Owner is the instructor him self. He is doing the business because he loves teaching kung fu not because he wants a business.

While the students and general instructors at Monk Wise are great, the owner will nickel and dime you over anything and everything. Read the contract* carefully. Monk Wise will charge you maintenance fees on top of your tuition. If you cancel your membership, you still have to pay two months’ worth of tuition (supposedly this has been changed to 30 days, but in all our negotiations to end our contract, we never once saw a new contract or signed it, even when we were still regularly attending the school). You’re charged to advance, you’re charged to participate in extra activities, you’re charged to put your account on hold . . . you’re even charged to attend a potluck.Monk Wise works off the idea that you pay a fee and then attend as many classes as you want. But if you have a schedule that makes it hard to come in often, or, say, children, this model is not ideal. We paid extra to receive private lessons, only to never receive private lessons or a contract for the adjusted payment. But, of course, we got $118 taken out of our account regularly, every *two weeks*. Attempts to discuss payments with the owner were either met with very salesman-like runarounds or complete silence. (We were even charged for two weeks’ of lessons when the studio was closed for Christmas break, which is illegal. Like I said, you will be nickeled and dimed to the point of insanity.)If you’re interested in martial arts, there are much better places to enroll. Learn from my mistakes and go somewhere else.*Their website says they have no contracts. This is a lie.

It is an excellent workout, self paced learning, and a fun and positive environment with great people. No other studio like it that I've been to, and has the nicest and most supportive staff.

A great place for children to learn self confidence in a structured and positive environment. The owners and staff are very encouraging and make the class fun.

I started at Monk Wise about 6 months ago, having never done any martial arts before. Not only is it an amazing workout, but it's also a great way to destress and focus on your body and yourself. The people are great, the instructors are fantastic, and I've never had so much fun while exercising. I highly recommend this place!

I've been with monkwise for almost 5 years now. I have learned so much and has so much fun. The classes are exciting and you definitely get a good workout. The fact that there are different subjects being focused on and cycled through each day is cool too. One day is weapons or forms and other things. The instructors are understanding and helpful but also help to push you.

I'm constantly impressed with the knowledge of the teachers, both in technique and in cultural and historical background. It's a great place to go for a rich experience.Pros:+ A diverse curriculum covering several aspects of kung fu including numerous empty-hand and weapon forms, modern performance skills, sanda, and core athletics.+ Flexible and friendly teachers who will adjust the lessons to teach you what you want to learn.+ The performance team is an opportunity for motivated students to push themselves far beyond the regular lessons and compete.+ Class size is moderate and usually there is more than one teacher, so students can get individual help.Cons:- The cost seems a bit more than other options, but considering the quality and quantity of instruction it may be worth it.- All of the extra events and opportunities are so tempting, but the added cost prevents me from joining them.

My kids have really enjoyed their time here! The instructors are knowledgeable and encouraging. Right blend for us of learning discipline and competition and just having fun and getting exercise! We go to the West Jordan location also. This one is smaller, but, bonus! Smells like pizza.

I enrolled my kids over two years ago for regular physical activity and to gain self-confidence. Their confidence as well as their strength/coordination has grown exponentially. The instruction is world class and I appreciate that they value the mental aspect as much as the physical.

Traditional instruction from sifu's with an established school lineage from China and Tiawan. Several styles. Multiple weapons. Meditation. Internal and external arts. Southern and northern styles. After years at other studios, I have never seen such depth of material taught by such skilled, patient, and masterful instructors.

If you subscribe to their mailing list, you will not be able to unsubscribe. When I tried to I got a message saying my subscription had not changed. When I contacted them directly requesting help, they said there was nothing they could do.Very poor customer service.

This review is specifically for Janet, the Tai Chi instructor. Janet came out to our family home and gave us a private Tai Chi lesson, including some history, basic movements, weapon forms and a little demonstration of what a complete series looks like. It was WONDERFUL. She was knowledgeable, professional and made it fun. I would highly recommend her.

I've been with the academy since it first opened and wouldn't trade the experience for anything else. Regardless of how serious you take the training, the instructors will work with you on all levels with great patience. All anyone needs to get started is an open mind and courage within themselves.

If you have never considered a martial art, let me suggest here to be your starting place. Kung Fu and Tai Chi offer an excellent form of exercise that covers everything: strength training, flexibility, and awesome weapons. That in and of itself is amazing, but go deeper, open up more and you will be awe struck by the discoveries you make inside yourself. I found the best me yet; a me that I have never known. If you allow it, if you seek it, if you work for it the principles and philosophies Kung Fu is founded on will take you beyond your expectations and show you a world of possibilities. This studio, these people, Kung Fu has changed my life.-Breelyn Morris
