This is one of those posts I don’t really like to do, but I was lied to today by a local business and that, along with an awful experience that my wife had the last time she was in has me taking my future tire purchases elsewhere.
Since we moved to the south end of the valley, Discount tire has come highly recommended. For several years (since 2016) I have gone to them for ALL of my tire needs. I felt like they were priced well, fair, and honest. That plus being local was enough for me. Then last year my wife had an experience there that was incredibly unprofessional. The people working the counter were younger and had complete disregard for their customers, my wife said it felt like they were all just really juvenile and had never been taught any manners. I chalked it up to not having an “adult in the room” that day as it seemed like the owner/manager was offsite.
Today I hit a railroad tie in my yard with my riding lawnmower and popped the tire, i didn’t know if I had made a hole in it or just popped it off the rim, so I took it down to the shop and talked with Josh, the owner/manager. He told me “we don’t do those anymore, we kept bending rims, but the store downtown has a machine that will do them.” I took his word for it and drove downtown, the gentleman that helped me there looked incredulous when I told him that Josh had sent me there because “they had a machine that did those types of wheels/tires” he replied “we use a bar, just like they SHOULD do in providence, they likely just didn’t want to do it or we’re being lazy.” Not only is this not a good look for the providence store, but it made me feel gross that I’d just been lied to by someone I’ve given thousands of dollars of my business to. The tire took less than five minutes to fix and the downtown shop took care of me and sent me on my way with no charge.
One has to wonder, if they are so willing to lie about something so trivial, what are they doing for other customers? Anyway, the providence location will no longer be getting my business. If any of you have better suggestions, I’d be happy to take them.

I needed a set of tires this morning. I called the Providence Discount tire at 7:30 am to find out if they had my size in stock. We discussed a couple of options that they had available and set an appoint for 8:00 am the same morning. I arrived just before 8:00 am and left at 8:40 am with my new set of Michelin tires.
From my phone call, to the front desk and the tire service, my experience was probably the best that I have had at a tire shop.

These guys are awesome. Was traveling through town and needed valve stems replaced. They got me right in and didn’t even charge me for the repair.
