Initial Impression: Two extremely rude female workers (employees or owners, we do not know). In my opinion, it's gone downhill. What's made the difference? Did the ownership change? We drove approximately 30 minutes specifically to visit this store, but their hours had changed and they were closing in ten minutes. No "welcome" from them, only a shout that they were closing and they needed to lock "the door"! Then, both of them totally ignored my daughter and as we stood at the ice cream counter. It appeared obvious they wanted nothing to do for the next ten minutes, as they continued to ignore us. For my daughterand I, it was a very disappointing experience. Not friendly like it used to be and we will not be back. However, we were extremely satisfied with Tammie's Place, just down the block.

Hours are much shorter than what it says on here. Drove an hour here and arrived at 4pm but it's closed (at 3pm). Looking like it is pretty empty except for a few dining tables and greeting cards. Didn't see a pharmacy or other goods being sold there?

Ransone's Drug Store: Great group of people. They are always willing to go the extra miles to help you get the medicine you need. If they don't have it in stock they will get it for you.

Had lunch here and it was great. Home-made soup, and nice BLT. A real plus is that they had 100% whole wheat bread, which a lot of restaurants don't. Staff is friendly and efficient. Looking forward to getting back.

We have been here for lunch several times while driving on the Blue Ridge Parkway. It has always been worth the trip down into Buchanan to enjoy lunch here. I always go with the burger and homemade chips and have never been disappointed. My wife and friends this time ordered a Reuben, a grilled cheese with bacon and another hamburger. The service was friendly, the food was good and the price reasonable. We love the quaint, old-fashion style of the restaurant, makes us think of simpler times gone by.

A gem of a place that takes you back to a simpler time in life. As you sit inside you can imagine hot rods riding by, girls in poodle skirts, and slick backed hair on the guys. The food is good and the service is great. We try to stop by there any time that we are in the area.

Stopped in here on our annual trek down I-81. Place seemed to be under new ownership again as the menu had changed. There were a LOT less menu options compared to the old menu. On the upside, the place seemed cleaner and brighter with the exception of the restroom (could have been cleaner). They had new tables in the center of the restaurant too. We ordered 2 burgers, fries, a strawberry shake and 2 kids pancakes with chocolate syrup (since no chocolate chips). Total for our meal was $26.44.Our entrees were out within 15 minutes or so. Not super fast, but not terribly slow. Burgers were good, but not real juicy. Fries were just OK. Shake was excellent. Kids enjoyed the pancakes. They were sweet and almost tasted like funnel cake. Overall, good food in a neat old soda fountain style restaurant with a tiny pharmacy. They also have a small produce stand in the front of the building. Our waitress was very friendly. I would stop here again if passing through.

This was a lucky find. We had the best Rueben ever. The bread was a fancy rye and the chef cooked it to perfection. I think the bread set it apart from other Rueben's. Another special touch you did not have to settle for French Fries you have several choices.

Ransone's pharmacy is a perfect hometown pharmacy with an exceptional staff. I'm kinda confused as to why the other reviews are talking about food when the restaurant is separate from the pharmacy.

Awesome service!!!! Great good ole Drug Store food. Best burgers we've had in a while (real meat, you know?)!! Super great stop. Walk a block over to the Swinging Bridge after lunch to check it out.

Great selection of food and plenty of atmosphere. Come here for a smiling face and good southern class. The food here is excellent and very fairly priced. The service here is excellent and they are always smiling! I never go to Buchanan without eating here at The Fountain!

Best of friendly service -- sweet or unsweet -- truly memorable onion rings. Lots of parking, too!
