I've grown up coming here. This American Legion in particular is very special to me. It is very communal, everyone knows everyone. It has the best views of the lake in 3 directions and you cannot beat the food and drink prices.

This is a great place to visit. They have a stunning view of Lake Texoma, a fun atmosphere and great food. Everything is priced low. The RV Park is right on the water, and they have a boat ramp right in their parking lot. Awesome time we will be back.

I'm a member and officer here at the Country Club of the American Legion on Lake Texoma. Here are a few updates. The campsite are now open for your camping pleasure, we now accept credit cards at the bar, and we are building a beer garden under the post to be open this spring. We still serve the best breakfast on the lake every Sunday morning from 10 am to 11 am for $6.00, we have dinner every Friday night at 6 pm prepared by the members of the post. On the second Saturday night, we have steak night and serve a prime rib steak with all the fixing. We host many events throughout the year at the post, and our biggest event is in May on the weekends of Memorial Day. Is the Rajun Cajun. Please make plans to come out to the post this year and support a Veterans organization.

Got a Airbnb up there for our son's 14th birthday, the legion allowed us to have fun at their park. Thank you for having open arms with us. We created wonderful memories for the kids at this small park. God bless y'all and thanks for being a part of the Military past and present.

Our Associate Director Ron and his wife Jo along with Spanky and myself. Went to Durant Airport to see President Eisenhower Air Force One from 1955. They were giving Airplane Rides. Then we ended the day downtown to a car show. We really enjoyed getting to know our newest member and his lovely wife.

Big old space, friendly service. Beautiful views. Has a kitchen for bar food and the prices for the drinks are well worth it. Cash only bar! Great atmosphere. Definitely recommend stopping in, getting a drink and taking in the view.

Excellent service, amazing view of lake, hot bar menu after kitchen closed, 2 new dart machines, 2 nice pool tables, clean bathrooms, and karaoke (most locals were talented singers). Loved it!

Service could be friendlier. Music could be louder. Should have another room or they should go outside when doing meetings instead of expecting bar patrons to be quiet.

From the 1960s until 1990s, almost 2/3 of my summer vacation, and nearly every weekend, were spent directly across from the Legion. There was a huge row of shrubs, and my family's lakehouse was directly in that corner lot. There was a little bitty, red, wooden cabin next to ours, and south of him, a wood cabin with brick. (These people were really good friends of my grandparents but I cant remember their name). The 4th fireworks were always down in front of the boat ramp, in front of our lot. We had front row seats every year, and it was an abundance of family ties, friends, food, dances & fireworks. We always made an appearance for breakfasts and any cookouts/cook-ins at the Legion. Pool table, ping pong table, jukebox, live bands, and dances filled up our time between being out on the boat, or swimming at the boat ramp, or riding mini bikes & motorcycles nonstop from our place, down the sand trail, and a circle around the Elks club. My best friend for the summer, was Ricky ??(can't remember last name) but he lived there, year round with his dad and family. There were a couple of roads, behind us, lined with trailers/houses. They lived on 2nd street to west of us. My grandparents were Clayton & Evelyn Bourland. My mother, LuCretia, was their oldest daughter. Their son was Don, along with their youngest daughter, Neasie, (or Denease), who had down syndrome and she LOVED everyone and everything at the lake house!! My granddads brother, Tom (Billy) Bourland also had a trailer there, 3 streets behind us; and their kids with their families, would spend countless summer days there, as well.Back then, you had to walk from Legion, west, on the paved road, to top of hill and cut off to your right (north) onto a trail that lead down to a little cove, and granddads boat & uncle billys' boat would be docked there. The train was a legend even back then. The old man who owned it, had it running on weekends, taking any of us on a "train ride", that wanted to ride. It was the engine, plus a passenger cart with no top on it and wooden benches all around it to sit on, or the floor. I don't think it had a caboose on it back then. But It came complete with extra loud whistle and a good sized bell that he would let us local kids blow and ring all we wanted. I bet we drove him crazy!!! The lakehouse, the Legion, the family fun, was a kids' dream. Wish I'd had the same experience for my boys & grandson. They'd have been in Heaven too!I remember the old Fink station.. or the marina store at my Aunt Peggy Kemp's Lighthouse Marina, was where we had to go get bread, lunch meats, store items, etc. (Or drive back into Pottsboro). My best memory of granddaddy, was us all getting gussied up for a dance with live band at the Legion. I never wore dresses, but I did that night, cuz Granddaddy hounded me and hounded me to. I was 4. I thought he was so handsome that night....Then, the band started, and he picked me up, got us both formally situated, and we danced and danced and danced. From that special night, until he went to be with the Lord, he was my exquisite dancing partner, my fishing buddy, my confidant, MY Hero, MY Granddaddy!!! And I was his little tom-boy, granddaughter!!!! Your Legion still holds a special place in my heart. We will be there this July 4th holiday. Not sure if fireworks are still there, or elsewhere. But myself, my husband of 37 years who is a US Marine, along with our 13 yr old grandson, will definitely be coming in to eat, look around, reminisce , play some pool and hopefully do a little dancing or boot-scootin!!! Save me a table for 3! My name is Monette (Shanks) McCollom. And Clayton Bourland was our family patriarch. God bless!!
