I'm sorry, but at least 50% of the time I transact business with this bank it's to solve some sort of problem that I never had with either of the two credit unions I did business with and will now return to.
Look, I really don't like to lay out negative reviews for any institution, however, after I was once again denied the cash I needed from the ATM, and yes my account has sufficient funds to cover any and all transactions I have ever attempted there, it solidified my decision to close my account. As a matter of fact, I would guess that at least 50% of the time I try and retrieve funds from the ATM at this branch, they are not available. PUT SOME MONEY IN THE ATM, PLEASE!
I'll try to keep it short and sweet. I opened this account because it was close to my home, and my mom talked me into it due to convenience. Well, its no more convenient because now I have to travel to another bank and the next closest is a few miles away as I pass my old credit union to get to it to avoid the dreaded "other bank fee."
Next, they are more "put a hold on it happy" than any other institution I have ever been with. But the real problem lies in the fact that NOT EVEN THE EMPLOYEES AT THE BRANCH CAN RELEASE THE HOLD, WHICH IS ASANINE! THEY HAVE TO CALL SOME FOREIGN COUNTRY AND HAVE SOME OTHER PERSON RELEASE THE HOLD VIA PHONE. WHAT'S WORSE, HALF THE TIME IT TAKES MY BRANCH 10 TO 15 MINUTES JUST TO GET THESE PEOPLE TO ANSWER THE PHONE. WHY IN THE HECK CAN'T THE BRANCH MANAGER WALK TO THE COMPUTER, LOOK UP MY ACCONT, VERIFY IT'S ME AS I'M STANDING RIGHT THERE, PINCH ME IF YOU LIKE, AND SAY "LOOKS LIKE WE'VE TAKEN THE HOLD OFF YOUR DEBIT CARD AND WE APOLOGIZE FOR THE HASSLE." BUT THAT'S NOT WITHIN THEIR SCOPE OF AUTHORITY FOR SOME INSANE REASON.
I'm pissed off and I'm tired of taking more of my own time and resources to handle my banking needs because I have to wait for something they should be able to authorize or because they don't keep much cash in their ATM. You're fired, Zion's, and I will be closing my account.
On another note, you really do need to get up to speed with the industry, in my opinion. I WAS FLOORED WHEN I WENT TO MAKE A MOBILE DEPOSIT AND YOU PEOPLE DON'T EVEN OFFER THAT SERVICE. AND HERE I THOUGHT I WAS TECH DEFICIENT.
Goodnight and goodbye! Don't bother replying. It'll just piss me off, and quite honestly, for lack of a better word, you really do suck at banking! I don't know how else to say it.
I will say that all of the tellers have been very kind while I was left waiting for whatever magical hold release fairy was to click the "I can use my card again" button. And the whole time, they would grimace as I could see the discomfort on their faces for having to make me wait. It was almost as if they were saying "We're so sorry, and we know this is completely ridiculous that we can't release the hold on a measly debit card," the discomfort growing on their expressions as the minutes ticked away. The tellers, by the way, are the only reason I gave your institution one star!

Even after several requests and a zero balance they refuse to close my account.

This is the most asinine company that I have ever had to deal with I was paid by check drawn on their Bank and in order to cash it they charge me money because I don't have an account there even though the check is from their bank will not ever ever ever use this bank for any of their services so unbelievably ridiculous I have never had any bank or credit union or financial institution ever try to impose a fee to cash their own check

I wish I could give 0 stars. I was with Zions Bank for 20 years. It was fine, at first, and then they would randomly freeze my account for weird reasons. Once, they froze my account because "they didn't know my occupation." With that, they also froze my 3 children's accounts who were connected with mine, and being in college, we were all beyond frustrated that it took several days to unfreeze them. Right after that, my kids withdrew their money, but I still stayed for a while, dealing with the random freezing of the account, the extra fees they found they could add, etc. But when I tried to leave, I found that it was like trying to quit the mob...I went in, said I wanted to cut ties with Zions and close my accounts, thinking I was done now. 6 months later, I get calls from Zions that I'm past due on my line of credit. What??? I thought everything was closed, so I didn't stop some auto payments (bc, silly me, I thought a closed account couldn't be charged), so they kept just billing my line of credit. Argh. So, I'm angry now and frustrated. The fees have piled up and I now owe a large sum of money. But I just want out! I ask to talk to the manager at the North Salt Lake branch and the nice lady apologizes for the miscommunication, says that everything will be shut down, as soon as I pay the fees. I scrape up the money to pay, thinking I am now out of the Zion's Bank mob. 6 months later the calls come again. They didn't close down my account or my line of credit and allowed all sorts of fees and payments to go through that I thought were cancelled. AGAIN!!!!! I go talk to the assistant manager (the manager I spoke to before didn't work there anymore and there had been 4 managers since then!). Angry, I asked, "How did this happen??? The manager assured me we were finished!!!!" He hemmed and hawed and said, "Sorry, but there's nothing I can do." He then went back and looked at the day I came in to make the big payment and close all accounts with them. Apparently, just after I made the payment, but before the manager had closed all the accounts, there was a fee applied to my account, which kept it active, for now I owed them more money, and it would not close. RUN AWAY FROM ZIONS NOW!!! They are very unethical and have charged me thousands in crazy fees and took no responsibility for their massive mistakes. The next bank I went to didn't freeze my account when I went out of town, they texted me to make sure I approved of the charge, and off we went. Other banks can get it done so much better!

I've had mixed experiences at this branch. Unfortunately there seems to be an undercurrent of not caring about the customer so much. Purely as a bank, I guess they do what I need, even if it with smirk
