It was the worst horrific experience! Not only did it almost cost my dog's life but also leave me with huge vet bills.
Months ago, my senior dog started to cough a lot and breathed really hard. It sounded like she was drowning. We took her to The Vet House at Richardson. After diagnosis, the vet told us she had an allergy so the vet prescribed antibiotics. Even though I have a doubt. My dog never had an allergy problem. However, we choose to trust the professional.
After finishing the antibiotics and taking allergy medicine every day. My dog got worse. One day she laid on the floor and couldn't get up and breathed very hard, We had to rush her to the emergency hospital.
My dog's oxygen level was down to 64% (normal 95% and above) so the hospital vet quickly gave her oxygen. After the x-ray, The hospital vet found out that there was a lot of fluid around her lung and heart. The hospital vet started to drain the fluid for her.
I thought I was going to lose her. I called all of my family and brought my other dog to say goodbye at the hospital. Luckily she got better after draining the fluid.
Now, she has to take a lot of meds for life. We went back to The Vet House at Richardson to prescribe my dog's meds the next day. I asked the vet about the last diagnosis. The vet told me my dog's lung was clear last visit but we brought my dog to see the vet because we were concerned about her coughing and hard breathing like she was drowning for the visit.. Why was her lung clear through the Stethoscope? I DO NOT understand!
I can order all of the meds from their pharmacy quickly and easily but it would cost much more on shipping and the meds price. The Vet House won't allow my pharmacy to contact them for a quick approval. I can only get a hard copy of the prescription which my pharmacy has to take up to 21 days to receive and process. I never have a vet doing this. This is my worst experience with a vet! I will never go back there again!

I took my German Shepherd Bambi in for a spay and gastropexy. Immediately after entering the clinic, I was greeted with nothing but professionalism and kindness from the front desk staff. All of the vet techs are equally as kind and very knowledgeable in all the aspects related to these surgeries. No matter how many questions or concerns I had, the staff answered each with thorough detail and they answered it in a way that someone who knows absolutely nothing about the anatomy/functions of a dog, would understand. As if the customer service was not already outstanding, Dr. Smothers joined Bambi and I during the consultation and drew out a very well thought out diagram of exactly when, how and why these surgeries would be done. During the consultation, Dr. Smothers said that she was an artist when it came to surgeries on our furry friends, and I can vouch and say, she is absolutely an artist when it comes to anything pet related, not just surgeries. Overall, from start to finish, I’ve had nothing but a great experience and I know if Bambi could speak words, she would say the same. Thank you to the entire Vet House staff for an amazing experience and thank you Dr. Smothers for a job well done. We will be returning with Bambi for any future needs and I recommend The Vet House to anyone looking to get their pets taken care of in the most comfortable, professional way possible.

Dr Wagner and the others have been wonderful and very caring towards my dog, but I do not recommend Dr. Merk. My dog has canine cognitive dysfunction and seems to be in the last stages of her life. When I spoke to Dr. Merk on how to manage with her. She was very apathetic and just offered to give her sedative instead of trying to help me or give me any advice on how to give her a better quality of life. I had spoken to Merk before about my dog's kidney disease, and she was very cold then as well. I appreciate her honesty, but especially at a time like this where my dog is at the end of its life, and I am struggling, I would also appreciate effort and empathy to make my dog as comfortable as possible in her last days.

We have been taking our sweet boy here for a couple of years now and everyone has been wonderful. Chunky saw Dr. Smothers today for bladder inflammation and she was so sweet and thorough, explaining everything to us and giving great advice on treatment. The tech that treated our boy was so patient and gentle with him, and he’s a very scared & anxious little boy. They were all very caring and professional, and I was very happy with our visit. Thank you to everyone there who saw Chunky today!

Me and my wife recently took our cat Biggie to the vet house and were having trouble with our care credit. Sarah took the time out of her day to solve our problem with our card and process the payment. This really helped out she could of easily could given up and asked for another payment method but she persevered and got everything sorted out for us. Thank you so much Sarah stay blessed!!

I've trusted the ladies here for a few years with my kitties and they have always done a wonderful job! I come to them for their dentals as well as check ups and anything that crops up in between- they just took wonderful care of the newest addition to my home in a senior rescue. I brought him because he'd stopped eating and was acting very lethargic- they diagnosed his ear infection immediately and once we got the treatment on board he was happy and eating again within a few days! I was worried it was going to be a battery of expensive testing but they had us diagnosed and treated so fast and affordably! I always recommend the Vet House when anyone is looking for a vet that really cares ??

I can't praise the Vet House enough for the amazing care they've provided our fur babies over the last 5+ years!
Services Used: General checkup/vaccinations, emergency surgery, dental work, nail trimming, boarding, allergies (seasonal and severe skin rashes), IVDD issues, puppy care, senior dog care, rainbow bridge care.
Pets Seen: German shepherds, rottweiler, dachshunds
We began using the Vet House when we were fresh college graduates. They've always been affordable and upfront about costs, medication, lab work, and alternatives if certain things weren't in our budget. Most of the time, our visits were for annual checkups and vaccinations. As our dogs got older, we've unfortunately had to make additional trips for issues like arthritis, severe allergies, pre/post-surgery (IVDD), and helping our oldest cross the rainbow bridge. When we went on a 2-week vacation, we boarded our senior dog with them and received frequent updates throughout their stay. The staff and doctors are always so welcoming and caring, even if they're busy and the phones are ringing off the hook. They take the time to address all of our concerns, whether it's financial or general health questions. They're attentive to the pets, allowing them to calm down if they're stressed in the rooms before moving forward with handling them. I've never felt rushed or disregarded here. The decision to help our dog cross the rainbow bridge was extremely difficult, but the Vet House did everything to reassure us from beginning to end. We are so grateful for the level of compassion the staff showed during this time, knowing that they genuinely cared for our pets and shared in our loss. If there were hiccups with service, the staff has always taken accountability (to be clear, no major mistakes were experienced with them). As a family on a very tight budget, sometimes their suggestions for food or medication just wouldn't work for us. They took the time to find affordable alternatives, or in situations where alternatives would not be helpful, explained how/why it'd benefit our dogs to stick with the prescribed suggestion. This can seem like they're just trying to take our money, but I genuinely believe that the staff only suggests what works best from their experience. For example, our GSD had seasonal allergies and was treated with Apoquel for years, but it escalated into a nasty skin rash that looked/smelled like rotting flesh. The labwork, medication, and shampoo were crazy expensive. We tried alternatives from the store before realizing that the money we put toward those "quick fixes" totaled up to the medication from the office anyway. Even when the alternatives would show the "same active ingredient", it truly wasn't nearly as effective as the medication from the vet. Even if the office is having a horrible day, I've never known them to be rude, dismissive, or "money hungry". The facility is clean, both inside and out, and the waiting area has never been crowded - which is super important for folks with reactive/hyper/anxious pets. Scheduling with them can seem difficult if immediate care is needed, but they're always willing to squeeze in an appointment. They're great with communication, especially now that their app is running! For other emergencies, they're partnered with local animal hospitals or even the shelter for additional care. I cannot recommend this place enough to anyone looking for care for their pets.
TL;DR - We LOVE the Vet House!
