Avoid this place at all costs. I wish I had. I loathe writing negative reviews, particularly for local businesses, but my experience was so poor I feel compelled to warn others.On February 17, 2024 my husband and I walked in to Payne Anthony Creative Jewelers looking for a gold locket we could customize with stones and also engrave our initials into. I was curtly told they didn't have many lockets to choose from because Valentine's Day had just passed. Totally fair to not have lockets, but the employee's rudeness was absolutely uncalled for. After I asked if they could do a custom order, the employee reluctantly agreed. This employee, Meri, was extremely rude to me from start to finish. I have purple hair and dress casually, and my appearance seemed to impact how I was treated. I should have turned around and walked out of the store then, but I'm tired of people thinking just because I have a fun hair color I can't afford nice jewelry. And sadly, I get judged so often in Salt Lake I'm sure any other jeweler would have been just as rude.Because of the name and reputation of this jeweler, I was excited to get a custom made locket I could turn into a family heirloom. By custom make, however, they actually meant order from a catalogue. I nearly walked out again as I truly wanted to work with a jeweler and not order something mass-manufactured, but Meri convinced me they could customize it to my liking. We gave Meri all the details and paid in full (a huge mistake). She said it would take 3-4 days to arrive. I thought that was extremely optimistic, but I said okay.Fast forward to early March. We've had no communication and no locket. We were going out of town for a week and wanted to collect the necklace before our departure. I called the store before work not realizing that their business number forwards to their home phone- yikes! The owner was grumpy (likely because of the call forwarding, I also wouldn't want to take business calls to my house at 8am) and told me his staff have had a lot of personal health issues lately and apologized for the delay. He said the necklace would be ready in the next 2 weeks.Mid-March rolls around, our vacation passed, and my husband calls. They tell him that the locket has arrived and they have taken it to the engravers. Once they get it engraved then all they need to do is set the gemstone and we should have it within a week. We verify the gemstone we want.Early April comes around, still no contact. We reach out and were informed that they were struggling to set the stone we had picked and that setting it would take a few days longer. Okay...We finally get the call to pick up the locket on April 19th and I was thrilled. I go right after work and... oh no. The locket isn't engraved at all. They tell me I never asked for engraving, which is maddening since not only had I, but they also used the engraving as an excuse for taking so long.Lucky for me I held onto my receipt which showed I had paid and had ordered engraving. Jennifer was very kind and offered to get it engraved in 3-4 days time. Having heard that before, I decided no, I'd rather take it to be engraved myself.Jennifer was an absolute angel. She was very apologetic and really tried to make things right. For full disclosure, she gave me a discount on the chain and offered to get the locket engraved anyway. I didn't want to risk another 2 months of engraving time, so now I'm taking it to be engraved myself.Finally, the quality of the necklace is underwhelming. The locket is nothing special and could be purchased for $200 at most mall jewelers. The chain, although a nice weight and color, has a discolored clasp. For a $1,600 necklace, I really expect excellent quality, stellar customer service and better communication. Very disappointed and I will be taking my business elsewhere in future.

We had an incredible experience picking out my wedding ring here. The team was fun, friendly and very comfortable to be around. Happy to have found the perfect ring for me. Unique pieces to choose from and the whole team is fantastic. Had a great time chatting with Steven about the store history. Highly recommend!

I am so happy that I found this place and now have a trusted jeweler spot. I have come to resize and engrave jewelry, and I just recently bought a gold chain. Every time I have come, I have received stellar service from Steve and Serena. They’re so kind, warm, and thorough with their vast knowledge and information about jewelry (and I have never felt intimidated as a jewelry newbie). I want to find more reasons to buy jewelry just to be able to come back to the store more often, haha. I highly recommend.

While they are a jeweler in a mall, Payne Anthony is no mall jeweler. I have never had a better shopping experience anywhere, and I'm including Paris and London in that anywhere. We are so fortunate to have such a high quality establishment in Utah.I first walked into Payne Anthony when I was about nineteen, obviously a kid with no money, and was invited by Jeff to 'come play' whenever I wanted. He must have opened two dozen cases and let me handle whatever caught my eye. Now, twenty years later, I have the means to purchase those things that catch my eye, and they treat me like family every time I visit. In addition to my purchases they've done repair, custom work, and maintenance and never given me cause to doubt the quality or the price. I never feel pressured or rushed, more like I'm visiting a friend who happens to have an absurd amount of high quality jewelry that they'd be willing to part with.I cannot recommend them enough. No matter your budget or needs, I can guarantee they will surpass your expectations.

dropped off jewelry worth $xx,xxx for repair mar 24th for repair at their trolley square location, to be taken to an undisclosed location to be repaired. I asked for a call back with repair estimate. almost 2 weeks later, no call. i called to inquire....and when the woman called me back, she blamed someone else for "not giving her the message" with my estimate and informed me she was managing "many other" projects/repairs....but if i approved $200, they could fix it that day for pick up?! when i asked her what they were fixing for $200, she couldn't tell me. I decided to cancel the repair given the poor customer service. picked up apr 6th, and the same woman was surly and dismissive. my advice, take your precious jewels elsewhere, where they value your business, can keep up with customers and deadlines, and are service-oriented. it was a solidly terrible experience ?

I went to Payne Anthony Jewelers after visiting some of the so called wholesale diamond place in Salt Lake.. as well as the bigger chain stores. Hands down Payne Antony was the best prices and service was OVER THE TOP. I purchased my wedding ring with about 4 carats and its amazing. Steve the owner stood behind a small problem even after we moved to another state. i highly recommend buying your jewelry here! YOU CANT GO WRONG

I’m not sure the name of the man that helped me, but he very kindly and patiently checked my family jewelry to tell me if it was real or not. Once we found out that it was fake he talked to be about making custom pieces and about different stones and said that while the stones were fake, we could use the gold to trade for something new. He was very personable and although I was probably not the best dressed and I’d had surgery on my hand the day before, he still was friendly and kind and happy to help. I feel like the bad reviewers on here forget that they’re jewelers and, from what I could see, only 2 of them. Sometimes with custom work they have to take some serious time discussing with other customers especially about engagement rings and stuff. I’m glad I didn’t let those reviews stop me from giving them a chance and I’m excited to work with them on my custom wedding ring.Update:They did a BEAUTIFUL job working with my idea to create a ring from the stones from 3 different pieces of family jewelry. It was created even better than I imagined.

Steve was so great! I took my mom to have her too tight wedding ring cut off and he was so polite, quick and gave us suggestions for when she decides what to do with it. We’ll be back in the future for any jewelry needs.
