Living in a big city like D.C., a “general store” sign gets me every time. After visiting nearby Great Country Farms, my little family stopped by Bluemont General Store. Although it has general store vibes, think of it as more or a corner store with essential goods like soap, spicy sauce, and mac and cheese boxes. The more charming sections are the $1 hardback books, the soup corner, 50 cent candy necklaces, and the local kids books.Service is kind and the space is easy to navigate.

If you remember when general stores stocked what people want to buy and not just stuff with a long shelf life and a high markup, then you’ll love this store as much as I do. It has tons of quirky little snacks and things you don’t see on many shelves anymore. Really hope it doesn’t get replaced by another booze and lotto tickets “convenience” store.

Amazing food— a true general store. Great memories at this place. Amazing pie and fresh soup daily.

Store seems nice, but the review is for the chickens. I bought some laying hens from them. Website says $12 a bird, sign in the door of the store says $16. I had to pay $16, what ever wanted the extra egg supply without the wait. Well three weeks later still no eggs. They need to update their website and not sell laying hens until they are laying. Employees were nice and accommodating, the store is nice too.

Such a community treasure! Walking in is like stepping back in time. It’s favorite place to stop for ice cream on a hot day or a bowl of chili on a cold afternoon.

Cool little general store with a deli counter and basic groceries. They don’t make em like this anymore!

Excellent stopping place for bicyclists. Reading ginger beer is interesting, and the home style oatmeal raisin cookies are first class. The porch gets midday and afternoon shade.

Cute place to stop by but experience was ruined by the silent employees and the warm sandwich from the cooler.

What an oasis in a very rural area. I was riding my bike in this area since the gravel roads around here are fantastic and beautiful. I stopped in here to replenish my water and refuel. They have everything here at this general store, even fresh sandwiches and hot soup. Next time I will come and try the ice cream since it was cold when I visited. I highly recommend stopping in here if you are in the area and in need of a bite or refreshments.

The woman behind the counter today was so so unkind and rude to us today (Saturday, 3pm). I was really bummed out to have that experience because I really like going there.

I stopped by the Bluemont General Store for the first time today on my birthday. I was absolutely disgusted by the fact that 5 innocent chickens was caged in a very small dog cage inside the store. The small cage was obviously designed for a small dog. My husband and I could tell that 5 chickens really want to get out of the cage. They look very suffering, uncomfortable, and hungry. They can't even move because the cage is too small. I felt traumatized as a customer and I won't come back again.I do not support animal cruelty at any kind. I urge the owner of this business to immediate remove those 5 chickens and place them in a proper chicken coop cage. It's not okay to make animals suffer at all.
