“PRISONER LIVES MATTERThe state of Texas is having record breaking temperatures. An Amazon delivery man made the World news as he stumbled and his body gave in to the crippling heat. But has anyone given any thought to the prisoners in Texas Department of Criminal Justice? Did you know that these prison units are without air conditioning? Did you know some of the units are nothing more than camps constructed of metal buildings that don't even have opening windows? Do you know how many people die a year in TDCJ from heat without it being the hottest summer on record? How would you feel if your loved one was stuck in a place like this, so close to coming home, but then you get a call that they've died of a heat stroke? These are completely INHUMANE conditions. The state knows it, but they cover up the problem. They put off inspections and inspectors by saying, "Sorry, for security reasons your inspection has to be rescheduled". They buy the press to keep the stories off the news. They hire fancy lawyers to keep the lawsuits quiet. They let voters think all prisoners are evil and deserve the worst. THIS IS NOT THE CASE! Some of these people in prison don't even belong there. Some are nonviolent offenders who never hurt anyone but themselves. Yet their fates are no better than the murderers and predators. Something needs to change immediately. Lives are at stake. 32 people have already died and it's just starting.”
