I have never written a bad review but idk what just happened. I'll preface that I've been working in pet stores, for rescues, and even in zoos for well over a decade. I know my stuff. Also another young cashier (male) saw this happen on 9/15/23.I went in for some Capstar. Before the re-brand, dog and cat 2-25lb Capstar was kept in one box. Now they have them in separate. It's the same thing.I went up to ask for a box since they're locked. I asked for the cat 2-25 but if it's not there, I'd take the dog 2-25. The cashier (female, short dark hair, wearing a mask) proceeded to make a lot of snarky comments asking if I'm willing to risk my cats and about how flea medication has warnings to not use with the other. I clarified that Capstar is not one of those and it's 11.4mg of nitenpyram in either. I even said I'd pull it up online to show. We went back and forth for a bit. They continued to argue but went to the box to look for the cat one. I found the information on the National Institute of Health site showing it's the same active ingredient and safe for cats and when I leaned over to show them my phone, they straight up screamed and fell back. I said sorry and they said "YEAH COVID". I told them I just wanted to show the page that shows it's the same...I bought my Capstar and left but maybe train your staff about how Capstar differs from topical flea medication so people running rescues aren't forced to pull up the medication websites for things that should be common knowledge to the employees (i had to learn it when I worked in pet stores too). Proof in photos that I know what I'm talking about and don't need to be demeaned by someone who doesn't. Also maybe don't scream at someone and maybe just ask them to take a couple steps back instead?

I went in late yesterday, about thirty minutes before they closed, trying to find a cat carrier as I was on my way to Maryland to adopt a cat that needed to be rescued that night. The guy who helped me I didn't catch his name but he had a long beard. He showed me where everything was but went above and beyond and actually put together a cat carrier for me on the spot so I could have a bigger one for my kitty's long drive home that night from Maryland. Initially, I chose the only fully assembled one but then on my way to the register, I decided I should get one size bigger. Unfortunately, all of the other carriers were not put together. I told him my problem and without me asking him to put it together for me but just to cut the zip ties on it so I could see roughly how big it was, he said no problem, took the carrier into the back and about ten minutes later came out with it all put together for me. I was so happily surprised that he did such an amazing thing for me when I was under time pressure to get on the road and rescue my kitty. By the time he rang me up, the store was closed and he had to manually open the doors for me to get out. A lot of people might not have been so eager to fully assemble a cat carrier for me, let alone right before the close of business. So, THANK YOU SOOOOO much to the gentleman who helped me. I got my kitty and she was SOOO happy to have the extra room for our one-hour car ride back home.

I normally don't give a negative review, but unfortunately I have to this time. This is the third time I have come into this store because my wife said there is a certain dog food that only Petco has. I have a petsmart literally two minutes from my house in Springfield and still make the 15 minute drive to come here. As usual I go to the back of the store to pick up two 40 pound bags of dog food. Every time I came there is not a cart in sight. I could only imagine if my wife went here, what a struggle it would be to bring these bags from the back of the store to the front. I did it anyways with a bad back. When I arrive to the cashiers there is a gentleman in front of me being attended to by a cashier named Amanda on register one. I decide to put the heavy bag on the counter that is completely empty so I don't have to bend back down and aggravate my back. I still had to go back to bring the 2nd bag. Amanda yells to me "sir get back in line"!First of all, I'm not even near you or the customer. I literally placed the bag on an empty register to make it easier for me to bring it to her when I check out, especially when I have two big 40 pound bags of dog food. Unfortunately this was the THIRD time I have visited this store and she has done this to me. I told her about the cart situation, how far I had to bring these two bags with a bad back and that I literally was trying to make it easier for me to transition to the first counter when it was time to pay. She told me because of COVID and people dying you need to stay back there. Ridiculous. I'm fully vaccinated, never even went within 5 feet of her or her customer and she decides to be rude and impolite for the third and final visit that I will be doing to this store.I told her I don't appreciate the attitude every single time I came into the store but the third times the charm. Hear me out Petco. You can do much better than having her be the face of your franchise. She's rude, inconsiderate, and obviously doesn't even care about your customers. She said the reason they don't have carts is because they're $1000 a piece and always get stolen. She even said I could take my business elsewhere. Amanda, I would have loved to never write this review, unfortunately you have been rude to me three different times, and this was the final straw. Petco can hire someone much friendlier, more considerate, and helpful instead of someone trying to be rude to a paying customer who literally has never seen customer service as bad as yours in my lifetime. If I could give zero stars I definitely would. Thanks for the great dog food petco, but this cashier Amanda needs to go. She literally said I can bring my business elsewhere, which I gladly will. No apology, sorry for the misunderstanding, nothing. It's quite pathetic someone can ruin your great day with their demeanor.

If I could give this petco location 0 stars I would. Please avoid taking your pets here for grooming or vaccinations. It's so unsanitary. The groomers do not care about our pets! You make an appointment at a certain time and it usually only takes 30mins for your pet to get bath etc but they make you wait an extra hour because they also take in walk ins that seem to be more important than your set appt time. Also they mistreat the way they cut the pets nail like no! The Vetco doctors and assistant do not help what so ever with information you need. I feel like they are there to just give the vacs and then bye. Please choose another petco they have them everywhere that are way cleaner and more professional! My dog got kennel cough from this location!

My kitten got vaccinated at this location. Dr. Erika Im and her team helped me the first time. Everything went well; Rabies, FVRCP and dewormer were done in just a few minutes, and I'd be happy to leave a 5 star review for her service. I came back for the booster shot a month later. This time, they took the kitten away and told me to stay in the waiting area. I decided to stand outside the service area just to keep an eye on my little fur ball buddy, and I was shocked to see that the doctor opened crate top door, put the crate upside down to shake the kitten out. When that didn't work, she opened the side door, put on a thick glove and dragged the kitten out. She gave the shot to the kitten, and I was not sure if the kitten go the full dose because he jumped off the table. Doctor's assistant had to grab the kitten and threw him back into the crate. When this freak show was over, I got an invoice with a note that said "Fractious behavior. Follow up with a full service vet for future services". Guess what, Dr. Shahinde Frederick, when you abuse an animal the way you did, it's going to be grumpy and uncooperative; if you don't like animals or can't handle more work for the day, don't touch an animal.Pet owners: please keep an eye on your pet when they perform service.

The bathing/grooming here is top notch and really friendly. Our dog was ready on time and they did a great job. One weird thing is if you make an appointments for before the store opens it's a little bit of a pain to get inside. The store has everything you need for your pets and is easier to get to than some of the other locations.

Awesome sales online with a promise to save 15% with pick up over $50. Time and time again I order from here to go pick up, only to find one out of several items I ordered are filled. However, upon pick up of my 1 out of 6 items, I found that others are found throughout the store on the shelf for customers to purchase at full price. If this was a one time occurrence, ok...crap happens. But this is an on-going issue that happens repeatedly. Why am I wasting my time to put in an order that isn't going to be filled (that could be filled) and then have to drive to pick up one item, and find my items are there and then have to repay and then play financial accountant to determine what should be deducted from my account. And to add to it spending more time making sure the correct amounts are deducted and credited back. This is exactly why people are shopping on Amazon. The cashier was helpful in giving me the original price I paid online, after negotiating--but this is ridiculous; and whoever is managing this store needs to get it together. It's great they have a satisfaction guarantee of products--but that's if you're lucky enough to get your order filled. My pets can't try what Petco doesn't fill. I guess it's shame on me this time.

Not sure what has happened with this Petco. It use to be organized, you didn't see boxes piled everywhere to the point you can not walk down the aisle. My dog and I couldn't even get to some items bc boxes and items were everywhere. Someone is going to get hurt. When I first saw this mess I figured it was a one time thing. Each time I come here there are always boxes, just not to the point it was the past few times. Only a couple of the staff that checkout and on the floor are helpful and friendly. Really sad bc they were great people here. Management must have changed. Such s shame bc the grooming department is AWESOME!! If it wasn't for grooming I wouldn't step foot in this store.

Was waiting in line for 30 minutes. There was a lady at the register but she had her back turned to us, she could hear us talking but never acknowledged anyone. We just left without spending our money here

My partner and I began searching the immediate area for an associate after approaching the staff-less checkout area. We found Amanda with another customer, and kindly let her know that we were ready and we'd be waiting upfront in the meantime - no rush at all. Without any tact, and as she points to a leg injury, she crudely tells us "there's only 2 people in this store. I'll be there". That could have been said better, especially since we didn't rush her, but we chose to disregard the flippant tone in her words. When she arrives to her cash register, she haphazardly throws a piece of dog clothing out of her counter space and onto our item like she was tossing trash our way. She then looks at us and crassly says "YOU. Scooch back". Needless to say, we left the store that very moment as we felt incredibly disrespected. Her language, disrespectful tone and demeanor, and complete lack of customer service skills are extremely disappointing to see at a business that we tried to reincorporate into our shopping routine. This experience has solidified our decision to never patronize this store again.

So we got some pets during the course of the pandemic and now have three cats. Needless to say we have made a few visits to Petco, thankfully this one is 1.5 miles from our house. What I really like and an very grateful for at this location is the awesome staff. Everyone has been friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. When our supplies are running low or we have a question about the right product this is the place we visit. This is someplace I look forward to visiting and have shared several photo updates as the kittens grow. Truly thankful for a awesome team.

I was so excited to see that this petco location had the bacon treats shaped like a duck because it's been sold out at multiple locations I've contacted. HOWEVER, I can't believe what I saw when I opened the bag to give my dog a treat. There were multiple bugs inside the bag crawling on the treats. At first I thought I might've mistaken it as an ingredient, but then I saw multiple of them moving. SO DISAPPOINTED AND DISGUSTED.

Will (General Mgr), Chris (Trainer) and the entire Petco Annandale Staff have been extremely accommodating in all matters related to pets, particularly dogs and aquarium fish. We have been faithful customers to this location for almost 2-yrs based on their knowledge, understanding and compassion for their customers' questions and concerns. We have been very satisfied, thus far, and highly recommend this Petco for your canine and aquarium needs.

We got two baby guinea pigs from this location and they came home very sick. One has pneumonia and the other ringworm. While the store has a money back return policy if animals are sick, that doesn't work when the animals are kids' pets, so we've had to foot a big vet bill and hope for the best.
