Very awesome personal tour. Our guide was so nice and showed us everything. Beautiful old houses and great history. They work on donations and only take cash. Donate appropriately.

We just moved to New Braunfels and went to the Conservation Society grounds on a whim to get away from unpacking. What a gem! Gave us great insight to the history of the area. Surprised there were not ore folks there as it has a wonderful village vibe. Will definitely be back and recommend all locals check it out.

It is a wonderful organization and they work very hard to keep the German history and culture alive. I hope during Wurstfest a lot of people visit the Kaffeehaus! They have delicious soup and sweets. Helgard /

Step back in time as you tour these original historic homes from the 1850's. This was the original town created by Prince Carl Braunfels Solm. He brought boatloads of Germans who were escaping poverty and famine seeking a fresh start. Prince Carl bought a very large tract of land for farms and created several towns. ☆☆☆☆☆ The Historical Preservation Society carefully and lovingly transported these homes from their original sites downtown. Painstakingly restored and rebuilt homes as per historical records. ( Homes were frail, some dmged in transit). ♡♡♡♡Wonderful, dedicated members are well versed in the history & a wealth of details. They are warm, friendly & accondating. Waited 30 mins for us as we traveled in. Free but Welcome & Need Donations. They are restoring & furnishing other buildings . Its quite expensive. You are given a personal guide & walking tour through the homes and barns. They explain the lives of the original owners and daily life in the settlement. Education was a strong tenet with schools built every 6 miles. German settlers arrived with the clothes on their backs. Very industrious; they had their own newspaper, brewery, blacksmith, music teacher, church . The general store contracted female residents to sell their wares ie clothes, pies, etc to earn extra money. The community was close & cohesive despite all the obstacles in their past.■■Locals can hold weddings there & several festivals held on property as well. Always looking for German historical artifacts to add to their collection.■■
