Mamie George Community Center; 1111 Collins Rd., Richmond TX 77469, open Mon-Fri 9am to 3pm, is part of Catholic Charities in the Houston Galvestion Catholic Diocese. It provides an AWESOME outreach to Fort Bend County's senior residents.Seniors are allowed 2 free bus tickets daily: one from their residence to Mamie George and one to return to their residence from Mamie George.Mornings, Mon-Fri, the Fort Bend Transit bus picks up Seniors at their residence and "drops" them off at Mamie George. They, along with other Seniors who do not ride the bus, are offered a Continental-type breakfast before attending various daily activities. Activities include a Reading Library, an Arts & Crafts Center, an Exercise/Workout Room, a Bible study on specific days and times, a Games Room where seniors can play Dominos and/or Card Games, and an area supplied with various types & sizes of puzzles.Lunch is served daily at "Patty's Cafe" from 11 to 2 o'clock where seniors who have registered can eat free of charge; there is a fee for others to eat at Patty's. The Fort Bend bus picks up Seniors after lunch and takes them home.Drive-through food distribution is offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Mamie George, one in the morning and one in the evening. The Malta & Catholic Diocese, along with the Houston Food Bank sponsor a once-a-month drive-through Food Fair at Mamie George Center usually held on the last Saturday morning of the month from 9:30 till 11 o'clock. Mamie George Community Center and the Houston Food Bank also sponsor a bi-monthly "Senior Box" food distribution. Seniors who live in Fort Bend County, who meet specific qualifications must register for the program may pick up their "Senior Boxes" once every 2 months.Times and dates may be verified on the web under Catholic Charities, Mamie George Community Center. Fliers with this information are available in the lobby of Mamie George Center, Mon-Fri., 9am till closing at 3pm.
