We went to adopted a puppy from them. The staff were super friendly and the adoption process was easy. The facility was very clean. All the babies cages had food, water and were spotless. I would definitely recommend this shelter.

Amazing service, amazing staff, kind and friendly, and out there to help these fluffy angels find a home. We just adopted a dog from them and took a small tour of the shelter.
Shelter is extremely clean. Each animal is well cared for, fresh water and food, with clean bedding and cages. Absolutely amazed by the service and atmosphere. Thank you guys so much ?

We recently adopted a kitten from this shelter and the adoption part of things went wonderful. We had friendly customer service and we're helped during the whole process. I have no complaints about this part of the experience. However, about 2 weeks after we adopted the kitten I started having swelling of my eyes and rashes on my skin. I saw my doctor and she narrowed it down to an allergy to the kitten. I stopped handling the kitten and my swelling would get better but every time I handled her the swelling would come back. I called the shelter for 4 days every morning and explained to them that I needed to bring the kitten back due to my allergic reaction and I was told they didn't have space. The 3rd day I was advised to call Greenville and Rockwall animal shelter only to find out from them that Rockwall is a city shelter, not a county one, and Greenville told me they only serviced Hunt county and that my home shelter needs to take the kitten back from me and it's a service to its citizens and they weren't providing that service to me as they should. I was frustrated at this point since they should've never advised me to contact these other shelters knowing they could not help. I felt like they were just trying to get me to keep the kitten. My husband finally called them on the 5th day and told them we were bringing the kitten back up to them that morning. He told them it wasn't fair to the kitten that she was caged in the front of our house to keep my reactions to a minimum. They had a whole different attitude at this point with both of us. When we arrived at the shelter the energy and attitudes were opposite of what we originally incurred during the adoption process. They acted like we had committed some crime needing to bring her back. I see now why they are full and can't find people to adopt. When you treat people with a shaming attitude for needing to return a pet I doubt that creates a safe positive interaction for the next time they might consider adopting. I do understand it may be frustrating on their end, but there is no reason to not have good customer service and create a positive interaction regardless of the reasons someone may need to return the pet to the shelter. I highly recommend the employees there remember that this is a business the city offers to its citizens. You get paid, the adoptions cost money, the surrender of an animal costs money and we the citizens pay for this service through our taxes, as such just like any other business, RETURNS are sometimes necessary.

I got my cat from this shelter. Since, we have found out that she has had 2 different types of worms and have outstanding medical bills. One of my friends also got a kitten from here, she also had worms. Steer clear of this place.

They make the adoption process EASY. But as far as I can tell they really don't test for stuff because we've had multiple problems including worms and ring worms.

We found a stray kitten with no mother.Royse city animal shelter turned it away. That’s what you get for trying to be a good person I guess. They told us to leave it outside where we found it. What exactly is your job if it’s not to take care and take in animals?

My children rescued a kitten out of a storm drain, spent hours outside pulling every single flee off of it, bathing it and nursing it over night, then I brought it to the shelter, which I know for a fact is the one I'm meant to use for where I live/ found the animal. From the moment I walked in the door, the women was trying to find a reason to not take the kitten. First it was "oh it might be too young", then it was "we don't have a foster ", then "I looked it up on Google and it isn't our service area", then she threatened to fine me or call the police on me for animal abandonment if I didn't take it with me. Freaking pathetic. Obviously just doesn't want to do the job we all pay taxes for her to do, even though my family did half of it for her. I asked if I should have just left it in the drain and she said "Well you took control of the animal so it's your responsibility now". Wow. Just wow. I'm filling a complaint with the city.

We recently adopted a dog from Royse City Animal Shelter. I can’t say enough nice things about them! They made the adoption process very easy. They send us home with lots of goodies for our new pup. The adoption fees are very fair.
