I recently purchased a betta for my classroom, unfortunately a week later he passed away. I went to Layton PETCO and even though Kaela and Wendy were the only ones on staff with several customers in the store and waiting to check out; they rose to the challenge and treated everyone courteously and took the time to address everyone's concerns :)
Kaela took the time to give me valuable information about taking care of my replacement betta, and then I proceeded to check out. Wendy seemed to have trouble making the exchange, until we later found out that since I used my pet points, I was unable to complete the exchange fairly, and I was left owing $3.08. I told Wendy my concerns, that since I believed it was an even exchange, (a betta to betta at the same price) why am I being charged 3.08? She explained that since I used Pet points, the exchange was only good for .91 cents and I lost the petpoints ($3.08) and could not get them back. I stated that I believed that didn't seem right and I hated the fact that due to not knowing how pet points worked, I wasted my pet points that could/should have been spent on treats or food for my girls (Boston terriers). She sympathized, but it was too late, I lost those points. In the future, could you please put signs near check out informing customers how to best use pet points? During these times every dollar counts, and I can't afford to waste.--Especially since my girls favorite Dogswell treats are now up to $21.99 :( --Also, is there a chance I can get my points back? Thanks in advance for your time and consideration regarding my concerns

The soap spray was not working in the washing area, it took multiple attempts from worker to get the manager over to help. Finally was given a soap bottle reluctantly. We had already paid to use this service, and it was a bit frustrating how drawn out they made this, to just get soap. Typically, we come here to wash our pups, and this is the first time this had happened.

Adopted a cat here today. The sales team was very helpful. Bring a pet carrier with you or you’ll need to buy one before adopting.

I just called to ask costs of putting our pet to sleep as she took a turn for the worse last night. The receptionist told us we had to pay a $76 fee to see the doctor. I asked the cost of putting her down and then what cremation would cost. She said only the doctor to tell us that during the appointment. I have called multiple other places and they have provided costs. This feels like somewhere that they are going to charge a large amount based on our grief. I am.shocked at the lack of help I received and will not be using their services. It is unfortunate that at a tough time like this, busimesses like this would exploit the grief. Surprised Petco allows this at their locations. I understand this doctor is not a Petco employee, but they should look into treatment of their customers. I am a bit upset about our girl, so I apologize for the tone of this message.

The self wash is not made for medium to large dogs. Weak water pressure, lack of substantial shampoo, 2 thin shop towels and a dryer made for a small dog. My dog went home super wet and I finished his groom at home.

If there were another place to get live mice, I would go elsewhere.

Steve who works here is insanely hard to deal with. Super unhelpful and snarky. Every time I come in he is so impolite and has a look on his face like he hates his job. Super unimpressed.

I experienced very rude customer service by Abigail. I asked for 120 crickets in 2 different bags. She asked if I was serious...when I said I was, she acted put out by it.

The staff was friendly and great however alot of there pets were horribly taken care of. I saw a pleco literaly bloated and dying in a tank with 2 other half dead fish. And a ball python with his humidity at 20 and temp at 100. Humidity should be at a good 80 or so. Also his shed was so scratchy and dry(snake skins should come off smoothly as one) and a parakeet the had a gash on his head from being beat up by the other parakeets. Like I said staff is nice and always willing to help but there pets are HORRIBLY. taken care of.

Great store for all the choices and we also use the groomers which are awesome - much easier to get into than Petsmart but also a little judgmental in regards to my pets hair - it gets matted SO EASILY! It’s not that I’m a bad pet owner…so thus the 4 stars instead of 5. They do an awesome job at making my dogs look good.
For the prices, make sure you look at their online store. They seem to always have things cheaper online and you have to ask them to price match. An example is this pictured guinea pig food - $13.99 in the store and $9.95 online. Every time I buy from them there is at least one item I can save on through price matching. Sometimes you can get them to price match Chewy and sometimes not.
