Friendly, welcoming staff especially in the Tavern at breakfast. Room was clean but wasted space without sitting area set up. Mini fridge. Bathroom small without storage space. Bathroom sink area needs maintenance, peeling paint. Very disappointed with condition of the pool. Obvious that it has been neglected. Areas of loose gravel on the floor which caused an abrasion on my foot. 1st day we went to pool at 7am, NO towels and no response when we called front desk. The following days the towels were well stocked. The womens locker room needs maintenance and updating.
Beautiful area but in desperate need of attention. This was the main building which I was told was most recently renovated. Disappointing.

The Essex is absolutely lovely, and the service was impeccable. We stayed just one night to attend an event, but wished we could have stayed longer.
We live just a couple hours away, and will definitely be back next time we need a getaway!
Rooms: Comfortable, attractive, whimsical!
Food and drinks: Lovely on-site dining.

We got married at The Essex in September and it was a dream. Everything is top notch here - the venue, the friendly and extremely helpful staff, the food including on-site restaurants, access to amenities, close proximity to Burlington, etc. The staff did everything to make our weekend and guests’ stays special, even when we had to change to our rain plan. Understandably, our guests are still raving about their experience at The Essex. We can’t thank everyone enough for helping to make our wedding weekend so great and running so smoothly, especially Annelise who was our coordinator. We can’t wait for future stays at The Essex!

The space of the room was great. Kitchen living room bedroom big bathroom with huge whirlpool bath and separate shower stall. Not very modern. Small Gas fireplace that conveniently worked on a one hour timer. What stands out though was how uncomfortable the living room furniture was. Beat up two seat sofa w no pillow.s. Hard wood rocking chair. Queen size bed not comfortable. The bar lounge food and service were acceptable. Not sure that a hotel just off the main highway w no bellman qualifies as a resort. Gym was ok. Would not go back unless snowstorm emergency

A dream come true. Heaven.
Noteworthy details: Oh my word! The whirlpool is truly the most marvelous invention since the printing press and I think TJ is some kind of angel from Heaven for booking this room for me. When I arrived at the Inn my back and spine pain was totally out of control and by using the jets and the neck rest I was quickly able to bring my pain down to a much more manageable level. I love this place and this is where all of my healthcare dollars are going. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

We enjoyed our stay at the inn, friendly service and clean spaces. We stayed for a few days and our room was cleaned daily with fresh towels. Some of the spaces showed some age, and peeling paint. The spa and restaurant on site were a treat!
Rooms: Our room was spacious and well stocked.
Walkability: We walked to nearby shopping and got coffee, and strolled through an art gallery.
Food and drinks: We ate at the Lazy Goat on campus a few times and also got pastries at the front desk cafe.

Stayed here 1st week of October. Nice hotel also known as the culinary resort. If you want to catch the peak foliage this is the time to be here. Close to Westbury/Stowe, can visit the Cold Hollow Cider Mill, Ben and Jerry’s …. Drove to belvidere region and the foliage was incredible.

Enjoyed my stay! The room was comfortable, and the daily service was appreciated. Restaurants were very good - the Tavern offered variety and tasty options with excellent service, and the Junction exceeded my expectations with Chef Ban and Robert preparing a delectable dish that ranks near the top of my culinary experiences around the world. There was an issue with my room that Ben quickly resolved. And my massage at the on-premises Spa was excellent. One suggestion is to dedicate someone to help plan the Vermonting experience.

Rooms: Very nice , cozy, Romantic setting.
Food and drinks: The food at the Tavern in the main building is delicious a must try. Beautiful relaxing outdoor setting with live music. Nightly smores as well at the outdoor fire place at the main building

Magnificent venue for our son’s wedding reception and rehearsal dinner. I highly recommend The Essex. The personnel were all experts in customer service. Definitely will return for vacation.
