I had the worst experience with Balance Hair Studio. I paid Latina for a consultation prior to my appointment. ( I struggle with hair loss). During my consultation I expressed my concern for coverage and style versatility (mainly wanting to put it up in a ponytail). After Latina examined my hair she suggested options.
Her suggestions were tracks (in the crown area for coverage) k tips & V tips. Latina explained to me that she did this on a client that had more hair loss than me. Then proceeded to show me pictures of the client. So I went with that service. I also asked for highlights.
Needless to say I did not get what was suggested, what I asked for, or what I paid for.
By the time I got home all the curls were gone. The front where I expressed my main concerns for coverage, you could see all my imperfections including the tracks she put in. My hair was not blended at all with the hair extensions. When I tried to put it in a ponytail, the front looked worse. I got little to no V lights. I asked for highlights and got ombré!
I respectfully communicated my concerns with her and sent pictures. Latina responded 4hrs later with a “ Sorry to hear that you can come now
As far as the color you told me you wanted your color like my client's hair. I added the v lights to your hair but unfortunately, you didn't have enough strands of hair to hold the hairs I can redo your top
Just keep in mind I can't give you a full hairline if there's no hair to attach it to” (Latina did not say any of this in the consultation nor did she explain it while doing my hair, but still charged me for the v lights)
Latina never took accountability, she was very insensitive, unapologetic, & proceeded to say the opposite of what she told me in the consultation. Not only did she not take accountability she said to me “you must not know how much hair loss you have”. How Insensitive and unprofessional is that for a licensed stylist to say to a client. I request a refund since she couldn’t give the original service she reassured she could provide. She refused to give me a full refund.
My worst hair experience ever!!!
Shortly after I wrote the review about my experience with Latina and Balance Hair Studio. Latina contacted me on my personal phone by text (now feeling harassed).
This is what t Latina texted me…
“You a bald head lie. That why you don't have any hair. I wish I would've kept the money now part of your review is correct”
Although Latina’s insulting mean spirited text makes me feel like I am being harassed and makes me wonder what she will do next. I’m glad that God chose me for this battle because her harmful insensitive mean spirited words could’ve potentially caused harm and did major damage to someone that has not healed. However I am healed enough to know that I have alopecia and alopecia does not have me. A person/ business owner who stoops this low to say those words to a person with a disability or condition obviously needs to do some healing of their own and should not be in business.

My hair came out really nice but the service was subpar. I wish she was more interactive and welcoming… I’m a naturally shy person so the first 30+ minutes of the service were very awkward, literal silence…. even after I had told her that it was my first time doing a silk press. It’s only after the dryer portion, that she asked a few personal questions but that was it. Knowing that this was my first silk press, I also wish she had explained the process to me step by step so I know what treatment’s are being done to my hair. I was also stunned by the trimming of the ends being $30… I paid because I’ve never had my hair trimmed and knew I needed to get them done but I feel it was way overpriced.
Hairstyle was 10/10 but overall experience was 5/10 honestly.

This review is based solely on my consultation with La'Tina.As a potential new client (and after reading the reviews), I expected a more welcoming and friendly demeanor from La'Tina. Instead, I was met with a very matter-of-fact tone and lackluster interest. La'Tina assessed the condition of my hair, and we discussed treatment for my hair as well as adding clip-ins. She gave recommendations and shared her knowledge on the best type of extensions for my hair type, and I appreciated that. Skillset and expertise are important, and La'Tina seems to have that based on her rave reviews. However, I require a personable stylist who provides a more welcoming experience, especially when I'm paying top dollar.

I have been seeing La'Tina at Balance Hair Studio for approximately 10 years. In that time my hair has grown and prospered. I moved to Chicago in 2022 and tried to find a stylist just as talented, but despite it being a big city, I didn't find any stylists in Chicago as talented, professional, reliable and educated on their craft. I now book appointments and flights every 2-3 months to have my hair treated and styled at Balance Hair Studio. It's worth it to me!Services: Shampoo & conditioning
