Always wonder if a repeat visit will live up to memory. 2021 crowds seemed to encourage the Museum to up the ante. The best was the walk through the woods. Call them fireflies or fairies, but that walk is magical.

The buildings and grounds were very nice. If you enjoy art collections, this is the place for you. We did not enjoy the art collections and were a bit disappointed by that feature.

The Shelburne Museum is a relatively undiscovered gem near Burlington VT. Spread over 40+ acres, it contains an eclectic mix of art, crafts, and other Americana housed in several buildings. Depending on season, it also contains live demonstrations of things like blacksmithing, and baking.
You have to be comfortable walking the grounds (~0.75 mi) to see it all, but it's an easy walk. Had a very nice lunch in their cafe, and enjoyed exploring the steamboat.

The Shelburne Museum, located near Burlington, VT has exhibition buildings scattered over 45 acres. Some of the buildings have been relocated from other parts of the State as well as from other parts of New England & New York. These buildings include houses, barns, a lighthouse, general store and a covered bridge. Also, the steamship Ticonderoga is ensconced on the property. The buildings represent the 18th and 19th centuries, while the ship sailed into the 20th century. The museum, founded in 1947, was funded by the Webb family who were ardent collectors of American folk art. The collection includes a carousel, doll and duck decoy collection, in addition to other implements and artifacts of the period.
A building that has recreated the interior of the Webb family 5th avenue triplex apartment in a home built on the property in their honor and in memoriam. It hosts a fantastic art exhibit that includes Monet, Grandma Moses and other painters in addition to sculptures by Frederick Remington and others. One cannot possibly view the totality of this museum’s offerings in one day. The Shelburne represents the best of what a regional (in fact, any museum) has to offer. I recommend it heartily to you. It is a must see if you are traveling though New England, especially the area around Lake Champlain.

This museum is deceptive. It looks small from the outside but it is large and you can easily spend a day here. The model virus parade is a highlight. Come on a beautiful day as the grounds themselves are wonderful. Great for any age.

Unique museum. Almost like an old town restoration. Plenty to keep kids interested. Great place to visit.

This place is awesome! I did not know what to expect but spent hours walking around, entering building after building. So much information, architecture, and amazing art. Money, Cassatt, Degas, and Rembrandt's just to name a few artists whose work is on display. The docents or people working in the buildings love sharing knowledge and I found all the staff to be quite pleasant. I have been to many museums around the world and this one is top notch and so unique. Worth every penny!

There is a lot to see here for adults and kids. It's helpful that the museum pass is good for two days which may be useful if you're staying in the Burlington area. A great variety of exhibits, from quilting and textiles to paintings by Impressionist masters. The wooden carvings in the circus building were extremely interesting and what kid (of any age) isn't going to appreciate walking around a real live steam paddlewheel ship? The video showing how it was moved two miles from Lake Champlain to the museum grounds is interesting. I was here for nearly four hours and wasn't bored at any time. There is a good amount of walking and the grounds are level though some of the buildings are not handicap-accessible or step free. A "shuttle" cart does the rounds if you need mobility assistance. [Review 17879 overall - 37 in Vermont - round number 1400 of 2022.]

The place is absolutely filthy. There is nothing for kids to do. The employees look haggard. Multiple buildings were closed. Waste of money. Shelburne Farms, on the other hand did not disappoint.

My wife and I spent six hours at the Shelburne yesterday. It's a collection of art and historical museums spread out amongst beautiful grounds. It is held together by the intelligence, open minded curiosity, and ambition of it's founder and it's curators. The label copy in the exhibits is concise and informative with none of the academic pretension of some museums that demand a phd. to understand. From American pioneers with calistoga wagons to Monet's hung in Gilded Age homes this is a museum of America at it's finest. I would like to see the current curators challenge themselves to represent and tell the stories of the people on who's backs America was built.

This museum is absolutely amazing! I have been going since I could walk and it had such a huge part of my childhood. There is something there for everyone to enjoy and I really appreciate it even more now that I am older. If you haven't been I HIGHLY recommend taking the time to walk around to all of the amazing exhibits and really enjoying the beauty of it all.

Don't waste your money. Over half the exhibits are closed bec of "covid". Total waste of money. If you want to have a coffee in a gift shop, this is your place.

We visited on a rainy day and it was the perfect destination! The staff is very helpful, knowledgeable and eager to explain the history and significance of many of the exhibits. The expansive grounds are lovely and enjoyable to walk. The different exhibition buildings interesting and so much more. Peruse the website and see all the reasons to visit! We spent about 4 hours including lunch at the cafe. All safety recommendations re: covid are in place.

Having heard so many positive comments we had to visit and see for ourselves. Masks required indoors at any exhibitions. Staff wore masks and were so pleasant and friendly. Kudos to a greeter named Bonnie. What a lovely woman. The Museum has a gem. We loved the grounds and the enthusiasm of the staff at each exhibit. From an old time ferry boat, lighthouse, merry go round. Circus horses and beautiful woodwork, a round barn and artwork from a NYC home, wow ! Such variety and so interesting. Even a train station.. There's a museum store with all kinds of goodies, a yummy Cafe with homemade chili and a shuttle to ride from one place to another. We really loved the place and all the gorgeous flowers/gardens all around us. We had a wonderful visit and definitely want to plan a return visit to see current exhibitions. Thanks to all the staff who made our day so memorable.
