April 2023 by Charlotte L.
I became a patient at this office back when Dr. Lesch was in practice, and when he left, I stayed on with Dr. Yau. In 2004 I moved to downtown Houston and Dr. Yau referred me to three other doctors. I became a patient of two of them. Apparently at some point, he dropped me as a patient for not coming in anymore--I guess they forgot to note that I was having to change doctors. Now I am back in The Woodlands and wanted to return to Dr. Yau and made an appointment, they said I had to be treated as a new patient. I waited over a month for the date, which is day after tomorrow. I got reminders and confirmed the appointment, and then yesterday afternoon, they called and said Dr. Yau had dropped me as a patient a long time ago and would not take me back as he is not accepting new patients. I asked about Dr. Mabry, and they said he is not taking new patients. I have insurance and they are on my plan. The website says they are taking new patients, and they gave me the appointment as a new patient. So now I am left wondering why they at the 11th hour decided to not accept me and said they are not accepting new patients, which seems to not be true. Could it be because I am elderly, very healthy by the way, and they do not want to deal with an elderly patient? Now trying to find another doctor and feeling confused, trying to not feel hurt. Shabby behavior toward someone who used to feel good about this office and has had other family members who go there.

I have been a patient of Dr. Mabry for over 20 years. Dr. Mabry and his nurse are wonderful. Unfortunately his billing staff and office manager are not.I always pay my copay when I go in for my appointments. I had received a bill in the mail for over $200. I called to inquire about this bill, because I have never received a bill this high from them. They were both so unprofessional, defensive and rude when I was just trying to understand why and what this bill was for. I guess I asked too many questions and they just wanted me to pay it and not question anything. This went back and forth for several months. It was like they were working against me instead of working with me to understand what this bill was for. It was so frustrating and I was taken back at how they handled this.I found a new primary care doctor.

Please call me. I want to keep this between us, but if you refuse to speak with me I will have no choice but to pursue other options.

Dr. Yau is incredible. I have been a patient here for around 10 years and not only has Dr. Yau taken great care of my health, but also he is great to speak with with at every appointment. It’s so nice to have a doctor who combines personal touches and care with such an outstanding quality of medical care. I highly recommend!

The staff are friendly and don't mind answering questions about processes or procedures if something is unfamiliar, which I appreciate very much. Dr. Powellson is quite thorough in explaining the thought processes he goes through when diagnosing visit reasons.

No Insurance, no help. I Just got out of the military a few years ago and haven't gotten around to getting insurance. I was ready to pu cash today for my visit. They said they don't take in people with no insurance and accept no cash.

Love Dr. Matthew here. I hadn’t had a doctor in a while since my previous one closed their practice, but woodlands family practice took me in and are very good about being organized and communicative. The use of the online portal to take care of most things is awesome too!

We have been with Dr. Yau since our son was born, and now our daughter sees him too. He is very thorough, kind, and communicates well. My kids are always comfortable coming here, and everyone on staff has always been very courteous. My son is still a toddler, but the receptionists act like we’ve been coming for 20 years. When it was just my son, I was always greeted with, “Hi, J! I’ll get you checked in.” Now that I have my daughter, I get, “Hi! Who do you have today? J or H?” It’s never more than 5 minutes after that before we are headed back to a room.

I have been a patient of a doctor at this clinic for going on three years. When I go, I simply do not feel heard, just by this particular doctor. I will address him personally but wow, just wow. I get better care at a Next Level Clinic with the doctors du jour on call that day. That would be a start. Diversity training would be another. My final suggestion is to offer a place where your patients can suggest changes because ongoing feedback and training in a practice like medicine is beneficial to improving said practice. Times have changed man.

My family and I have been seeing Dr Yau for over 7 years and he is a phenomenal doctor. He is very proactive, authentic and compassionate. He not only cares about the physical needs of his patients but also the emotional and spiritual needs which I feel is huge! I feel like God had his hand in our ability to even have him as our doctor because he was not accepting new patients when we first reached out to him. But after hearing our story, he immediately agreed to see our then 10 year old son, who was having chest pains following the passing of my sister, whom he was very close to. I love that he is a pediatrician and also general family physician as it was a one stop shop for our entire family when our children were young. He has helped us walk through Type II diabetes with my husband and a significant weight loss for myself. He is very knowledgeable and I highly recommend Dr Yau.

Seems like a great place from reviews, is taking new patients right now but only if your well. If your sick they cannot see you unless your an existing patient via telemedicine.

I am new to the area. Very friendly and prompt service from reception. Friendly and conscientious nurse. Dr. Powellson is very easy to talk to and takes time responding to all concerns. Glad I found this practice, and I highly recommend.

I’ve been coming here for years. Great doctors friendly. They take their time to talk to you and with Covid they now offer virtual conferences.

Have been seeing Dr. Mabry for a few years now and has always worked with me to give me the best care. Front staff and nurses are also friendly!

They're rude. Average wait time is 90min plus. If you're late they cancel appt with no notice. The front desk staff are nasty. The nurse who was supposed to call in my refill before Christmas said she didn't want to because she'd have to do insurance work after the first of the year and told me to wait a week without my medicine. I had to push to get my medicine -- she had no care or idea what she was talking about. The Christian music piped in does not reflect in the staff or doctors who have zero compassion about leaving someone waiting 90 minutes and the staff and nurses feel entitled to be rude and nasty. We are finding another doctor -- this place is awful.
