My husband and I paid for a consultation and to get a quote to engage them as our CPA. We attended the meeting that was extreemly disapointing. We did not get our questions answered and after me following up many times never received a quote for what it would cost to utilize their services.I am now wondering if this is not a scam that they are running to get individuals to pay for a consultation, sign up for their news letter and then ghost them. I will be filing a complaint with the BBB as well.

I paid for an initial consultation to discuss tax implications of short term rentals. I wouldn't normally review, but I wish I could have read a review like this The meeting was an extreme disappointment! I am sure Janet is knowledgeable in her field, but she was very difficult to talk to. She interrupted me repeatedly when I asked my questions. She would take one word I said and go on long tangents and stories about other clients, etc. What's worse is she was honestly just rude. She got mad at me and seemed appalled at the questions I had. I tried to ask her to review some of the literature I had read about STRs and she would not, saying that she already knew all about it. Which, maybe she does, but I was there to have her help walk me through and understand the process better and she was not willing to.The entire meeting was extremely frustrating and it took everything I had to not just walk out. I still can't believe I paid so much for such an irritating and unproductive experience. Janet seems very knowledgeable, but did not seem so on the STR side of real estate, she was not very open-minded, did not give good clear answers and was difficult to discuss ideas with - she instantly would balk at any idea I presented and instead tell me how ridiculous or dumb it was and then go on a long tangent about other clients or accountants, etc., etc.If you would like to have a discussion to understand tax ramifications of Real Estate and STRs I would recommend you save yourself the frustration and the money and go somewhere else.

On Feb 21, 2022 I signed an engagement letter securing the services of this company. I was told in emails that they would handle the entry and proper classification of all transactions. I was also told they would have the set up completed within a couple days. At some point over the next 5 weeks, an employee mentioned they were taking on a large number of new clients all at once. This is likely why the inital set up still wasn't completed after over a month had passed. I started asking when it would be as I can't run my business without reconciled accounts, cash flow forecasting and financials. They responded by telling me that they wanted me to go through hundreds of transactions and manually classify them myself. When I wasn't willing to do this for them because they had previously agreed to do it, THEY decided to take a short-cut. Rather than manually classifying the transactions themselves (as they told me they were responsible for in the initial email), THEY chose to override the quickbooks online file they had been working within with my backup quickbooks desktop file. Due to this choice, they were then required to redo some of their prior set up work and they became resentful because of it. At no point during this exchange did anyone from their office notify me that anything we discussed was outside our agreed upon scope of the work, nor did they discuss and/or request additional pricing. The engagement letter stated, "If additional services outside of this scope are needed, you will be notified and pricing will be discussed before continuation". After several weeks, things were still not proceeding and I still didn't have any reconciled accounts, so I continued asking when they would have things caught up and reconciled. Eventually, on May 18th, nearly 3 months after signing the engagement letter and not having reconciled bank accounts the entire time, I asked if I could just personally finish classifying the still outstanding transactions. The next morning, I found they had restricted my access in quickbooks almost entirely without any warning or discussion as to why. When questioned, the owner, Janet, called me and angrily demanded they were terminating service immediately due to them having done so much extra work. This was a breach of their contract that stated they would provide 30 days notice. We are now left with a mess of a system with no idea what they did and didn't do and no reconciled accounts.Edit - Response to Janet - No one expects you to be all things to everyone. Thus was not the case here. The case here is that your office had a call with me and felt that based on my situation (I both do flips and rentals), I was a great fit for your office. Unfortunately, due to taking on more work than your office can handle, they over promised and failed to deliver. After waiting 3 months, I finally pressed to get things completed and you became angry because mistakes your office made that required additional time to complete and you decided to immediately terminate service. This was not only a breach of contract but also a very unprofessional thing to do. We are left with a mess, a system we don't understand, numerous entries we were told would be made that weren't, and payroll tax penalties because payroll taxes weren't filed as we were told they would be.

There are some very nice folks that work here. I acknowledge that there were likely made mistakes and misunderstandings on both sides and the issues that came up were certainly not all the fault of Utah RE Accountants. What was the most disappointing was how the issues were handled. There were numerous occasions where they failed to follow through on both written and oral agreements. We have been several months now without reconciled bank accounts since moving to Utah RE Accountants, which makes it impossible for us to do cash flow forecasting. I was notified by an employee that they were taking on a lot of new clients at once. Their office and systems are clearly not ready for the growth they are attempting to undertake. When attempting to discuss and explain the frustrations from from our viewpoint with Janet, she simply got angry, raised her voice and told us she was terminating services immediately, leaving us with a system we don't understand, incomplete entries and a big mess on our hands. It's also in violation of the engagement contract which we both signed stating that a 30 day written notice before canceling service.

Janet is building a legacy here. The few weeks of waiting to get on her schedule were well worth it! She was professional, caring, & honest with me. She gave me fiduciary advice that didn't benefit her as much this year... but I will be returning to use her services each year now & am recommending her to 100% of my network involved in real estate.

I can’t speak highly enough about them! I had some challenges for a timeframe and realized it was me more than them. They have completely revolutionized our business. I would be nowhere without them. With our short term rental property management company they have totally smashed it! LOVE THEM!
