Ron created a beautiful maple kitchen table for me, and my family and I couldn’t be happier with the result. It is truly a work of art. I gave Ron some pictures and ideas of what I wanted, and he executed it perfectly. He asked for our input throughout the process, including ensuring the stain was the exact color we wanted. His work is meticulous. I can’t recommend Ron and his work product highly enough.Services: Table construction & installation

I brought a table to Ron for refinishing. The table was designed by my mom over 65 years ago and had survived numerous moves and much use over the years. It was sorely in need of help. Ron carefully examined the table and its condition. He showed me all the stains available. I liked several of the choices and Ron graciously mixed up my choices and applied them to wood in his workshop so I could see how they looked. Ron was gracious with his time and advice. After I left, I fully expected to hear from Ron only when my table was ready to be picked up. Ron not only emailed updates on the progress of the project throughout the entire refinishing process, he sent pictures and explanations as well. He is a true professional with an incredible gift. Ron is an amazing woodworker, craftsman, and artisan. He restored my table and gave it new life. It is once again a beautiful heirloom to be cherished.Services: Restoration

Ron Light of Lighthouse Woodworking is our go-to furniture designer and refinisher. We’ve bought beautifully designed new furniture from him, used him for refinishing multiple pieces of inherited midcentury furniture, and with our latest project collaborated with him for designing a unique walk-around headboard. The headboard is exquisite and as Ron says is a statement piece. Working with Ron is a joy: He’s conscientious, innovative, and inventive. He listens well and delivers a product that exceeds requirements. You can’t go wrong to hire Lighthouse Woodworking.Services: Furniture repairs

Ron restored two antique table tops for me. These were tables that were old when my mother bought them and refinished them 65 years ago. Ron handled them with care and restored them so they will be enjoyed by my family for another 65 years.Services: Restoration

Lighthouse woodworking produced a gorgeous countertop and shelf for our house. The owner consulted with us on our vision and we chose one piece of wood for both products. He crafted the components with precision and it looks spectacular! I would recommend Lighthouse Woodworking to anyone looking for unique wood products including tables, benches, shelves, countertops, etc.

Ron built us a beautifully crafted dining room table. He was so easy to work with, explaining each step of the process as we were clueless! Considering the excellent craftsmanship, the price was extremely reasonable. He also, went "above and beyond" to deliver our table before Christmas so we could host our family in our new home. I am already contemplating our next piece of furniture! On top of that, Ron and his wife are truly great people!

We had an old round 2-tier teakwood coffee table that belonged to my parents and sat in our basement for years. Ron sanded, polished and stained and brought out the original design in the teak wood. It is now in our living room, and we're so glad it was restored so beautifully. We also had Ron repair an antique Norwegian "bucket" (for lack of the correct term) from 1843. It was falling apart, and he repaired it so that it holds together as it did originally. Ron said it's the oldest piece he's worked on and we're glad he did!Ron does excellent work and is willing to tackle any job! We are really pleased to have these pieces restored and displayed in our home.Services: Antiquing

Ron at Lighthouse Woodworking built our custom cherry pantry from lumber that was cut from our family's farm in Highland County, VA. The boards sat in a barn for over 25 years. The pantry came out beautifully. We are delighted with the craftsmanship and quality of construction. It will be an heirloom for years to come. Ron is very professional but friendly and easy to work with.Service: Cabinets

We commissioned Ron to create a custom piece of cabinetry for our church. The work was exquisite: beautiful walnut wood, precision workmanship, wonderful finish. The piece was so well received that we commissioned another custom piece a year later and the work was every bit as good, once again. Ron took a few basic sketches, worked with us to be sure he know what the church needed, and then he executed it flawlessly. Excellent value for money. Wonderful customer service: kept us informed every step of the way. We will be back for more!Service: Custom furniture

Several months ago we moved to the Winchester VA area to build a new home in which to retire. Our exploration for local products (Eat Fresh, Eat Local) landed us in the Mt. Airy Market one day, where in addition to local produce and meats we found an assortment of handmade wood crafts: cutting boards, cheese boards, trivets etc. They were beautiful, and upon noting our admiration to the market’s proprietor he said “oh, those are made by a guy who lives almost next door to here.”We planned to have new furniture in our retirement house, and our vision for the master bedroom entailed hardwood pieces from one of the numerous New England woodworking artisans. But we thought: what if this “guy who lives almost next door” could do it instead? We preferred to invest ourselves in our new community if possible. A quick look at his website included photos of beautiful handmade hardwood furniture, so we contacted Ron Light of Lighthouse Woodworking, sending an email describing our interest, and soon we had a response inviting us to his shop and asking for some examples of what we were looking for.Our initial visit and conversation were enlightening – Ron showed us his workshop and upstairs show room, described how he sourced his wood, showed us details of grain and color variations in his art, and asked us questions along the way. He asked for more specific details on what we were looking for, and he promised to put together a proposal with sketches and pricing for us to review. We left feeling very excited about the prospect of having him create our new furniture. We returned to Ron’s shop to review his thorough and reasonable proposal. Ron’s interpretation of our described vision was spot on – there were a few details to sort out but he assured us we would be consulted, look at mock-ups and make approvals before any final work was committed. As the design and our relationship grew, we were inspired that this artisan wasn’t just making furniture, he was creating “our” furniture, and his goal was to deliver precisely what we were looking for.Ron sent progress photos (which were thrilling to see) and kept us informed every step of the way. It was clear that our vision was being fulfilled. At long last we moved into our new home, and the next day Ron arrived with our new bedroom furniture. Each piece was assembled, Ron tested every screw and drawer until everything worked to his satisfaction (he actually returned a few days later to replace a few screws he wasn’t 100% confident in). We were absolutely thrilled – and a month later we are still thrilled.Everyone who walks into the master suite stops and says “wow.” The bed, side tables, dresser and bookcases are stunning. The cherry wood gleams and glows, the lines of the design are clean, harmonious and esthetically pleasing. We couldn’t be happier. The bonus is that we have made friends with Ron and his wife, and we are very much looking forward to our next collaboration.Service: Custom furniture
