My 16 year old son recently had a very frustrating experience at Gold’s Gym. First, just about every time he use the sauna, he encounters older men who are naked, which is extremely uncomfortable and concerning, especially since there are no signs or policies addressing this issue, and he is a minor.
Additionally, when I just dropped him off to check in at the front desk wearing his Birkenstocks—something he’s done over 50 times without issue—he was abruptly told he couldn’t enter. There were no signs indicating that Birkenstocks were prohibited, making the situation confusing and inconsistent. Overall, the lack of clear policies and consideration for members significantly impacted his experience.
This is starting to feel like a less welcoming gym day by day, and I don’t really feel comfortable sending my son here anymore.

Horrible Management. All summer management a has ignored complaints about the men’s locker being at or above 80 degrees in the morning, warmer inside than outside during the summer. Almost a daily issue and the problem seems to be an undersized unit unable to keep up with the summer. Management has decided to use excuses instead of fixing the problem. Avoid all Gold Gym DC Metro locations since most have some issue

Walked to the gym today at 6:15 am and it was closed. This has happened to
Me before and based on some of these reviewsI’m reading it’s happened a lot. Let it slide a few times but it’s pretty odd that this is a common occurrence for any business. Just gives the impression that no one there really cares about working there. Good gym though when you can get in during the hours it’s open.

I'm a golds member based out of the bailey's crossroad location, so this location is an alternate location for me. Having gone here on and off for about 2 months I feel I have information to weigh in.
Pros: Lots of space, lots of machines, lots of free weights. I love that the location has two floors, with the first floor being dedicated to weights and machines. And the free weights area is quite spacious. Multiple turf areas for stretching and smaller machines are great too. The class areas are spacious and the location offers a number of in person classes throughout the day, almost all of which are well attended and well taught (at least the ones I've attended). Plenty of parking too, which is a necessity for the area: some people will complain that towing is too strict, but that's usually from people who are abusing the gym spaces to frequent other shops. I don't mind the towing, gym goers should have gym parking spaces, period.
Cons: I go to about four different golds locations in the DC area, and this is easily the "warmest" location. AC seems to constantly be on the fritz: I don't mind too much as I actually prefer working out in warmer locales, but be aware. The one warm area I can't abide, however, is the bathroom/locker room. It's almost always unpleasantly warm in there, which is not what you want when you're trying to towel off and cool down. Also, either because of the wiring in the building or the power grid in the area, there are frequent power outages at the building which results in gym closures (indeed, I am aware that there's been 3 closures in the past week alone). I signed up for a 6 am class this morning, 8/1/24, through their app, showed up at 5.45 am, and found a handwritten sign announcing a power outage closure with an anticipated opening at 8 am. I never received any notification through the app or any other type of contact. Given how often these outages occur management MUST set up some sort of list serve or something similar so that gym goers know whether its worth their time to make the trek to the location. The only other option is for gym goers to call before they leave for the gym, which is ludicrous.
Verdict: I'm good with this location as an alternative to my regular location, but if it were my "home" gym I would have serious concerns given the power outages. It's just not sustainable for gym goers to never know whether the gym will even be open when they show up. And, as I stated above, if a warm gym is not your cup of tea be on guard.

Gym never opens on time. They are running late to open every other day, literally. 5am during the week, and 7am on the weekends are when they're listed to open. All too often I show up and there's a crowd of people waiting outside then everyone just leaves 15 or 30 after

Been a member for over 2 years and today I brought my mom who is visiting from out of state to the gym for the first time and was told that i needed to purchase the $20 day pass for her. Meanwhile my husband brought a friend with him recently and had zero problem. Money is not the issue but the inconsistency is what bothers me. The gym has poor gate keeping anyways like I could have just walked right in but jokes on me for being honest and just wanted to work out with my mom for an hour. Canceling my membership now.

Good parking. Some new equipment. Have had trouble with treadmills that don't hold the programmed time or that have speed variances. Have reported but they don't seem to get fixed. Patrons move weights and small exercise devices around and they rarely get moved back. Many daytime patrons spend as much time sitting on the equipment on their phones as they do actually lifting. Men's locker room frequently smells like and is almost as hot as the sauna. It is not overpriced though.

Charged me cancelation fees and the next month's fee. You can only cancel in person, not online, nor on the phone.
They didn't care that I was leaving for the military.

I received conflicting instructions from different employees on how to stop payments after my 1-year contract ends. Here's a summary of the guidance I received:
1. I was told to request cancellation precisely on the contract's expiration date to avoid auto-renewal.
2. I was advised to request cancellation within 30 days before the contract ends.
3. After following the above, I was then informed that cancellation must be requested more than 30 days prior to the contract end date.
4. The latest instruction was to request cancellation on the contract end date, which would trigger a 30-day notice period, consequently incurring additional biweekly payment obligations during those 30 days.
I was informed that this fourth and most recent instruction came directly from the owner and that it's the same guidance they provided to multiple members. This is not only frustrating; it feels like a scam. After spending too much time on this, I went to the Clarendon location and managed to cancel my membership there within minutes, hassle-free. I then wrote an email about my situation to this Gold's Gym and there was no response. I hope this post will help others who were in a similar situation like myself.
Gold's Gym claims itself to be "The Home of the World's Best Training," yet it seems that doesn't extend to training their staff on basic membership policies. I expect them to fix this by providing clear, consistent information to their members on how to cancel memberships without unnecessary complications or additional fees.
Do Better.

Showed up this Saturday at the gym and waited 40 minutes for it to open. A crowd of us were waiting. After the 40 minutes I gave up and left. Not sure when the gym ever opened that day. Please be respectful to the customers that pay to utilize the gym. 7AM on a Saturday is very reasonable to be open.
