Ordered the chicken fried steak and it was the best I’ve ever had. Their fried okra and fried green tomatoes were also delicious. The Hummingbird cake was also fantastic. The only thing that disappointed me was the bread pudding, but I’m probably spoiled on that particular dessert, so others might not have the same reaction. The atmosphere is also great. It feels like what it is— a small town restaurant with wood paneled walls, wooden chairs, hutches along the walls, and a few paintings. Almost everyone looked up when we walked in. Our waitress was great. I’d go here again.

Had lunch today. Ok but not great. Had the chicken fried steak and it was ok but not “bragging “ good. Service was good and fried okra was good. We were heading to Bear’s Den at Nocona Hills. Bear’s Den Steak Fingers are essentially chicken fried steak cut into strips. Much better and much cheaper than this chicken fried.

Came here for a weekend lunch while visiting. Was knocked over with how much we enjoyed this gem. From the incredible waitress to the welcoming setting to the fantastic food - total package equaled a great spot. I had the Chipotle Chicken wrap which had a little heat and tasted great. The fries that came with it were spot on. Finished up with one of their incredible pies (the Coconut Cream pie) and felt I should never leave.

We had been curious about this place after noticing it when passing through St. Jo a few weeks ago. Today, a friend and I decided to ride our bikes out (from Dallas) and have lunch at the Lazy Heart. The staff was welcoming and accommodating and the restaurant was quiet with locals huddled around the restaurant over their burgers and chicken fried steak. My friend order the double-barrel: two chicken fried steaks, mashed potatoes, and onion rings. The servings were generous and he clearly enjoyed it; he devoured it (I was honestly surprised he finished it). Being that I had recently started a diet, I ordered more modestly. Though not the most diet-friendly menu ("fried" is a vegetable, I joked), I ordered the blackened catfish filet with a salad and the daily vegetable (fried [okra]). The salad was typical iceberg, cucumber, and tomato fare, but it hit the spot and met my needs. The catfish was not in the least muddy; rather, it was sweet and flaky and perfectly seasoned. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The okra was solid, but nothing out of the ordinary. We reluctantly but diligently did not sample desserts. Overall, we enjoyed our meal and the environment. Someday, diet or no diet, I'll go back and order the CFS (just one, though) and have a slice of pie.

This is a fun and interesting local little history museum that runs on donations. It takes 30 minutes or more to see it all. The staff volunteers are friendly and informative. You can walk around and see things by yourself and at your own pace. They have restrooms and an elevator or stairs to the second floor. Lots of olden day things to see and learn ago it, all with a history to the life of Texas and days gone by.
