The place is the best but before I say anything good here's what I have cons about; one time there was open rec in the gymnasium and when I was minding my own business doing a scrimmage with others we got shut down because apparently open rec for basketball got canceled without my acknowledgment and ruined my day. The basketballs definitely need an upgrade as most are flat or have no grip, sometimes theres not enough balls for everyone. And this one is more personal but when I play the hoops in the middle and not the sides are almost always not down and I can't use it. Now the good parts about this place is I love how modern it is, nothing is really wrong about it, when I go upstairs to the gym there's enough space to use equipment even if it's packed. There isnt much to say about the place when it comes to pros because it's kind of hard to explain the pros. Just when you experience it you'll understan.

Excellent facility and staff! You can tell that they really care about serving the public with a focus on health and wellness. It is much more than a gym, with a welcoming, refreshing integration of community support and physical activity for diverse people of all levels of fitness. The pool is well-lit and excellent for lap swimming throughout the year. Group fitness classes are well-run by enthusiastic, knowledgeable instructors. I highly recommend this YMCA.

I love this Y!. Not only does it have state of the art equipment, excellent class instructors for yoga, body blast, pilates,.... but it is also a welcoming place for EVERYONE.

A really great facility. Clean, state of the art equipment. The best gym I've been in. I don't know why people complain about parking. It is a 10 minute walk to two massive church street garages and it is on a bus route. Maybe the people complaining don't know that they can park in a garage and walk ten minutes.

Cleanest, most up-to-date Y I've ever been to. There's a variety of equipment, a pool with a sauna, three large studios that are almost never busy, and a b-ball court. It's also a very friendly vibe and pulls in one of the most diverse crowds I've seen in Burlington. With regards to some of the complaints in the other reviews: yes, it can get busy particularly when UVM is in session, but honestly I haven't had to wait more than 5 minutes for a piece of equipment more than a handful of times in the year and a half I've been going, and when I have there's plenty of mobility/stretching/accessory equipment to keep me occupied until, say, a bench frees up. And yes, there isn't a ton of parking right by the door but there's plenty of street parking within a block or two. At the end of the day, there aren't any other gyms in Burlington that provide the amount of variety, cleanliness, and friendly community that the Y does - I hardly think limited parking and five minutes added to a workout are dealbreaking cons when weighed against those pros.

I rarely visit the place due to the parking situation. Despite this, I maintain a membership because my family enjoys family swim time, although it's the only time we go. To ensure we're on time, we have to arrive at least 30 minutes early to allow for parking and avoid any delays.

This place is a joke. A place where you can’t do heavy deadlifts is not something I called a gym, constant argue and discussion from the PTs working there when I did deadlifts that it’s too loud since they have some kind of “no drop” policy. (I never dropped the weight btw, I put it back gentle) but of course it will be some sound when you lift 400 pounds from the ground. If you can’t handle that then don’t call yourself a gym! This was a place for “families” they told me, so I am not a part of a family or what? Sad because they had platforms for deadlifts but you are not allowed to do them unless it’s super light weight that makes no sound ?♂️That’s fine but then inform that before signing up people. At least the owner was friendly and gave me my joining fee back! Also, Always overcrowded so takes away all the joy of training.

The exercise classes for seniors are great! Yes, parking is a problem, but you can park in the Market around the corner. Or walk or ride your bike.

Upsides: very nice facility, friendly vibes, good community programs (I don't use those but I like supporting an organization that offers them). Downsides: not as robust an assortment of strength training equipment as you'd find at the Edge, restrictive cell phone policy (says to not use your phone for anything besides music while working out - so no texting your partner when you'll be home, no using an app to log your lifts), sauna is nice but slick with sweat because few people use towels, very limited parking, always somewhat busy and INCREDIBLY crowded at peak times (be prepared for long waits for equipment around 5pm weekdays - the facility is very much over capacity at certain times).

i love the y!! it is one of the most iconic locations in burlington. very clean, well maintained, huge windows, great natural lighting, and really cool design/architecture. it is my happy place. if you want to go when it is less crowded i recommend going in the morning or early afternoon. after 4 it gets pretty busy!

Good equipment, but it’s way to crowded. Definitely canceling my membership due to parking. More than half of the tiny parking lot is dedicated to preschool parking leaving no room for their members who come to work out to park in their lot. In addition on street parking is busy and usually metered or resident parking only. But the worst part of my experience here was being yelled at by a YMCA employee named Tony, enforcing parking who issued me a $65 ticket after me being parked 5 minutes too late in a preschool pick up spot. After noticing the ticket I asked him about how to appeal or lessen the ticket, only to get screamed at. If I were you I’d avoid any interactions with the parking employee named Tony unless you like getting screamed at.

This Y is clean and beautiful but the overcrowding is unbearable. I’ve tried coming at a few different times- each time (even during a “not too busy” time) I’ve had to wait between 10-30 minutes for a treadmill. People ignore the 45 minute limit and today after waiting 25 minutes for a treadmill and seeing two people reach 45 minutes and just restart I gave up. I’ve tried using an elliptical or other machine while I wait but there could be 3+ other runners waiting to jump on a treadmill too. Therefore, you HAVE to stand there for x amount of minutes or else you’re out of luck. Everyone deserves to be healthy and active and I know it is a privilege/choice to be able to have a membership and run inside-just a heads up to other runners wanting to get in some miles at the Y

Need to cap membership. Far too many UVM students at any given hour despite them having Hutchinson gym

Three stars for the overall experience, of which I'm assuming for most is to complete a solid workout in a decent amount of time. While this gym is centrally located and clean, offers lots of equipment, bathrooms, cardio and weight machines, free weights, and a nice indoor track; parking is very limited and most of the gym parking is reserved for school pick up. This gym is also insanely crowded during peak hours to where one must stand around and wait an unnacceptable amount of time for exercise equipment, free weights, or the racks. The cardio equipment usually opens up more quickly than the weights, but that only works if you come here specifcally for those machines - I do not. Additionally, peak hours are the only times I can make it to the gym, those hours being mornings, lunch time and evenings. From my experience, peak hours are the same between the week and weekend, although this place can still get pretty crowded during off peak weekend hours. I have no problem waiting a few minutes here and there to use equipment, but to have to stand around for anything longer than 10 minutes a pop is a waste of people's time and energy and defeats the purpose of a workout. I have only purchased day passes here for this very reason and am glad I haven't invested in a membership. It would be ideal if this place would consider capping the amount of people admitted per hour or by peak times. Otherwise, one doesn't have a sense of how croweded the gym is until after you've paid and walked up the stairs. Between an overcrowded gym and limited parking, this gym is more trouble than it is worth, personally. I'm on the hunt for other gyms in the local area.

A great location. Tons of new equipment and very clean. But it’s really crowded and not enough parking. 6am, noon, and 5pm are way too busy.
