I participated in one of Ian's training programs and was incredibly happy with the results. Meeting 1-on-1 with Ian in his space was beyond helpful and allowed me to practice specific scenarios with my dog. There were also a ton of resources/videos/articles made available to program participants that helped immensely. I highly recommend Ian and his team!

Great daycare and boarding facility, the day is structured to promote calm behavior among the dogs which is fantastic. It is a clean facility and everyone who I’ve met who works here is thoughtful and good at their job. It is on the expensive side and my dog would sometimes come home with pent up energy. I did private training with Ian, I don’t think he is the right trainer for dogs with anxiety or fear based behavioral issues. I wish he recognized this and referred me to another trainer sooner. There was little progress and he wasn’t able to make different suggestions to help meet my dog where he was at. We did some exposure to triggers that my dog reacted to, and he was over-threshold the whole time which is counter-productive. I found a trainer that specializes in fear and anxiety behavior issues and we have made a lot of progress. Looking back, it’s clear this isn’t Ian’s area of expertise. Ian is a great trainer for more obedience type behavior issues and dog-dog issues. So if your dog is like mine and has a host of issues that seem like they may be anxiety or fear based, do your research and find the right trainer to help you and your pup.

I should have written this review long ago but after a couple recent experiences with my dog Brewster I realized how important it was that I recommend Ian Grant and his amazing team. Our 1 year old, 90 lbs shepherd has been coming to our son's soccer games, hitting the local hiking trails where we frequently run into off leash "their friendly!" dogs, and was just able to sit politely at an outdoor restaurant with bikers, pedestrians, and other dogs...thank you Ian snd staff!!! Brewster attended puppy class with trainer Matt and goes to daycare once a week and it has really set him up for success. On top of that...Ian has a ton of other resources including his podcasts (which are soooooo helpful), youtube videos, and the Canine Cooperative. It has made living with our three dogs a pleasure and helped me to feel more confident in a variety of situations--on leash dog greetings to name just one! Do yourself, your family, and your dog a favor and reach out to them. ?

I was given Vermont Dog Trainer's number through my vet because we were out of choices for my amazing Zoey. I was facing having to rehome her for the safety of my other dogs and people. I was skeptical when I set up the interview for Zoey to stay for a 3 week Board and Train but I wasnt ready to give up on my baby. The first day Zoey met Ian My husband could barely control her. She was lunging and ready to bite Ian. I couldn't walk Zoey because she was so powerful I couldn't handle her. She was temperamental, hyper, quick to lunge and attack. I Dropped her off at Vermont Dog Trainer and said goodbye to her for 3 weeks. I was a mess but Ian made sure to send me pictures and updates on her throughout the day. He even sent me videos of her progress sometimes multiple times a day. The transformation in Zoey each day was amazing. She was walking through a whole pack of dogs and wasn't even trying to attack any of them! She was going on pack walks and even letting Ian do belly rubs on her. I watched her lay on her bed and watch the other dogs and wait to take turns with them. He even was able to have her approach someone she didn't know and by the end of that lesson she wasn't barking or lunging at him at all!! He put her on a feeding schedule and gave her a lot structure and routine. He taught us how to walk her properly and recognize Zoey's stressors. He followed up with us multiple times after she came home and we are now able to be on an as needed basis. Ian has even helped us with our other dogs. Thanks to Ian and his Crew I have my baby back and she is happy. She now plays with our other dogs and even snuggles with the puppy on occasion. We still have a lot of work to keep up with for Zoey but it is all worth it and knowing that Ian and his Crew is there for whatever we need is amazing!! Zoey went from unwalkable, confrontational, aggressive, hard to handle to loving going on walks with me, lovable, not aggressive and a whole lot calmer than she has ever been. Thank you guys for everything that you have done for our baby. We are forever grateful ❤️

We can't say enough about the job that Ian and the crew at Vermont Dog Trainer did for our boy Fenway. We first discovered Ian through Facebook and after following/stalking him online for quite a few months we decided to call and get a better idea of what the 3 week board and train would entail. After that conversation we decided to sign Fenway up and dropped him off several weeks later to help with his impulse control and socialization. While we were not able to visit Fenway during those three weeks, frequent updates via Facebook helped with our separation anxiety. We were able to track his progress and see the work being done by Ian and his team. When we were finally able to pick Fenway up Ian was very thorough about the techniques used during the board and train and didn't beat around the bush with respect to things we were doing that could hinder Fenway's progress. One of the greatest things about the program is the support provided to us dog parents once the training is complete. Most programs simply end after you pickup your pup but with Ian's program there are several follow up appointments and other tools such as the online library of materials/videos/podcasts that help you continue to build on the foundation that was laid during the board and train. In closing, we would highly recommend this program to anyone who has some things that they would like to work on with their pup. Ian was extremely professional and really focuses in on what is going to work for you and your dog. Ian will customize the program based on what you want to accomplish. It is not a cookie-cutter/one size fits all program. One thing to note with this program (and any other training) is that the overall success really depends on you. Ian helps lay the foundation and teach you the skills to be successful. The rest is up to you!

Ian and crew are the best there is. They are welcoming, understanding, and knowledgeable when it comes to anything dog related. They are incredibly professional and seek to help you and your dog out at any possible opportunity. There's a reason so many people in Vermont recommend them.

I wasn’t going to write this review, but my conscience won’t let me not write it. Be careful of this place. I paid thousands of dollars for socialization and I did not get it. My dog exhibited signs of severe stress going to and coming home from this place. When I first went there, I was shamed for giving my dog treats, shamed for talking to my dog too much, shamed for not feeding the correct food, shamed for not making my dog fast on Sundays, and made to feel there was something wrong with my dog for not fitting into their narrow idea of what a dog should be. I think my dog was pretty much warehoused up there and ignored. The behaviors they tell me she had up there are what she has previously exhibited only in extreme stress. Also, to my horror, they now have a podcast out stating how their previous ways of training, which they used on my dog, are abusive. I have several friends who have left this place for the same reasons. So be careful. I am sure they are great and successful with some dogs, but now they seem to be more about cranking out podcasts and videos. Make sure they are taking time to take care of your dog. And as good as they think they are, I replaced them in less than 48 hours and my dog is much happier, and showing signs of being much more socialized.

I hired Ian as a consultant in July, of 2019, to come to Ohio to work with my new staff, at my facility that I had recently opened. I have been training dogs for over 6 years, and boarding dogs for 2 years, and when I finally accomplished opening up my boarding, training, daycare, grooming and classes facility in the spring of 2019, I knew Ian could bring his expertise and working knowledge to my new staff about how to run a safe daycare for dogs.

Ian and his staff have helped our 7 month pup so much. He goes 3 days a week for daycare. We started going un March and so far we have seen a huge difference in our pups behavior at home. He is much calmer and doesnt get into as much trouble at home. Serena has also been a huge help for us as we are first time dog owners and have no CLUE about effective training. Highly recommend them for daycare!
