The nation's longest continually operating public art center in a converted industrial space. Opened in 1919 as the U.S. Naval Torpedo Station in Alexandria, the building was repurposed in 1974 as an early example of creative placemaking. The Art Center overlooks the Potomac River in Old Town Alexandria and is the creative engine that drives Northern Virginia’s cultural scene. With more than 165 resident artists in 74 studios on three floors, there is always something new to see and experience. Observe artists at work, ask about their creative processes, learn what inspires them, and discover what inspires you! Shop and bring home original art for your collection. Follow @torpedofactory.
