I had the worst experience at the Fort Hunt Safeway I have ever had in my life. Not a shelf was stocked, and most things were out of stock. I could not get down a single isle, as all were blocked with pallets. There were plenty of workers there, but they all were laughing and chatting, no work or stocking going on. I filled the my cart, with about half the grocery on my list, I was astonished to realize that there were no cashiers. Self Check Out was the only option. I had a bottle of wine in my cart, so i had to wait 10 minutes to get someone to check my id. Once again, worst shopping experinence in my life.

I've read the reviews, our experience has not been the same. We come here, often. The staff are great, everyone is friendly, always super helpful and attentive. I'll give it to you, the prices are a little higher, it's a first world problem living in an affluent community. There is a shoppers 3miles down the road, which I've also been to and it's pretty good. It's worth paying a premium for an awesome convenience, which means the doors are open at 6-AM. 6-AM. We think it's worth it to be able to get what you want and sometimes what you need at 6-AM. Did I mention they open at 6-AM? I also think the staff who probably come in an hour or so before to make it happen, are pretty rad. We have always had great interactions and often find ourselves joking and laughing with them. We know their names, they know who we are and that is what makes this place great. Melissa and the crew are great! The quality is also good, there has rarely been a miss in the prepared foods department, the meat and produce have always been good. I love me some Trader Joe's, the same can be said for their produce sometimes. Everything isn't going to be perfect everywhere. Sure sometimes something is out of stock, it happens in a smaller store with a really popular item (who knew hoagie spread was it?), drive 2 miles to Belleview and the Bigway is right there, easy peasy. Parking is not really an issue either, if it's full, move up to the variety story and walk about 50 feet, you can do eeeeet. Five stars for the total experience

It had been a couple years, since my last visit here. Then again it's probably today what it was in 1971. That's okay though, as it adds some charm factor. My best guess is the yuppies in the area, want to keep it looking retro. On a plus note, they have a good selection. Some of the freshest produce in the area. They also have extremely kind employees. They helped me out today with a large order. For once lines weren't a problem either, which isn't always the case. My beef with Safeway, no it's not just this one, is that their prices can be rather insane. You can save a lot more at other supermarkets. Yet if in the area, this could be a viable choice. Parking is a cinch, and the store is full of selections, plus you'll be able to get out of here with relative ease.

I gave it a 3 because the people who work there are very good. The produce is not great. Some of it is terrible. The fish is horrible and unfrozen very poorly. You have to wonder if this Safeway is the last stop of the produce truck and it gets whats been leftover for the day. The meat in the refrigerated section is ok but not great. The meat behind the "butcher case" that has been tampered with like chicken cordon blue, etc. is terrible. It's a great store if you need a gallon of milk, bread, beer, wine, ice cream, etc. But you would never use this store as your primary source of food. You will have to shop elsewhere for meat, fish and produce.

I love my little neighborhood Safeway! Staff is helpful, service is quick and friendly. Some of the best produce in area grocery stores. Yes, it is small, but the staff packs a lot of products in the available space. Excited about the renovations - understand the produce area will enlarged. Also, I have not experienced a problem with outdated products - and yes, I check.

Disappointing store mainly in the way too common spoiled and out of date products. You need to examine each product since their shelf updates miss a lot.

First of all, the photo on the Ft Hunt Safeway website is not the photo of the Ft Hunt Safeway. I think it is a photo of the one on King Street. Very misleading to say the least. PRO: The only reason I go to Safeway is for the pharmacy. I like the pharmacists there, they are caring and I know they are monitoring my meds and injections that I take. A special thank you to Ms. Nguyen! She is the best and I know she watches out for me! CON: People that don't understand what an express lane. I asked the manager if there was an express lane and she pointed to it. A lady got upset with me because she was way over limit and promptly told me there were only two registers open. Yeah, I see only two registers open, so??? The express lane is for people who have a certain amount of products and don't expect special attention. Get over it lady!

If you're interested in spending a lot of time standing in a queue waiting to pay for the small parcels you picked up, this is the Safeway for you. When there are about 20 people backed up in a queue, that's the time when a supervisor calls for an additional lane to be open besides the two that are already open. And once that additional lane opens, don't think you're moving over there. It's for the people at the end of lanes one and two. And once you arrive at the checkout queue, you will be guaranteed that the clerk will mark a produce item incorrectly, thus charging you more for the item that you want to buy. Make sure to pay close attention. We have stopped going to this Safeway for our weekly shopping needs because of these reasons -- unless in need of one or two items. It doesn't matter what time of day one goes there, there will always be a wait and there is consistently an in accuracy at checkout.

I'll update my review. In the last month, I've brought home $20 in expired ground beef, moldy fruit, and saw a cockroach the size of my pinkie finger run out from under a display. Management alerted every time and no apologies were made. No efforts to clean it up. Fort Hunt, we must demand better!!!! Horrendous. I would give it zero stars if it was an option. Albertson's needs to close this location. I live in Fort Hunt and this is the closest grocery store. It has gone downhill-fast-since I've lived here. It's gotten so bad we now drive 15 minutes to another grocery store when this one is around the corner. Some examples from recent visits- -Lines snaking down aisles, two checkouts open, other employee standing around. -Leaky milk. Expired food on shelves. We got one package of "fresh" pasta with mold on it. -the stench of this place. It hits you from 8 ft away when the door opens. -rotting/overripe fruit. Fruit flies everywhere. -went to open fresh bagel case--gnats/flies IN the case. -lazy manager. Called to ask if they carried a specific baby item. Manager said she checked and they don't. Husband stops by one hour later and there are 6 on the shelf. She obviously didn't look. -high prices. Price wise, it just can't compete with Wegmans. -consistently out of stock on basics, such as green peppers, laundry detergent and peanut butter. The pros: -the butcher is awesome and very helpful. He will cut you something specific if you ask. --I can't think of anything else positive to say. Take your money someplace else. I wish Trader Joe's would take over this space

Since I apparently don't seem to learn from past experience, I give every Safeway I come across a try. Like other Safeway locations, this store is generally overpriced and product selection is limited. I found the pricing a bit wacky here because the bread on the clearance rack was actually more expensive than the freshly-baked French loaves in the front of the store. Also, parking doesn't seem adequate for the store but I've never noticed a major problem. Then again, I'm only an occasional visitor so I've likely not hit this shopping center at a peak time. What saves the store is service. The cashier and front-of-store staff are nice.
