The town of West, Texas is a speed trap for Kolache fans! Everybody plans a Kolache break at West, Texas on their IH35 road trip. 24 Hour Czech Stop Travel Store with 6 Shell Gas pumps ( *No Diesel ) is right along the frontage road at Oak Street in West. 2 bathrooms inside. If you drive RV, or Towing, the Czech Stop oversize parking is across the street with large signs. CZECH STOP has beers, singles or packs. Many types of bottled soft drinks, waters, etc. Kolaches, sandwiches wrapped to-go, baked goods, snacks. Road trip needs & souvenirs, tee-shirts, etc The LITTLE BAKERY is next to Czech Stop, open daytime hours only. Separate sales from the travel store. Has customer bathrooms also. Little Bakery has Kolaches, Klobaznikis, Cakes, Cupcakes... also Deviled Eggs, Greek Yogurt parfaits, Fruit cups, veggie sticks snacks, and Sandwiches wrapped to-go. Sugary stuff & healthy stuff! At closing time, baked goods are moved over to the Czech Stop ( fresh & day-old discounted ). But finding a Kolache at 1AM is rare! *Life hack: The overflow parking might be easier to park & depart, just be careful crossing the street. The gas pump area gets pretty crazy at times.

A definite stop for a meal anytime of day when driving through on I35! I love how good it smells when you walk in. Everything is so soft and warm and delicious!!! My sausage roll was wonderful and the dough was so soft. My kolache was oh so yummy. I love the small town feel and the wonderful service with a smile. If you're looking for a quick and delicious fill up of both your and your car's tank then this is the place to be.

Such a cool spot! I never knew about this Texas staple before a friend who grew up stopping by Czech's on road trips took me here for a quick snack. I grew up eating a lot of german food so this Czech themed bakery was my kind of place. You'd never expect it in West Texas but it is a true oasis. They have everything you could desire -- pastries, cupcakes, cake, sandwiches, kolaches (buns) and more. Get the pork and sauerkraut kolache! Everything is freshly made in house and amazingly inexpensive! Most prices for pastries and buns were $1.50-$3. Definitely coming back next time I'm in the area.

Around the world in 80 days? You can cut travel time to just a few hours if you're a Texan, and I sure the heck am! It doesn't take that long to run into a different culture's snack options and I may have secretly gone to the state fair JUST for that I-35 Czech treasure trove--The Czech Stop--which houses the ALL-important Little Czech Bakery. Now everyone knows that the kolache (for you sweet lovers) and the klobásník (for you savory lovers) is a Texas food group, right next to refried beans and right below chicken fried steak. I've had plenty of variations of both, but The Little Czech Bakery can just take all my money. While I ADORE the sweet kolache (and this is NOT a test, you guys: Little Czech makes NUTELLA ones!!!!), the savory klobásník that promises me a heart attack (SAUSAGE AND CHEESE) gently and tenderly wrapped in the softest, "butteriest," yeasty bread I have EVER had, renders me pathetically useless. Like a teenage boy who meets a beautiful girl, I lose my ability to express myself verbally and I struggle to make eye contact. And just like that teenage boy who unexpectedly gets a kiss on his cheek, Little Czech's fatty-carby kiss is one that won't get washed away from my memory any time soon.

Kolache & coffee breakfast, plus sandwiches, packaged sausages, & other goodies can be had just off I-35 in West, Texas at Czech Stop Bakery. I had breakfast identical to the the one I had a few days back at the other gas-&-eats stop right across the freeway (blueberry cream cheese, poppyseed, and prune kolaches with a cup of coffee. The kolaches at Czech Stop were a little smaller (but 3 of them still made a meal) and about 80% of the cost of the other shop. The coffee selection at Czech Stop is smaller (but quite a bit cheaper), the people watching is much more limited (but tons less crowded), and the souvenir selection much smaller (but more Czech oriented vs souvenir tsunami across the road). I found the value factor to be quite close together when comparing the two gas stop restaurants. Kolache filling at both eateries is generous for the sizes of their buns (nice that Czech Stop individually wrapped each kolache before putting it in the bag). Flavor was also good at both places. Coffee price fit the quantity and quality in each place (with Czech Stop clearly winning the cheapest cup competition). I did miss the energy of the tourist mayhem across the road, but it's your choice whether you want hi energy or laid back relaxed with your morning caffeine and pastries.

Okay here's the obvious: THE KOLACHES ARE AMAZING! But everyone says that so here's my contribution to your decision making process. Pimiento. Cheese. Sandwiches. What?! I feel like I just left a first date and can't stop thinking about him/her. You know? Wondering when we can see each other again... that sort of thing. Can you please just stop here? Please and thank you.

The bathrooms aren't the cleanest (who has time to clean when you're baking all that goodness?!), but the eats are the best. We never DON'T stop at Czech Stop anytime we're headed north. The baked goods are soooooo good--kolaches, breads, sandwiches, you name it. They also have a huge selection of meats, cheeses, and dips. This is your one-stop road trip snack destination! Oh, and there's gas and all that regular filling station stuff, too. The lines get loooooong, but put your patient pants on if you come during peak time and you'll be rewarded greatly.

Their selection of baked goods is extensive, but the lunch and road snack menu is lacking. It feels very much like what you get from a gas station- sandwiches wrapped in cling wrap and overpriced containers with cheese cubes and deli meat. I tried to order a serving of brisket or sausage without any bread, and they said they had none that was fresh. This being a Czech establishment, you'd think they'd have exceptional sausage. I bought a whole sausage from the fridge, and, sadly, it just tastes like ham.

You can't pass through West Texas without stopping here. We stop here on our way to Austin from Dallas and get their sausage rolls and kolaches. I think the inside is a little worn but it's old so I don't mind. It isn't dirty or unpleasant. They just see a LOT of people every single day. My favorite is the sausage and jalapeno roll/puff, the brisket is really good, too. For kolaches I really enjoy the lemon and cream cheese or apricot and cream cheese. I have tried almost everything here and haven't been disappointed yet.
