“El Capital is a great place to relax, especially for history buffs like me! Yes a lot of it is old fashioned compared to more modern style hotels, but that is the charm of it! I only wish it was closer by, but I can't rewrite history now can I?
All and all, if you want to experience history at it's finest, come here!
Rooms: Comfortable and charming, great to relax in. Just a heads up, the shower has 1 knob. You have to check the temperature as you turn because it starts cold and gets hotter as you turn.
Nearby activities: There's a gas station that is called H & H that has a real (and retro) slush puppies machine! I recommend not getting blue raspberry flavor, though that might just be my tastes.
Food & drinks: Good food, no complaints.”

“We were traveling through cross country on a 2,100 mi drive. We checked in Saturday March 2nd around 5 pm. The front desk gentleman upon cheek in was extremely personable and kind. This was our first stop. The rooms were VERY clean and nice. The breakfast was delightful and they even had egg whites and turkey sausage options.We were greeted upon exit by one of the housekeeping supervisors and she even asked us about our stay.The only slight drawback is the highway. If you get a room ask for a room on the backside of hotel.Definitely a great hotel in the middle of nowhere to stay !”

“Econo Lodge can be hit and miss and so my expectations are usually very low; however, this was a really decent stay!
The rooms were CLEAN! I can tell that the owners/staff take pride in their property. Our room was very quiet for our stay (at the end of the building) and the front desk lady and gentleman were friendly and helpful. Breakfast is currently suspended due to staffing issues (?) but that wasn't a problem for us. Apparently the ice machine recently broke but the gentleman offered me ice out of a cooler which was much appreciated and was sufficient for our needs.
I would definitely stay here again if I find myself back in this area!”
“My gf and I stayed here when we were visiting Guadalupe national park. The staff was extremely friendly, our room was clean, and our stay was nice. The downsides of staying here are it's close to the train tracks, but everything in van horn is close to the train tracks. Also, the walls were a bit thin but this is out of the staffs control. Remember, you're in West Texas! If you want luxury go to San Antonio. ?”

Quiet, clean, last remodel does NOT look like paint colors were chosen from heavily discounted rack at random.
Apartment sized refrigerator (~7cu ft) with freezer, microwave, coffe-maker. TV and wifi fine.
Comfortable bed, AC good, water hot.
Horseshoe motel configuration with rooms all on ground floor, parking right out the door, I like this.
Location close to freeway, easy to find, fast food accessible in am.
Mini shampoo conditioner and 2 soaps provided
Waste cans in bathroon AND main room (only 1 is a pet peeve)
Large room with table and chairs, we could have played cards

Closet door would not open, not needed. Reported as I was leaving.

Pillows were foam but not too firm

“The name is easy to remember, the accommodation is very comfortable, clean and tidy, and there is a courtyard to deal with the dog's urination and defecation. The front desk staff are warm and attentive. Breakfast is simple, it would be better if eggs and meat could be added. But for the cheap price it's pretty good. There is ample parking. This hotel is great for road trippers!”

“Great stay. Unfortunate that route to get to the hotel is a bit confusing. Service was over the top, with friendly and helpful staff. Even offered to get ice for me. Second time there and will be back if going through Van Horn again.”

“Right off the highway it was a great place to crash after a long drive. Air-conditioned was great, hot water in the shower, it was all we needed after 7 hours of driving. Front desk worker was there when we checked in and when we left. Hard worker!”

“The neighborhood and exterior do not feel very promising but I couldn't believe the thoughtfulness and quiet comfort of the room. Sugically clean and looks like it was updated yesterday. I didnt expect to have a full kitchen, outfitted with nice clean real dishes. The tv is huge and the ac is ice cold and silent. The staff on the phone and front desk were very friendly. Especially for the price, what a pleasant surprise!”
