Excellent store. Large selection. If you go browsing you will easily find records you want to buy.

I don't understand the comments saying the owner is rude, I came in and he was very helpful - let me keep my backpack behind the counter while I browsed, let me look around for awhile, gave me recommendations and helped me find a portable casette player that I was looking for. The place has a huge collection of records, all different genres, lots of record players too.

Quality selection of records. Most in near mint to mint condition. The gentleman who owns the store is very condescending and unwilling to help customers.

Inherited a Sanyo GXT255 from my grandfather after he passed. I had grown up listening to records on this machine with him and have a lot of fond memories that are brought back when using this machine. It has a lot of sentimental value to me and when it started playing a bit slow and I brought it Speaking Volumes for a tune up. I was hopeful but knew that the machine was old and was unsure of how much they would be able to fixed. Upon picking it up, it sounded and functioned great! I was so excited and very pleased with the work and communication throughout the process (a week or two for the whole thing). I had been using it pretty often for weeks after when it began to slow down again as old machines tend to do. Brought it in to see what could be done, and it was corrected and NO CHARGE for the second round. The tech even showed me how to adjust it on my own if I ever needed to. 5 Stars, great customer service and a great experience. Will certainly be bringing my business back here and highly recommend!

Great selection of vinyl and very knowledgeable staff. A wee bit cluttered so set aside some time to browse.

I LOVE Speaking Volumes. It's somewhere I have to avoid walking by sometimes just in case I can't help going in there and buying more books. The staff are wonderful people! They work hard to get every genre and category possible to the crowded shelves. The diversity of the book collection impresses me every time I visit. Some are surprisingly recent books. Most are well-preserved vintage books in either paperback or hardback. It's a readers' paradise. Definitely a place to go to if you love books.

Could be a great store, but the surly owner and the ridiculous overpricing ruins it. I only go in there as a game..see if I can get out without being ripped-off or lectured.

Went in for help with replacing a needle. No one was in there when I got there, and when he finally appeared acted as if I was wasting his time. The only "help" I got was to look it up online. Terrible customer service.

would give zero stars if possible... review for the repair service the shop offers. was quoted $50 to diagnose a faulty component that was perhaps barely worth that... not knowing where to begin with a diy fix i figured for $50 wth id love to know what happened to the equipment that had been working previously. returned in the allotted week and a half or so... was provided a bill for a $200 repair? i asked why was my equipment repaired when i clearly stated i only wanted it evaluated and agreed only to $50 for that. the owner was ridiculously incredulous couldn't have cared less just insisting i owed them $150 more because the repair was already done! ha... the repair they charged $150 for... included no new or replaced parts just according to the tech some solder work... literally robbery... and the pricing on vintage equipment is dreadful... and if this is how they back it up with service like that... run... have no idea how they even keep the lights turned on...

Speaking Volumes is my favorite spot for used books & vinyl. Until recently I had only been to the bookstore location next to Myer's Bagels, which I visit quite frequently. I always leave with a stack of books (completing my LOTR collection with a matching set, more recent memoirs, historical fiction, etc), they've got it all, and in a quirky little spot with super tight bookshelves and stacks of books on every possible surface. It's awesome. I've been wanting to pull the trigger on a vinyl setup for years and finally visited the vinyl location of Speaking Volumes (literally directly across the street), and met the owner (Nortbert I think?). He is amazing. Seriously. Just an absolute library of knowledge and was super genuine and helpful for a newbie like me. He set me up with an Akai AP-B20 turntable and a Denon PMA-520. We hooked everything up in the store and gave it a run. He also gave me a record cleaning kit and Cat Stevens' Teaser and the Firecat on the house. Since getting my setup, I've visited some of the other record shops in the area (Pure Pop, Burlington, Autumn Records). They're all great and have different vibes / advantages but Speaking Volumes is definitely my favorite.

Scored a fantastic poster from their bookshop location for my boyfriends birthday. Not only did he love the poster but the owner was super helpful opening up the store when it was closed for me to do a last minute buy! Definitely recommend checking them out if you're in town.
