Scammed by Lowe’s WarrantyI’ve been shopping at Lowe’s for 26+ years and have purchased countless extended warranties. They sound nice…until you need to use one.I purchased a Craftsman 6000W Generator last February 2023. Bought the extended warranty which the checkout girl promised covered everything, bring it back and we’ll exchange it or give you a gift card. I started it four times in the last year and it started just fine each time. I never EVER put it to practical use. It was there for emergencies.January 2024- Went to start it ahead of this year’s deep freeze and…nope. Right when I needed it. So…loaded it up and took it to Lowe’s. Return desk person says, “No, that’s not the way it works. The minute you open the box you can’t return it. Contact the manufacturer since it has a 3 year warranty and they’ll send someone to fix it to your house. If they can’t fix it we’ll take it back and give you store credit.”Cool… I think. Then I buy the same model and the same warranty. It’s going to freeze and I will need this to power part of my house in case I lose power for days like last year. I’ll get the money back, right?Wrong.I have to open a case with Craftsman, which in turn hands you over to a company called Firman, who actually manufacture the Generator.I escalate my case to the manager, named Nick. Nick must be trained to deny cases. He is rude and condescending. Nick actually says the following, “If you had read the fine print in the Owner’s Manual, you would have seen that you have to bring it to the Service Center (45 minutes away in South Austin). But if we determine the gas is bad, you have to pay the maintenance and repair fee.”I then ask, “So I was supposed to open the box and read the Owner’s Manual?”“Yes.”“Doesn’t that immediately make the Generator non-returnable at Lowe’s?”“Yes.”Last resort. My company spends $25-$30K at Lowe’s a year. (yeah, yeah…for a mega corporation like Lowe’s this is a drop in the bucket..)I have a relationship with these people. I take both receipts to my San Marcos Texas Lowe’s. These folks know me. I see the assistant manager Abby, who I have known for years. I state my case. She basically tells me the Lowe’s warranty is worthless until the manufacturer’s warranty expires. At which point she says when this happens I can drop the Generator off in 2 years, but they will charge me shipping fees and then I’ll be charged if it’s determined the gas is bad in the unit.The lesson? The extended warranty is an expensive piece of paper. Lowe’s and Firman DO NOT STAND BEHIND THE PRODUCTS THEY SELL.The customer is not an asset, but a number. Now I guess I have a bricked Generator and am out $900+. Thanks San Marcos Lowe’s, and the scam that is the Lowe’s Extended Warranty.Am now questioning whether my company should continue to do business with such a shady bottom line corporation.

Update: now you can't return items with a receipt after some period of time...and no option for store credit, Really?Update, I've placed 3 online orders this month and all three have orders that were shorted, ie, front door that shows two on hand, out of stock because their "cycle inventories" weren't updated.2021 review: Huge difference from the competition, not as friendly, return policy less flexible and employees generally not as friendly. I'm a contractor so have lots of purchases and going to Lowe's is my last option. Sorry to say Home Depot Seguin or New Braunfels beats out Lowe's any day of the week. I live in San Marcos, so don't relish driving further for help loading a large load, but will gladly make the trip for a business that appreciates my business.

To be honest until today I've never been a huge fan of Lowe's. Fritz one of the Lowe's pros went out of his way after he clocked out to help me find the right items for 3 different projects I have. I can't thank Fritz enough for his compassion/costumer service. Today Lowe's became my number one choice in home improvement!

WORST LOWES! Went there today around 9am and I was on self checkout and the OLD MAN he got mad because he was trying to snatch my items and scan it himself. I told sir, I can scan my items (he got mad and he never moved from my back, was trying to make sure I scanned ALL ITEMS or thinking I was GOING TO STEAL. I DONT STEAL, I work HARD FOR MY MONEY. I OWNED MY REMODELING COMPANY no need to STEAL AT ALL. I called the store and asked to speak the STORE MANAGER and the girl told me that they don’t have STORE MANAGER at the time so I had to put a complaint w the TEAM LEAD I GUESS, then she APOLOGIZE AND HANGUP IN MY FACE (her name was either JESSICA or something like that. I’ll be putting a COMPLAINT W THE CORPORATION OFFICE AS WELL…. I’ll stop buying at LOWES…. THEY RACES AND DONT CARE ABOUT THE CUSTOMERS.

I placed an online order after checking that all items were in stock according to the web. The idea was to save time. I got an email the next day stating that some of my items were ready, but others would have to wait three more days. I went to pick up the items that were “ready” but found that the store did not place them in the pickup lockers. Instead, they expected me to wait in the 10-person line for the one employee at customer service. It would be faster just to go somewhere else, so I did.

Generally clean and has everything we need but this last time coming in, the Self-Checkout guy hovered over us rudely and then got rude when we were irritated that he still wanted to check our receipt. If you're gonna hover, open a checkout lane and do it yourself. I promise if one was open I would've gone there.
