A Deeply Disheartening Journey with LA FitnessTwo years ago, my wife and I, while living in California, embarked on a journey with LA Fitness, filled with hope and excitement. We signed up for a personal training program, offering us eight sessions each at the Fontana gym. The only beacon of light in this experience was our trainer, Denis - punctual, professional, and knowledgeable. He stood out like a rare gem in an otherwise lackluster setting. However, this was just the beginning of a series of letdowns that were to follow. Each of us was charged a hefty $640 for the sessions, plus a $35 monthly membership fee. Upon our move to Houston, our optimism quickly turned to dismay. The nearest LA Fitness club was over 30 minutes away, a far cry from the convenient 6-minute distance we were accustomed to in Fontana. We attempted to utilize our remaining 50 sessions each at the Park Row location, only to be greeted by an unbearable, sweltering environment due to a non-functional AC - in Texas summer! The stench and the heat were suffocating, with no relief in sight. This negligence in basic facility maintenance was unacceptable. Our disillusionment deepened when we realized we were trapped in a financial vortex. Unable to pause or freeze our memberships without losing our accumulated sessions, we were forced to bleed $150 monthly for a service we couldn't use satisfactorily. Our experience further soured at another club, 35 minutes away, where we were informed that our sessions were invalid and required additional payment. The lack of consistency and transparency was staggering. In a desperate attempt to salvage our investment, we tried the Cinco Ranch gym. Here, we met Kevin, a trainer whose lack of professionalism and planning starkly contrasted with what we were initially promised. Random exercises without any structured plan, no body fat or muscle measurements - it was a farce. The situation worsened when Kevin left on July 28th, 2023, leaving the gym without any trainers for nearly two months. Throughout this time, we continued to pay our fees, hoping for a resolution. Finally, we were contacted by Austen, a new trainer, on September 18th. However, just like before, Austen left after only a week of training with us.The high turnover of trainers, a clear sign of systemic issues, was further illuminated when one trainer disclosed that they were paid a mere $8 per session. This exploitation of trainers is indicative of LA Fitness's disregard for both its employees and its customers.Today, I stand here, exhausted and disillusioned. LA Fitness has been a vortex of broken promises, zero customer service, compassion, quality, or organization. This is not just a review; it's a plea to anyone considering this gym - think twice. Our experience has been nothing short of a nightmare, a costly lesson we hope others don't have to learn the hard way.

I personally had a racist problem with a man from the gym who attacked me and verbally offended me by making violent and obscene gestures, he hit my bag and raising his voice I made complaints and the staff checked the cameras, they did not let me see them and the answer was no. It looked good, obviously I canceled my membership and left, but the guys who serve are practically children. At the front desk there are no trained people or any type of security and violent people come and the gym does absolutely nothing. Everyone must take care of themselves, for me it is not a safe place.

Money-minded without being customer service focused.I had ~25 personal training sessions on my account that got wiped without any prior warning on expiry. I got the classic explanation that the expiry clause is in the fine print! If only they realize that customer retention could go a long way in terms of revenue, than trying to just fleece first time customers with false promises. Also, they make it hard for you to cancel membership, so your money keeps flowing in. While they are open on weekends, they will let you cancel only M-F with a Manager. Reason given is ID verification is needed, but not sure what exactly is a Manager doing on verifying ID that any other staff cannot. Alternatively, you are asked to print, complete and mail in the cancellation to headquarters - again just making it inconvenient so as to delay cancellation!

My experience with LA Fitness has been frustrating and disappointing. I signed up for a family membership and personal training, with clear terms discussed. I was assured that I'd only be charged $720 for 12 lessons, and these sessions wouldn't expire due to my busy schedule. However, I soon found out that they were deducting $720 from my account every month, which was not what we agreed upon. When I attempted to resolve the issue, I discovered that the manager who initially helped me had left, and the new manager promised a refund but failed to deliver. This pattern repeated with yet another manager. The third manager I spoke to was unhelpful and insisted that I should have read the contract thoroughly. I believe this is not only misleading but also dishonest on LA Fitness's part. It's disheartening to see how this place operates, seemingly more interested in collecting commissions and quick turnover of managers than in providing transparent and customer-focused service. I strongly advise others to scrutinize their contracts with LA Fitness and be cautious when dealing with their management.Overall, my experience has left me disappointed and frustrated, and I cannot recommend LA Fitness based on my encounters with them.

Overpriced considering that weights are constantly in the wrong place, I never see anyone cleaning equipment, open hours are ridiculous (especially on the weekend). Not to mention their ridiculous cancellation policy.

PROS:–Have good equipment. If you go at the right hours it won't be too crowded.CONS:–If a Sauna or Steamroom is a must for you, go somewhere else. This location is new but seems to have acquired run-down equipment for their Sauna (infrared) and Steamroom. The infrared dry-sauna has been down for months now without any indication as to when it may be back up and running. The steamroom is super inconsistent, and if you try and ask staff for any guidance as to when it may be available they do not (or will not) offer any guidance no matter how polite you ask. I can totally understand wanting to conserve and not keep them running all the time, but at least give the customers a hint as to when to show up or not to show up if you intend on using the steamroom. Employees feel very dismissive or seem like they're nervous about giving any answer on the issue. Just give me a hint as to when to come or not to come for the steamroom!!!I will be freezing my account for the foreseeable future (not cancelling entirely yet).

Pathetically overcrowded. I dont know how they kept on admitting more candidates with minimal healthy conditions of exercising place like this (well, maybe I know $$$)... in addition, is the annoying teenagers. They come here to socialize & hangout on the equipments, while people who actually come to work out have to wait until they finish playing around. Week day evenings are worst.

4 star because no sauna. I’m visiting from out of town and didn’t realize this location didn’t have a sauna. Other than this it’s a pretty nice and clean location.

Terrible customer service! I got to the gym when they opened at 8. Turned on the sauna and grabbed a quick workout. 8:35 a lady comes into the mens locker room, opens the sauna door and tells me I need to leave for 15 minutes while she cleans. I explained I only have 10 minutes before I need to go and to please clean in 10 minutes. She said she was cleaning now and if I dont like it tell the girl up front. So I did. The girl up front walks back and talks to her in spanish then turns to me and says “sorry she needs to clean now”. I guess my membership is for them and not me. I will be looking for a new gym.

Equipment & option environment is great! Wish people would clean & pick up after themselves! Most people leave plates & Db out!

would give 0 stars if it was possible. management is awful, and it's impossible to cancel your membership. called so many times and apparently there was "miscommunication" which made us delay cancellation. costed an extra monthly charge that they refused to refund.

Went to cancel 2 months ago, only to find out they continued charging me. Tried contacting over the phone and the manager insisted that I had agreed to continue the family plan, even though as the primary account holder I wanted to cancel everything. Whatever, I was misunderstood and they had already taken ~$200 and hours of my time. He said he would cancel everything per my request so I would not have to go all the way in person. Only to find out IT IS STILL NOT CANCELLED! Horrible management and customer service. Manager was extremely disrespectful. Avoid this location.

The place is OK. Equipment once broken takes forever to get fixed. Limited TV channel selections while using the equipment. Except Fox news channels which are ALWAYS available, there are no other network news channels except ABC. CNN is available some day but it is constantly being censored on other days when there are a lot of news activities. I know we do not come here to watch TV, but having something to watch makes the workout session faster and more pleasant. LA Fitness owner's political party should not be allowed to control what news channels the customers can watch.

Why do they blast the fans when it’s cold outside!?! Also when the equipment breaks down they take months to fix the most simple issues. An examples is the leg extension in the attached image, it’s been 2 months now and that machine is so popular. There also isn’t a sauna here and there is a room called “Pilates” that has literally never been used and could’ve been used for so many different things to attract more customers and make the gym better. The only great part about the gym is the staff that works there which is why I’m giving it 2 stars instead of 1.
