We love Fred's silk screens of the Blue Ridge mountains and nearby rivers. Fred and Beth are charming and happy to show you their workshop where hard work transforms inspiration into art.

We have brought our house guests to see shows at the Nichols galleries many times. Fred Nichols has exhibited in Japan and New York and is in collections throughout the US. The soul of Virginia's hidden landscape is captured in his huge watercolors. He also has a good collection of his beautiful silk screen prints in smaller sizes. Those are shown in his fascinating studio "across the tracks" in Barboursville, just a jaunt from Charlottesville. The Annex gallery is Beth Nichols baby. She shows mostly Virginia artists, many of whom are graduates of VCU or are on the VCU faculty; every one of them highly accomplished. The Nichols Galleries is one of those gems you can't believe you've overlooked. We are thrilled with the choices we've made and have our eyes on acquiring more... It's fun to spot a Nichols painting at Martha Jefferson Hospital or in a doctor's office or a friend's home. It's worth a detour, especially as there is excellent dining close at hand which the Nichols can advise you on. Enjoy!
