I read these reviews & take several things in account. Fact or Fiction. How many reviews written. Percentage of 5 to 1 stars. I will go elsewhere for my adoption. Not KSC. There are so many other choices. Animals are euthansized daily. There's no time to save a life.

I remembered when we got here my family was considering on adopting a cat. My mom told them she used to own cats and raised them when she was younger. We also had the good space for a potential cat to roam around in the house. There was a cat (Smoky) from KSC that got along well with my step-grandpa.We were told that they would give us a call but never did. Very unprofessional.

We are so pleased with this place. It went so smooth. The staff are very nice and care about their cats. They helped us make the best match for our cat at home. Thank you KSC! Yall are amazing!

This is one of the premier cat organizations. They place around 380 cats each year. It's refreshing to work with an organization that ensures cats are placed with the right home instead of just any home. Please think of KSC when you think of adopting a cat ? to love.

Had an amazing experience adopting at King Street Cats. I had done my online research, visited cats at a few other locations, and even had my eye on a few cuties at King Street, but going there and talking with the staff as I lounged with kitties made all the difference. The team thoughtfully considered my living situation and existing kitty as well as my love for rescuing senior kitties--or those often overlooked. Ultimately I adopted the most lovable bonded pair-- Milis (The Boss) and Mr. Robinson. Both got off to a rough start in life but thanks to King Street Cats and their amazing foster mom, they now live with me, and I couldn't be happier!

We adopted two wonderful kittens from KSC a year and a half ago and we still donate cash to this wonderful organization of dedicated volunteers. We did some research on the available cats online, went there and played with several different cats both amongst the others and in a private small room. We ended up with bonded brother and sister sibling kittens they had rescued with five other litter mates shortly after they were born. Purrfect ending. Highly recommended.

I am a three time adopter and foster for King Street Cats. After I adopted from them I decided to foster because I felt passionately about the work they do. I also hope to clarify some points from prior reviews based on my experience with them.First, King Street Cats is not only an all volunteer shelter, but they take in cats from surrounding rescues that euthanize. Not only do they help those rescues, but they specifically assist with cats and kittens with medical needs. They literally save those cats lives. Over my time with them I have watched them save so many cats and provide medical care that other shelters could not.Second, to the comments about hoarding because KSC allows some cats to roam free in the shelter. KSC accepts cats as family who come to them and turn out not to be adoptable. That is simply amazing. Other free roaming cats fit into category #1 above, and were saved by KSC. It’s hard to find adopters for adult cats, and allowing them to roam guarantees both constant human contact and the ability to show off their wonderful personalities to everyone who visits KSC. The free roaming nature increases these cats chances for adoption. Associating this with hoarding is quite honestly disgusting.Third, they are all volunteer run. Many of the volunteers have full time jobs. If you want a quicker turnaround time in apps or website updates, please come volunteer and free up time for others! I am sure it would be appreciated. If not, just remember that volunteers (who come 2x day, every day - even holidays) only have so much time.Fourth, they have to be picky. Cats get returned and when that happens it’s highly problematic for a rescue (any rescue, not just KSC). And while they will always want and accept cats back that were adopted from them, they will do everything to minimize that. When you adopt, that spot at the shelter or foster home is quickly filled by a new cat or kitten being saved by KSC. If the adopted cat is returned, the rescue is left scrambling (and this case for EVERY shelter). One of the top reasons pets get returned is because someone ends up in a living situation where pets aren’t allowed. Also you don’t get to test drive a pet (really, it just doesn’t work that way - there are rules around pet ownership, adopting, fostering and surrendering - and they don’t allow you to test drive a pet!)I am truly sorry there are so many disgruntled posts here. I am sorry for the applicants who felt dismissed. But KSC does adopt out about 400 cats and kittens a year. The number one priority of any rescue is and alway should be the animals. I have seen KSC go above and beyond in so many cases, taking in cats that had no other chance. Please think before you post negative things about a rescue due to one bad interaction. Your words, without context, prevent this wonderful organization from doing amazing work to save fragile lives.

KSC is a unique, cat only animal rescue that is completely run by volunteers. They really take to heart finding the right adopters for these special kitties.I have read many reviews on here that state they wouldn't adopt to them and are unfair, etc. It takes a lot of time, effort and love that go into caring for and finding the kitties their forever home, and therefore they have a strict adoption policy. Thank you KSC and volunteers for all you for these special kitties!

Good morning,Thank you for your application to adopt from King Street Cats. Uponreview of your application it was noted that your apartment complexdoes not allow pets, therefore, we will not be able to help you andhope you do not put a pet in jeopardy by adding to your householdwhile in this no pet community.Sincerely,KSCHow unprofessional of you all to assume and discriminate against people because of of where they live. I also noted that i have proof that i am able to have an emotional support animal or two and yet they told me to go to an animal shelter. I believe all the bad reviews are true and stand from on hoping you all get shut down.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS.The previous owner was wonderful, but now it's just a cat mill. They push cats onto people, rush decisions, and do not take the steps necessary to ensure cats are going to good homes. The high reviews are from volunteers, do not trust them. I can't emphasize enough how rude, inconsiderate, and disgusting they are. I was approved to adopt then forced to make a decision - I told them I by no means am going to bring a cat into my house (with another cat) without ensuring their temperament is good. They gave us 15 minutes and then got annoyed with us for taking so long. This place needs to be investigated because I refuse to believe they're following appropriate protocols. Volunteer run, sure, but run by bullies that blatantly insult eager cat parents.Just don't go. This place should be shut down. Donating all my money to other organizations that are true to the core values they publicize. If there's a board, they should force the current president to resign because she's not doing it because she loves cats.

This place was cool to visit, the cats seem sweet, but to be completely honest, I believe this place is a cover for an animal hoarder that gets public donations and volunteers. That’s why it’s so hard to adopt and why they can still run. There are so many crazy stipulations and rules that you must follow in order to get a cat here. They want people to foster more than they adopt! A lot of the 5 star reviews seem to be from people who volunteer here as well. If a person writes a bad review, they’ll have someone write a 5 star one, balance I guess. I remember when I visited last it was packed full with cats, you could barely take a step. I commented on full it was and one of the volunteers said that it was their low season too. I’m sorry, but they’re doing these cats a disservice, they sadly don’t intend on giving many of these cats away, just read a good chunk of the reviews. Oh and now apparently they’re only letting people in Alexandria adopt? And the long list of requirements grows

Amazing all-volunteer shelter that rescues the most challenging cats and kittens! They are so wonderful with all the cats in their care and make sure the cats receive whatever vet care they need. Everyone I've met is so committed to finding the best homes for the cats. They know the personalities of the cats and which ones will do well in various situations - so you can be sure to find the best fit for you. Highly recommend checking them out if you are looking to add a new member to your family.

King Street Cats is a unique shelter in that it is cat-only, free-range, and 100% vounteer-run. I first heard about them at Shirlington's Whiskers & Wags event. This event was mainly catered to dogs but I was happy and surprised to see kittens out and about. I took some information on their shelter and saw them again later at a local pet store. Each weekend they take different cats to different pet store and shops around the area to raise awareness about their shelter. In addition to their "mobile" cat, they have little 'speed-dating' type profiles on all of their cats that are currently at the shelter in a binder that you can flip through. They also have a lot of information on their website and Facebook page. After losing my first cat in January 2016, I visited King Street Cats to talk to the volunteers and see what type of cat would be a good fit for my husband and I. I had my eye on Pickle, a popular striped grey cat, but I saw another cat nearby that pulled at my heart strings. Patrick had been rescued by Baltimore County and when his time was up, transferred to King Street Cats. He was incredibly attentive and playful even though he had just come off the streets and been transferred. We visited him several times over the span of a few weeks during open house hours to form a bond with him and get a feeling of his personality. Once he hopped into our laps and licked our faces, we filed an application for him. A few days later we completed the paperwork and were about to bring him home!Patrick (now Rémy) is now a real part of the family. He helped our hearts heal after losing our first cat to illness suddenly.King Street Cats handled all of his micro-chipping, vaccinations, neutering, and even treated him for some stomach parasites he picked up while on the streets. They are really thorough and care about the cats FIRST and foremost. Finding the perfect match for a kitty is of utmost importance to them. Thank you King Street Cats!

Adopted my last 4 cats from KSC, have fostered multiple times with them, and volunteer there regularly. It is an all volunteer organization. They are choosy about who adopts because they want it to stick. They don't have space for a dog meet and greet so they will refer you to somewhere that can accommodate you. They prioritize the cats over humans, as they should. The cats are well loved and cared for. It can feel like a lot but with over 300 successful adoptions a year, they must be doing something right.

My application was rejected via email because I stated I have a dog whom I’d like the cat to meet before I commit to an adoption. As a current pet owner, I would think a credible shelter would be sympathetic to this prior to finalizing an adoption. My application for this cat wasn’t just denied via email - they also referred me to other places BECAUSE of my desire for the adopted pet to mesh well with the pet I already have. This makes zero sense to me, but best of luck to you all with this logic!
