The staff and facilities are great. The techs really care for the animals and they make to get them out for walks and fresh air. It's always clean and sanitary.

Madeline is the absolute best. I was distraught after finding a very skinny dog. She took it in and made me feel like everything would be OK. I will be forever grateful for her kindness.

I'm honestly puzzled by the 4.6 rating this shelter has, though reading the reviews it seems they at least do a great job caring for the animals already in their custody. I'm willing to accept that I may have simply caught them at an awkward time or on a bad day.Still...I spotted a dog walking in the middle of the road on the outskirts of town headed toward highway 191. After checking for tags and finding none I was able to coax him into my truck and drove to this shelter.I arrived at 1:30 on a weekday to find the lights off, blinds shut and a closed sign on the door. I called the number on the sign outside and after navigating through a confusing and redundant phone tree was connected to 'dispatch'.Moab police dispatch or some sort of animal control dispatch? I never found out and the woman I spoke to seemed confused by the fact I had called at all. After describing the situation I was told that because the location I had recovered the dog (all of 5 miles outside of town mind you) was technically part of San Juan county I should take the dog to a shelter there.I was on a 1 hour break from work and asked if there was anything I could do here in Moab. She collected my information and told me to expect a call back.(which never came)As the mysterious dog investigated the edibility of the tool bag in my back seat I decided to head to the vet and beg them to take the animal off my hands. On the way I spotted the sheriff who I flagged down. He was the one professional person I dealt with during this incident. He made a few calls and told me to head back to the animal shelter where someone would meet me with keys and take the dog from me.Great!Back to the shelter. Lights still off. blinds still closed. closed sign still up.On a whim I tried the front door. It opened. Inside was an elderly woman who seemed just as surprised as I was. "Oh, does that sign still say closed?" Why yes, yes it does. In fact I'd say every aspect of your building radiates a very deliberate 'closed' vibe. The woman, whose name I sadly don't remember, reluctantly took the dog from me (no tags and no microchip) and told me they would hold on to it despite the fact it had probably been fine and that I'd probably "stolen it from somebodys yard"Playing devil's advocate, maybe it was supposed to be some kind of joke but it rubbed me the wrong way after all the hassle I'd been through trying to do the right thing.

I absolutely love this place, its staff and the work they provide to the community. I have just one little piece of information to add to the founding of this fantastic place. It was the foregoing effort of 3 woman (myself included) who founded the private animal rescue PetFriends. We laid the ground work of making the community aware of the dyer situation of homeless Pets in the Moab Valley. In 1999 PetFriends donated their funds, pet food, kennels and carriers to the start up of the Moab humane society, which has been thriving for more then 20 years. Thank you for all you do!!!!Gratefully,Dorina Krusemer

I went in there getting information on adopting a dog. Unfortunately, there just wasn't a dog in there that was for me. But I want to say that Janette was awesome and I really appreciated her help. She is very knowledgeable on what she does and I certainly appreciate that. I'll keep looking out to see if my dog shows up there.

Adopted this sweetheart from the shelter. They were great to work with and she's loving all the hikes and walks we go on. The shelter was very clean and the lady who worked there so kind and you can tell she truly loves the animals they house. She was working on rehabilitating a dog (not the one we adopted) most people would have given up on, training it, loving it and teaching it better behaviors the future owners will love. Before you go buy a dog, consider adoption/rescue!
