The best yarn store in the DC Metro area. High quality yarns and the staff is friendly and helpful.

Fibre space is a lovely little yarn store in Old Town Alexandria. The staff are knowledgeable, helpful, and will take time off the register to either answer questions or offer advice. I really appreciate the wealth of classes, workshops, pop ups, and community driven events they offer. I've bought yard multiple times and they've agreed to wind them even when they're full with customers (though you have to wait a bit for your turn). I've also bought classes for my mother who's a knitter and she's really enjoyed them. I haven't yet participated in a "stitch in space" since I live a bit far off but plan to attend one soon.
The one criticism I have would be regarding their space for children. I can see from pictures years ago that this used to be a bright space for kids to play with all the provided toys. Now, it's mostly covered up and filled with boxes and other storage. It's not clear its meant to be for kids and the lovely mural is covered with storage boxes. My kids love coming to this store and the play space occupies them beautifully while I shop. If they could clear out that space and return it to its former glory, it would be the perfect store.

I was so excited to come here. 1hour and 45mins drive. None of the 3 staff greeted me when I entered, talked to me while I looked through the whole store or said a word when I left. Beautiful yarns and terribly poor customer service. No need to return.

I brought my friend who was visiting and knitting while here on vacation. Your shop was just perfect in meeting her needs!

Fibre Space is more than a yarn shop, it's a community. While I love purchasing gifts for the knitters and crocheters in my life, what I love most about the owner, Danielle's store is that it creates a real community through community stitching events on Thursdays and Fridays, classes, pop-up shops and events. I usually purchase online to pick-up in store and the staff is so knowledgeable, friendly, helpful and professional. My purchases are sustainably wrapped and marked with my name. For a non-knitter or crocheter, it is helpful to have a store staffed by artisans who can help pick out the perfect fiber or craft kit or class for your intended giftee. I also find lots of small gifts to send to friends and family far away that are unique and one-of-a-kind. For my bestie and her mom, who are serious knitters, the quality of the natural and bespoke yarn is a big hit for their hats and sweaters. For the past several years, I purchase items for my boys' friends birthdays and class auctions because we need more small businesses like Fibre Space, which create community. One of my goals this fall is to participate in the Stich in Space with my needlepoint or maybe finally learn to knit in a course. The store itself is beautiful with two levels of space, an outdoor area and wonderful murals on Prince Street. As my boys state "there is Ms. Danielle's store" because businesses in Old Town are more than just a place to shop--they are the livelihood of our friends and neighbors and a place to really count on community. Stop in and I'm positive you will find something for yourself or others that you love!

i came for the old town stitch in public day event from the other side of nova. i had a great experience and hardly ever see community events like this hosted these days. the staff were so so sweet, welcoming, and helpful. the shop itself is also gorgeous, perfectly stocked for all your knitting and crochet needs.

Very friendly staff. Even though they were busy, they helped me pick out yarn colors for a beautiful fade. Even wound some yarn for me so I could get started on the new project. I would recommend a visit if you are in the area.

Such high hopes were shattered today. I’ve been planning to go to Fibre Space for a while to buy yarn for a blanket I’m crocheting for my youngest son. When I went in today, there were 3 staff members at the counter gossiping loudly .. I was the only customer in the store and was soundly ignored for about 15 minutes, had to interrupt the gossip at the counter to be waited on and got such a snotty attitude from one of the staff that I think I’ll wait until my next trip up to Maine where I had bought my previous yarns to buy any more. At least in the Maine store, I felt like a treasured customer and not an unwanted disruption of the staff gossip. The only reason for 2 stars is the beautiful yarn available in the store.

Easy access to Metro and close easy parking. Quiet, clean, comfortable shopping experience. Polite, friendly, cheerful staff. Willing to help if needed. Great selection of yarn for every spending budget. Sweet second floor with easy access to knitting and crocheting library.

Fibre Space is a literal wonderland of yarn and fiber crafts. All of the workers are so friendly and helpful. I am a huge dog fan and personally I LOVE to see the shop dogs when they come. Feels like home. Also there is a really sweet nook for children to play in while parents shop and knit. This is definitely the place to go to learn as I’ve absolutely leveled up my knitting considerably since I’ve taken classes. Shout out to Kerry and Jillian and Katie, thanks for everything

The shop is cute but that’s about the only good thing I could say about it. The staff were talking amongst themselves. Nothing important, just chatting. No big deal except I waited almost ten minutes to check out - literally stood there waiting for them to help me at the counter with my items sitting there next to the register. I said ‘excuse me’ twice. One lady looked over at me then went right back to her gossip. It was stunningly impolite for someone working in a retail shop that claims to pride itself in good customer service.Worse than the impolite employees were the dogs. There were two dogs in the store. I had to walk around one of the center aisles because a dog was laying in it. The dog was laying so its bottom was up against some yarn. I didn’t buy a yarn that I saw because it was on the bottom shelf and I didn’t want to pay their rather high prices for something a dog’s butt had been pressed against. Yuck. When I unpacked the yarn I did buy I found short gray dog hair or fur or something stuck to the yarn. I like dogs but not in a store and never in bits stuck to something I plan to make a baby blanket out of.

I can not recommend this shop. The staff is neither friendly nor helpful. You are made to feel that you are bothering them when asking a question . I have been several times and always thought I will try again. Nope done.In response to owner: I wanted to cancel only one class because the instructor had given me the wrong instructions in the previous lesson. I did not request a refund for that lesson. But I thought it truly unfair that I should pay a second $40 to the instructor after the first lesson where she incorrectly pinned and seamed the sleeves of my sweater . I did not berate your staff . The person repeated and repeated your policy and would not allow me to explain the issue of the first lesson. I did not write all this the first time because if you had simply refunded me it would have been settled. I did not want the instructor to feel badly. Mistakes happen. On the other hand, as I wrote above ,I have been in your shop several times, and every time your staff has always been the same. They are not welcoming , seem taxed if asked a question , and in general are rather disinterested in providing assistance. A community listens and understands. As far as this issue is concerned, sometimes a policy does not apply 100% percent of the time. Again, this is the only time I requested a refund from you. Believe me, I will be pleased to not patronize your business in the future .
