For the past two years, I have entrusted my pets to this clinic, where we once received compassionate care. Unfortunately, that is no longer the case. Recently, my dog underwent surgery, and the experience was far from smooth. I understand that renovations and curbside visits can cause some disruption, but after the surgery, the vet never came out to speak with me, which left me concerned. My dog developed an infection between his abdominal wall and the incision site, and when I brought him back, they admitted the infection was a result of their surgical procedure. While they initially told me I would only be responsible for the antibiotics and IV fluids, I was charged for everything when I picked him up. When I questioned the charges, they offered a nominal “professional courtesy” discount, but I still ended up paying for their mistake. And again, no face-to-face conversation with the vet.
The following day, I received a call from a receptionist to check on my dog, but she got his name wrong and then laughed about it.
A few weeks later, I brought in my senior cat for an end-of-life consultation. We decided to try one last treatment, and the first dose was administered at the clinic during the appointment, which was on a Friday. When we got home, I noticed my cat was having some issues, and by Saturday morning, he was staggering, couldn’t fully open his eyes, and couldn’t eat. I called the clinic as soon as they opened, but was told there were no available appointments. The receptionist said she would speak to the vet to see if they could work us in and call me back, but I never received a call. My husband also tried contacting them, only to be told the earliest they could see us was Monday afternoon. The lack of compassion has been deeply disappointing.

I took my pets to S&S for eight years. Dr Smith and Dr Garza were amazing. Until this year, when our dogs puppy got sick and it’s been a horrible experience. The Dr that would see our puppy, would never call us back. Half the time we can’t get anyone to even answer the phone or give us a straight answer on a question. Our puppy was in renal failure and half the time I had to remind the Dr what he was calling me about. I called weekly to speak to an office manager and sent an email and nothing.
After some research, the signs/symptoms our puppy exhibited early on should’ve been recognized by a dr. He passed at only a year and a half old. Their techs are the only saving grace, they are amazing and compassionate. Unfortunately after 8 years, we won’t be going back.
Oh and not to mention, they also gave us the wrong lab results and the dr never came back in to talk about the right lab results. Horrible experience and bedside manner. Thousands of dollars spent.

We love this place. The staff is very friendly and they are always happy to see us and our pup. It is very pricey, but we pay because our dog is comfortable with these people.
I've updated my review to add the fifth star. I can't praise them enough. I could cry thinking about the care they provide for my dog. I am beyond thankful for Dr Smith and every employee there who seem to go out of their way in making ME feel comfortable about my dog and his care. I appreciate y'all taking care of my smallest family member and for always being so flexible with us.
Update: Almost 7 years since our first visit, and we now have two dogs. The staff continues to be amazing and patient with our family. I would like to highlight Jesus for always being so knowledgeable and professional and for remembering us.

absolutely amazing! the staff is so incredibly sweet and i love how well they care for these animals. i am never afraid to leave my cat over here for long periods of time, he loves it!

I scheduled an appointment for a dental exam for my cat who has periodontal disease. The doctor stressed the importance of taking action quickly due to the condition of his teeth. He stated I would receive an estimate the same or the following business day. That was two weeks ago. I have called multiple times as well as sent emails to no avail. Not sure why Smith & Shedd make it so difficult to receive business, as I will now have to go to another vet, spend another vet exam visit, just find out the same information so that I can get my cats teeth cleaned. Frustrated is an understatement.

While getting checked out, the tech failed to mention a $10 “OSHA compliance” charge while listing out all the other charges so I was unaware of it until after being charged. This isn’t a common thing in vet offices for routine visits, just fyi to everyone out there. As the receptionist explained when I called, I was charged this because they had to discard the needle used for my dog’s vaccine ? proceed at your own risk but they will nickel-and-dime you.

Snickers is living her best life now, thanks to S&S. Dr. Smith kept us updated throughout the day of surgery and has also followed up by text throughout her recovery period.
I have been a client for many years, and Dr. Smith, Dr. Garza, and Dr. Bilgic are definitely a cut above the rest. This review is long overdue. I'm grateful for the compassionate care they have provided. I highly recommend them!

Dr. Smith & team are hands down the best in town. You can tell they all love what they do and always go above & beyond. Dr. Smith was able to resolve my french bulldogs allergy issue and has helped us maintain his health. Thank you for always taking great care of Pableaux, we appreciate you all!

Our dog had a medical emergency during Thanksgiving week. We called S&S as our regular vet had no openings until the following week. The staff were so understanding and asked us to drop off our pup, Yen, even though they were fully booked for the whole week. The Vet Tech, Jennifer, was incredibly knowledgeable and compassionate, and was so sweet to our baby who has always been so afraid of the vet.Dr. Smith called us later that day and took the time to explain everything they had tested for and what he suspected the issue was. They kept our dog overnight and ensured that she received the best care. We were able to pick her up the following afternoon, and we could tell that they were so loving towards her! She was feeling SO much better and was so comfortable around all the staff members. This is the best experience we have had with a vet team, and will absolutely be back for all future appointments for our pup.Thank you all for taking our baby in and treating her like your own! I highly recommend this clinic to anyone who wants quality care for their pets.

Both the Dr. and tech were respectful and caring towards my dog. I feel my pet is well taken care of and listened to. The Paws program is also a good idea.
