of the fried chicken is hand dipped and battered in each store, and fried constantly throughout the day. Explains why it taste so good. But admittedly, the trick is you have to time your visit when the chicken is fresh out of the fryer. Usually most of the deli's put their first batches into the fryer around 11:30am, so it's done at 12:15-12:30pm for the lunch rush / and then again around 4:30pm so the next batch is ready around 5:30pm. These are approximate times, so I'd check with your local Giant deli for their preparation schedule. As of this review, an 8-piece container is $7.99, which is still a heck of a good deal. There are usually combo deals available, where with the purchase of an 8-piece, you can also add a few "heat and serve" sides, and have a meal for less than $20.

For what it's worth, I go there for my simple shopping list. I appreciate the new upgraded aisles of all the new vegan friendly meals. Also the cleanliness and organizing, but I strongly wish their Customer Service was more emphasized. Every customer interaction will always remember how they were treated with respect and spoken to. Probably only a couple employees I can clearly recall being Super Kind to my time shopping there. It also seems like their Employees could use a boost of Morale, for those gloomy faces during their shift, it can have its effect on the atmosphere when you shop there. But overall, its the go-to when you just need something simple and convenient.

March 16, 2020 Around 2.10-2:20pm, at Giant 14125 ST. Germain Drive Centreville, VA 20121. I was waiting at the self-checkout line. I saw that register 3 was unoccupied I walked to that register , but there was a basket filled with food. I thought that there was someone there, so I stepped back to the line. Suddenly, a worker started yelling towards me that #3 is open. I was confused and walked towards the register, we asked that employee to move if she could move the basket away. She came and threw the basket (with products) away onto the floor. I started scanning and then I mistakenly scanned the ice tea twice. I called her to void the ice tea, but she void the wrong item. I called her back to inform her that she voided the wrong item. Then, she blamed me saying that I was supposed to specify her more. After voiding the correct item, she made fun of us behind our back to another person. She was telling the other person that she was not responsible for telling her customers of which lane they were supposed to go. After I came home I called to the store manager, named Bob. I told him to go consult with her. I felt like she insulted my human dignity. I suggest for you to check the camera at around 2.10-2:20 pm to see factual evidence. During the call with the manager, he told me that the employee was Jen. (During the event, the woman was really pissed and mad at me).I have never experience something as unprofessional and disgusting as this.

A shout out to all the Giant employees who showed up today running around like energizer bunnies on steroids trying their best to accommodate their customers. Thank you for your efforts. Your customers appreciate you !

The self checkout attendant was not pleasant to deal with. Didn't come over right away to help and when he did he snapped. "What!" he said, I told him 1 item scanned twice, he took my items slammed it on the counter, pushed my 5 year old out of the way, deleted the item then walked away. I don't care how bad your day was, don't ever touch a child. How rude and disrespectful can you be?

This has been my go-to Giant since moving to Centreville in 2018. However, after yet another lousy experience there tonight, I decided to post some feedback. I sincerely hope someone from Giant sees this & takes action to improve their service. Before departing home for my bi-weekly big grocery shopping, I pulled them up online & found that they were open until 11pm on Sundays. Since it was 8:25 I figured - PERFECT!! I'll beat the crowd & be out of there well before closing. Just as I expected, it was pretty empty & I quickly busted out filling up my cart with over $300 of groceries. Time check - 9:27pm I pull up to the registers with my massive, heaping cart to find they're all closed. I checked my phone - now 9:29. Hmmm it's not 11? Unfortunately, I'm used to this experience at this particular Giant (which I'll add I've NEVER experienced at any other Giant or grocery store) so I headed up to customer service to request a cashier. I get to the other side of the store to find a sign at the customer service desk stating that they closed at 9. Hmm I parked my cart & walked to self check out & asked the cashier standing guard there if she could call someone to assist me. She told me there was no one to call & to come to self check out & she would help me. Ummm... what?! Do you see the mountain of groceries inside my cart?! Again, she assured me she'd help me. So yet again I push my cart back through a maze & prepare for this epic self Check out. My helper? Yah, not around. Needless to say I was pissed & I'm sure my face showed it. The cashier popped up again & told me to hold on. She had found one of the several people there when I walked in who had all disappeared. She directed me to a register in a very abrupt manner & i headed back to another spot. Time now 9:47. As I started to unload the mountain, she said to me, once again in an abrupt & unfriendly manner: We close early tonight & don't have cashiers here late. Every other night they are here until 10:30 but not tonight. Maybe you'll remember that next time. Wait... what?!?!?! Did she just try to put me in my place for coming to their store WELL BEFORE CLOSING & spending over $300?! Needless to say the rest of the interaction was poor & I left feeling like I had done something wrong or inconvenienced them for doing my shopping at night. Again, this is one of several lousy experiences. They frequently run out of bags & put customers in a really awkward spot, complaining about the lack of bags & attempting to pack as many groceries into a bag as possible. And my final anti-customer gripe, there are no cart returns in the parking lot! What?! Again, a first for me & not a practice I see in place at any other local giants. Bottom line - if you choose to shop here, be prepared to bag your own groceries (if they have bags), load your own groceries & return your cart, all the way back up to the front of the store. All while paying much more than many local competitors. Please help this store with treating their customers better, Giant! Sincerely, A lifetime Giant Shopper about to Jump Ship

I wish I could give it zero stars. * I went to the deli about an hour before the deli closed, but no one was there. We waited for 12 minutes before we left. * None of the registers were open even though there were workers there, and the self checkout line was really long.

This Giant has become my favorite in the area. It's compact and beautifully renovated. Staff are very efficient and helpful, some are more than the others but that's okay. The newly set up self service area is big and conveniently located closest to the exit. The seafood department has been improved but unfortunately I don't see too many customers purchasing seafood at this location yet. Giants rotisserie chicken has no flavor and kind of tasteless. And it is too well cooked and dry. Overall I like this Giant a lot.

I use this place fairly regularly when I forget to purchase things on online. The prices are good and the selection is also pretty good. Customer service is absolutely terrible though. Almost every time I go I see some act of unprofessionalism wether it be associates arguing in front of customers or associates disrespecting customers themselves. Like a normal person I tend to use self checkout when it's available. There was some sort of issue with the conveyor belt that required the cashier to come assist me. I waited a couple of minutes before I considered going to another line but figured: Let's just see how long this takes. 7 minutes. To come and put in their code into the machine.

This is so different then other Giant Food stores. All checkouts are Self Checkout. So even with a large basket of food, you have to scan and bag your own groceries, while staff sits around and laughs. Food gets damaged while it piles up on conveyor belt. And when Staff did help, she scanned my soda and put it on the belt while it was full, ruining my fresh bread! I will go somewhere to enjoy food shopping.

This store has several rude employees. Specifically the cashiers. I will never go back to this store .i go to all the different grocery stores in northern va and this giant is the worst. I think the employees are unfriendly because they are union and believe they can't be reprimanded. I love Wegmans and Harris teeter and Whole Foods. Their employees are happy and helpful. Sorry Giant food , your just not worth our time.

Poor customer service, overpriced low quality fruits, veggies and meats, and they mostly have self check out so you can do their jobs for them. Giant as a whole has gone way down hill which is sad. They used to be my favorite! I won't be back to this one, especially. Lidl or Aldi is Heaven compared to this.

If I could give a zero I would. If you're a female be very aware that a certain member of the male management staff there allegedly and routinely sexually harass's the female staff. He may not discriminate and may also sexually harass customers. He will stand inappropriately close (I've seen him do this) and may whisper in your ear or make silly, what he probably believes to be flirting comments about your beauty and that is why men come to the store. This is the Centreville, VA store. There website has no place for complaints, nor does their phone call tree which is incredibly detailed and boring otherwise. My fiancé is an immigrant from a country where they will not make complaints against the boss. No matter what I tell her she refuses. If it gets worse she said she will ask to switch stores.
