We stumbled across this site on our way to New Mexico-- so glad we did! We were camping late season, so were the only campers there. Had 30 acres of land and trails all to ourselves. Super friendly & helpful host, clean port a potties, and AMAZING stars at night! Our dog enjoyed a good romp with the resident ranch dog, too. Will definitely return!

Excellent and secluded campground relatively close to most of the southern Utah wonders. Owner is a great guy and ready to help out at a moments notice! Clean bathrooms, nice trails, and best of all nice and friendly dogs! The night sky is also extremely beautiful. Can't recommend enough.

This is one of the best campgrounds I’ve stayed at recently. The owner was very helpful and friendly. We called pretty late in the evening and he was more than willing to help us out and set us up. The area was quiet and the perfect place to camp. Definitely will be back!!

Gemstone Campground is the place to be if you are looking to camp. My family loved staying here and we’d definitely stay here again. With a stellar host, quality campgrounds, and an unbeatable view of the stars, this place truly is a gem.

It all started with my wife's father being born in Glasgow Scotland, my wife being half Scotch and the Scottish games being held in Moab in October. We wanted a place to park our fifth wheel south of Moab so we could visit a few sights and get to Moab on Saturday for the games. We knew nothing about the area. How about Monticello. So what's in Monticello, several rv parks. We chose Gemstone because it was off the beaten path yet close enough to town and the price was right. We are pretty much self contained so hookups were not important, which they do not have at this time. The only amenities they do provide are water and port-a-johns. I must mention the campsites are huge. So why will I rate this campground a 5.0? It's because camping is about the experience. Pulled in Thursday evening. Friday went to the Needles then Hovenweep monument. Pulling into the campground the throw out bearing in my Ram bit the dust. Needless to say we didn't make the games on Saturday. No shops were open till Monday. Rob stopped by the camper Saturday to let me know that if I couldn't get into a shop he and his father-in-law are both mechanics and would be willing to help fix the truck, plan B. Rob was at the campground that day being brothers-in-law with the owner Vic. Sunday afternoon we had a wonderful time with Rob and Rebecca and their children hiking and checking out a cliff dwelling and then dinner at their house. Called Montella's towing and repair shop in Blanding 20 miles south of Monticello. I told them my predicament needing to get back to South Dakota. A tow truck came out that morning and by 2 pm the next day I was picking it up. Vic couldn't be more understanding. Having to stay two additional nights he said no charge. You had enough to worry about with your truck. I never met these people before. But when life gives you a hand full of lemons there are those who will take those lemons from you and hand you back a cool , sweet glass of lemonade.

My husband and I arrived late without a reservation. It was a easy check in, even after office hours. It is a clean, peaceful, lovely spot to camp with beautiful views of the surrounding mountains rising above the valley floor. The sites are generously spaced and comfortable distance apart. There was picnic table and a fire pit at each site. There is a playground and more. We fell asleep gazing up at the brilliant stars in the night sky, while coyotes serenaded in the distance, and woke up to the songs of mountain bluebirds flitting around our tent and Prairie Dogs popping up from their burrows. We met the owners and their two Australian Shepherds, all of whom are very friendly. We enjoyed chatting with Ether and Gary while packing up and watching their pups scout out a pronghorn skull then bring it over. I would highly recommend this beautiful spot to camp and enjoy the peace and tranquillity.

This place boasts what most campsites no longer have, Silence. When weather is clear, really nice dark skies. And as others have mentioned this really was the cleanest porta potty I have ever seen, cleaner than most well cleaned facilities. Owner is nice and helpful. $25 a night.

Great Campground! Would stay again!Drove in at 10pm looking for a last minute place to camp. Only 5-6 miles outside of Monticello, so not far off the main highway (but far enough that it's quiet) and convenient.Host Vic met us out at the campsite and oriented us to the campground and amenities. He also provided some sightseeing recommendations including where to fill up on gas and stop for supplies on our road trip. He even offered to help pitch our tent at 10 p.m. Campground is well-maintained and manicured and has several sites with a good amount of space. Each site has its own picnic bench and fire pit. There are two porta-potties which were very clean and there was potable water on site. All for a reasonable price of $20. Firewood available for $5.There was also a beautiful view of the mountains on two sides with great stargazing and a lovely sunrise. There also is a small play structure for children.Overall would highly recommend and stay here again. Definitely the most hospitable welcome I've ever received in a campground, especially considering it was 10 p.m. and I wasn't expecting any.

What a cute little place! Rick is a gem himself, honestly. Free vegetables from his garden, the maps, the helpful advice for the area, he was a top notch host. $20, dry camping but has water, bathroom, picnic table and fire pit, not to mention incredible views. Easy access, friendly and safe. Recommend him to Hipcamp as well, as he's definitely deserving of the business. Will return to his place someday!

Easily the nicest campground around, owner is super nice and checks in with you and gives lots of tips on the area. It's on his farm and it's super quiet, my college roommate and I have been on the road for weeks and this place is by far the best we've camped at.
