Service has gone downhill by quite a bit since new owner has taken over. It used to be well deserving of five stars with a staff knowledgeable in the cigars as well as the bar. Now it seems there are only half rate bartenders who now little to nothing about the tobacco side.. you know, the main part of the store! Could be a cool place with decent tobacconists and bartenders. The only reason i recommend this store anymore is because of their comprehensive selection of cigars.

Really cool atmosphere, great selection, great staff, great choices on drinks. Also has an outdoor area that’s nice. I had a nice nub with a modelo negra… fantastic!!

I’ve been to a lot of bars in a lot of places, but The Hemingway in Midland takes the cake — or should I say, the cube. Imagine my surprise when I ordered a drink and found out they charge for ice. Not extra liquor. Not some fancy mixer. Ice. Literal frozen water.
Apparently, if you want your whiskey served over a cube instead of straight or with the sad little hotel-style ice chips, that’s an upcharge. I’m not kidding. They treat ice like it’s imported from the Arctic and hand-carved by monks.
The bar itself is fine, nothing to write home about. Decent vibe, drinks are alright, but that whole “we charge for ice” thing is a joke. It’s not clever. It’s not bougie. It’s just annoying.
If you’re into being nickel-and-dimed for basic bar staples, this is your place. If not, save yourself the eye roll and go somewhere that doesn’t treat frozen water like a luxury.

Very helpful staff. Bought items as a gift, not sure on price points but seems like a great selection.

I’m a longtime patron of the Hemingway. I don’t live in Midland, so I’m not in weekly, but I travel here for work and have for years. The Hemingway and the staff have always been a highlight for me. That just isn’t the case any longer. When the new owner/management came in you felt the shift immediately. But I hoped it was just growing pains from the change. Unfortunately it just doesn’t have that effortless energy and vibe it always had before. The service is not what the previous management instilled and expected. This is such a disappointment. The Hemingway was a Midland treasure and it has just lost the luster.

Man. I wish we would have the old heming way back. Drinks decent price. Cigars perfect. Now you cnt even ask for crap 12 dollars cheap wiskey 4 dollars a cube. Cigars that cost 8 dollars are now 17. I mean what can i say. Sorry i cnt come back no more. One cheap cigar one cheap wiskey and one beer mind you 1 of each 50 dollars outrageous.

Hi, this place was once owned by some amazing people and the new owners have really done a horrible job. Alexus was one of my favorite servers and my husband and I went there specifically for her. We are both O&G management and really enjoyed networking here. The service is horrible and management keeps firing people and then banning them saying they are on drugs. I believe her name is Suzy. Defamation of character is not looked at in a good way in West texas and it was appalling that she came to our table and reported this after letting her go. It’s truly disgusting and we will no longer frequent this place or waste our hard earned money on a place so “Dallasfied!”

It used to be a good place before the change of ownership started ruining the atmosphere of the place.

MY DAUGHTER FELT TARGETED. We were on the patio and she ordered a topo chico and was carded. This is not an alcholic drink. She's 26 and didn't have her I.D. The GM (she told us numerous times that she was the GM and it was her establishment) insisted she had to have her ID according to TABC. That's understandable, although we've been there numerous times and she has never been carded. We would have just left but my husband and her bf came out with beers and cigars (BTW BF IS YOUNGER THAN HER & WAS NOT CARDED) so she went home and got her ID. When she came back, SHE HAD TO CALL THE GM OVER to the table to look at her ID. She showed her, her Navy ID which has the birthdate on the back and the GM NEVER BOTHERED TO TURN THE ID OVER TO SEE THE BIRTHDATE, it stayed in my daughter's wallet. Interesting since she was so worried about TABC!! Daughter asked do you card everyone and she said no just people under 30. Evidently not since bf was not carded and he was drinking and smoking. SHE WAS NOT DOING EITHER! We will not be back. It's a shame my husband used to spend a lot of $$$ in this place but never again. BTW They were smoking $35 cigars that night.
