Wandering around the Rutland area, I stumbled onto this great farmstand right off of Route 4. Owned by a 7th generation Vermonter and his wife, Mary, who hails from MN, the outside is very unimpressive, but the warmth radiating from her is worth the visit to this establishment. Disappointed with a visit to a competitor farmstand down the road, I was still searching for a couple of herbs in particular. Taking me into the greenhouse in the back, she offered me all the assistance I might need, was enthusiastic in her exchange with me, and answered all my Vermont-related questions regarding the success of the individual plants. I learned that Timberloft also does cut flowers for weddings, and other occasions I would imagine, as they have their own field of flowers. Another find was discovering the handmade aprons and various table linen and other fabric items that she makes for sale. The fabric choices run the gamut from holiday to whimsical. I found an apron that suited me perfectly, that I just had to purchase. Up on the shelves are homemade goodies in jars that I am looking forward to trying in the next couple of months. I'm making this a permanent stop on my Rutland shopping list. They are open late spring through Christmas Eve day.
