Took $500 to not properly handle my fathers 2022 taxes which led to additional stress trying to handle his affairs of passing.
Their poor service caused us to incur additional penalties to the fed and state for late payment. They promised to take care of these issues and provide services for 2023 taxes. Between being ignored by the local branch and now 3 cases with customer service we feel completely abandoned when the current branch manager strung us along saying he would help us get someone to take care of these services to then change his mind a day later after going on a goose chase to confirm the 2022 taxes were filed which we already knew and tried to explain to him.
No integrity, no empathy, no competency. Use Turbotax next time, its very easy for 90% of people doing their taxes, is cheaper and more reliable.

TL:DR took $500 for tax services that had issues filing and led to family owing hundreds to the IRS and state. Promised to take care of next years tax services. When family reached out, they were strung for a month between local branch and cusomter service. 4/9 kids were left to sort out their dead fathers taxes with less than a week.
I passed away 3/4/2023. I had paid H&R block $500 to handle my tax services and provided all paperwork before my passing. Andy McDonald was my original point of contact. There were many issues with getting my services handled. When they were finally "fixed" My children went to submit my filings and were unable to electronically pay what was owed to the IRS and my children were told "Andy made mistakes and because 'your father has passed away', we cannot Esubmit and pay the IRS you will need to mail payment in" this resulted in payment being sent in 2 days late equating ~$150+ in late fees and penalties. We were told by Jayna and the Branch manager at the time we could be reimbursed the $500 or have next years services taken care of at the time.
My son called 3/7/24 to begin that process and left a voicemail at this branch. no one called back. He then submitted a ticket with customer service 19234053 told he would get resolution in 3-5 business day. no one reached back. created another ticket 19886076 on 4/2/2024. heard back on 4/7/2024 from the current branch manager Gus Summers.
They explained to Gus the situation who for some reason kept focusing on 2022 tax year filings (which was explained we knew had been submitted). They ended the call with the understanding that Gus agreed to help find an H&R block associate to handle the 2023 filings and something to corporate for reimbursement on the state and federal penalties would be handled after he shared that Andy Mcdonald made mistakes, never came back to the job and was involved in likely illegal activities.
In follow up emails after sensitive tax documents were passed along to Gus, he assured us 2022 tax documents were received by IRS (my kids already knew this and tried to explain this to him, this was never their concern. He skipped over addressing my kids questions about if an extension would need to be filed or if the documents sent were sufficient to handle the 2023 tax filings as well as receive reimbursement for the 2022 late penalties. He said they should go to another branch to file those taxes and that he would not be helping them and they would need to pay themselves for those services.
they then called the customer service line a third time got another case #20127474. The family at this point has extended a lot of patience and grace.... and also invested a lot of person hours between various representatives. They are stressed about still needing to file taxes added on top of already the many other stresses that came along with a family members passing. Very disappointed in the lack empathy and customer service. will never use H&R block again. Will also be looking to file a small claims court issue to seek reimbursement for being charged previously for services not rendered and late fees to state and fed.

This was my first-time using H&R for my taxes, but it will not be the last! I was incredibly happy with the upload process of my documents and then the quick reply and efficiency of Jamie my tax preparer. Everything happened very quickly. She went above and beyond to be sure all my documents were accurate. I did my own taxes last year with a popular online tax preparing company and it cost me more to file my own last year than it did to have an actual human with all of the knowledge necessary to file them correctly for me. I will never do them myself again. H&R and Jamie have won me over! Thanks!

Back in April I went to this H&R Block and it wasn't a stellar experience from the beginning. The person taking our details was clearly new and was told multiple times to sit at his desk and just answer the phone right in front of me.I understand that time of year is incredibly busy for tax preparers, but we had a HUGE mistake on our return and this could have simply been prevented if Dorothy had taken the time to really look through the documents provided. Not only did the wrong W2 get used, but we we're taxed again on stocks that already had taxes taken out. We paid 19k to fed/state! My HSA reporting and rental income was done wrong or not even reported as well. After getting a notice that we owed another 10K to state, we ended up going to a CPA who is amending our return for us and we are getting back almost all of that money. I write this review to make sure everyone is aware that there is a difference between a tax preparer and CPA. If your W2 is not straight forward, please consider going somewhere else.

I moved to Utah on January 1, 2022. My employer did not update this for external purposes, and as a result, Indiana took taxes out of my paycheck while Utah did not. I usually prepare taxes on my own, but with this unique situation, I wanted to make sure it was done right, so I went to HR Block. The preparer asked me what I wanted to do and gave me different options, which was nice, but she seemed unsure which was the right one. I told her I trusted her understanding of tax structures and the implications of each option than I trusted my own understanding. They filed my taxes with Utah properly, but told me I was totally on my own to get the money back from the state I used to live in and even help me start down the right path.

For years Jamie Fockel has picked me up for our appointments and has driven me home after. My return is pretty simple but she always explains everything in detail and explains everything again when we go through the printed copy. I'm always satisfied!

Truly the biggest waste of time. I am self employed and have several 1099-NEC's. To come people that's common, and to others(The lady at H&R Block) it's extremely inconvenient. She pretty much just stopped talked and every couple of minutes she'd complain or ask me if I wanted to continue. I finally got up and walked out. Truly insane that we give our personal information to these people.
