I know, I know when you see a negative review among all these glowing reviews you say to yourself, "oh this is an outlier or this customer has some problems himself". Trust me this is not the case. It takes time and effort to write this review and my only motive is to possibly spare someone what I had to go through. I was a happy customer years ago when Alex worked at JAC. It actually took me 4 bad experiences and years of being in denial before I came to realize the truth about this place. Number one - I took our CRV with a transmission problem and was told the transmission needed replacement the estimate I recall was about 4 to $5,000.00. I took the car to a private mechanic who fixed the car by replacing a solenoid for $200.00. The car is still running fine now.
Number two. I had the oil changed on our CRV when I got the car home the next morning I notice a large oil stain on my newly cemented car port. Japanese auto care's response "sorry about that". I can understand mistakes are made but their response or lack of it is what bothered me the most about this. It is easy to just say "we are sorry".
Number three - I pick up my car and notice scratches on the door. Japanese auto care's response "sorry about that".
Number four and the last straw. My car needs inspection. I take my car to get an oil change and ask that they look it over and make sure it will pass inspection. Some repairs are done and the car is declared "ready for inspection". When I take it for inspection the inspector immediately notices when looking at the engine that a motor/engine mount is broken! He shows it to me. I call Japanese auto care and your guessed it "we are sorry" and they say they can't look at my car until the following week. I sense they are in no way owning up to the fact that their little "mistake" is causing me a great waste of time and inconvenience. When I attempt to convey this the person (will not say his name) starts yelling at me using the "f word" and says I am talking to him like he is my son and he hopes I don't talk to my family like this. What!? I explain that the reason I am talking loud is that I am in a noisy room (at the inspection gas station) and am wearing a mask and was unsure if he could hear me so am speaking loudly. He does not believe my explanation, so add calling me a liar to his infractions. So you never would believe that someone at a business would go off on you using the "f word" until it happens to you. Ok , ok perhaps the guy was having a bad day (perhaps his favorite sports team lost a game the previous night) and it was a "mistake" but then there would there not be an apology, would there not? Didn't happen. I will not conclude by saying where a customer should take their business. Just read the above for what it is worth and make your own decisions and judgements.

Excellent customer service and very knowledgeable mechanics. I’d trust them any day with my 4runner and would highly recommend them.

I had an extremely unpleasant experience with this business. The management is very unprofessional, and the owner, in particular, is a nightmare to deal with. The owner literally shouts at you if you disagree with anything or even if you question their service. It's completely unacceptable and escalates quickly into a hostile situation. I strongly advise avoiding this place at all costs. Save yourself the headache and take your business elsewhere.

Jackson at Japanese Auto Care was so kind and helpful walking us through our repair needs and options moving forward. The transparency and customer service was the best I've received when servicing my car.

I've been coming here for over 10 years. Prices are reasonable and the customer service is excellent. I used to wish they communicated more but they seemed to have solved that problem about 5 years ago and now its excellent. I would highly recommend them.

I have been taking our cars here since 2003. They kept our Honda Element running for many years with well over 200,000 miles on it. We have taken our Subaru there since 2017. All the folks who work there are professional, friendly and efficient. Most importantly...I trust them. If they tell me our car needs a certain repair, I have no qualms at all. They are responsive and always call before doing the work. Their estimates are spot on. Our next car has to be Japanese because I don't want to go anyplace else.

This place is the best! I've been taking my cars here since 2019 and I've literally never had a bad experience with them, they're always helpful and super nice. They're also the only mechanic that has never made me feel like they're just trying to get money out of me. They take the time to explain issues and prioritize them for safety vs. things that can wait. There are several similarly named shops in Arlington, make sure you're looking at the one on Glebe and Washington. Highly recommend!

Started going here a couple years ago for my oil changes rather than the dealership. The quality of the service is just as good, if not better, and the cost is a fraction of what it is at the dealership. I've never had to deal with any upselling here either, whereas the dealership (and other shops) seem to always be pushing some additional, unneeded service on to you. Would highly recommend this shop!

After having my car serviced here several times I unfortunately have to change my review. I wanted this to work as the shop is convenient for me and they are friendly, but third time is enough. I've had to take my car back twice to get repairs they performed fixed. While the 2nd repairs to initial repairs are covered under warranty, and they graciously fixed the issue, it's rather time consuming to have to keep making appointments for something that should have been taken care of initially. Not to mention potentially dangerous. I get the feeling they are rushing through jobs as there's also been minor details in repairs such as body panel clips not replaced after being removed and other items not buttoned up after a job is complete. I overlooked these things initially and would just order the clips on Amazon and replace them myself as this is much quicker/easier than scheduling another appointment, dropping off and picking up. But this time after a repair, again, didn't seem to remedy the problem as expected, I went to the dealership. There they explained that the part that was replaced was not calibrated correctly. So while the initial replace of the damage part was done, there was no tuning of the electronics of this part. In a rush? Just don't care? Overlooked? At this point it doesn't matter, I gave them a chance, three chances to be exact.

Absolute best mechanic I’ve had to date as a car owner. Very personable customer service, honest diagnoses and prices, and overall excellent car repairs and maintenance. I can say with confidence my car is in better shape while being serviced at Japanese Auto Care than it has ever been since I bought it.

My girlfriend took her car here for a routine oil change. They identified a problem with the water pump and offered to fix it. It was expensive but she agreed. When the car was returned the AC would no longer get cold, only blowing hot air. She took the car in and let them know. They refused to accept it could be related to anything they had done. They said it would be x amount more for them to look at it and fix this new problem. She left frustrated. I took her car to another mechanic and explained the situation. He reached his hand in under the hood and reconnected something Japanese Auto Care failed to connect after fixing the water pump. The AC was blowing cold immediately. This took him LESS THAN 2 MINUTES!!!!DON'T TAKE YOUR CAR TO JAPANESE AUTO. THEY ARE PREDATORY AND UNTRUSTWORTHY.Services: General repairs & maintenance

This used to be a nice place. They are still polite, just charge you triple the prevalent prices. At least this is what they did with my sway bars replacement. I strongly suggest you check the prices elsewhere before you commit.

Outstanding service. The mechanics and technicians give you precise information. They do not intentionally give you misinformed information. I highly recommend.

Where do I even begin? This is the most dishonest shop in the area, and I advise you to avoid it if you don't want to play phone call games with the store manager and get marked up prices on every repair.
I went in to get the rear passager suspension fixed. We agreed on total pricing IF the shocks also needed replacing. At this point, they offered a free oil change and a tricky $100 discount since I brought them the business. I told the store manager (who you'll always find at the front desk and lies in your face at every opportunity and is a master of bait and switch) to do the rest of the service first, and if I don't need the shocks replaced to leave it untouched since I'd save about $180 in parts and $360 in labor (both are marked up as you can see).
Before I picked up the car, he ordered a new pair of shocks and told me it would take a week to have them shipped (This is to lock me in on the shocks service). Since I needed the car as soon as possible, I paid for everything including the shocks without labor, and picked up the car. He then called and told me that I needed to go back and give him $360 more to have the shocks replaced since I already paid for the part (Not because it needed replacing!!). Then I test drove it with the stock shocks, and as expected it was completely fine.
So the next day since I couldn't be there, I sent in a friend to ask for a refund for the shocks. To my surprise, he denied to give the refund since the shocks were a "special order" (really for a Toyota?). In addition, if I didn't go through with the shocks service, he would need to add back the discount he initially offered me for bringing them the business (WHO DOES THAT AFTER THE TRANSACTION IS DONE??). My friend then asked to give us the shocks that I PAID for and again refused and sent my friend home.
Aggravated by the situation, I went in the next day, and as soon as I walked in the “store manager” said "There are your shocks on the floor. We won't be doing business with you anymore". I didn't say a single word, only checked if the parts were genuine, and walked out.
Guess what?? I'll be the one telling everybody to not do business with you! I left out a major sketchy part from the review for your business's sake and because I have some humanity left in me. And PLEASE don't give me that BS response that you've been giving to all the one star reviews saying they got the wrong shop as this is definitely a review for Japanese Auto Care on the corner of Washington Blvd and Glebe Rd in Arlington
