My tax dollars are being misspent. I just spoke to the least helpful government employee I have ever had the displeasure of contacting. We left a message for animal services hours ago. She lied about calling me back and leaving a voice-mail. She was hostile and abrasive from beginning to end. There is still a large dog with a collar and possibly microchipped in my backyard, growling when I get near it, which she never had any intention of dealing with. It is guarding my shed with several cats that i care for hiding underneath it. It won't leave. If any of the animals in my care are hurt because she won't do her job what are my options? I am at a loss. Mesquite Animal Services must do better.

They don’t help and very rude need to be fired. If this is a shelter for animals then how come they can’t take any animals that are dropped off on the streets in. They are suppose to help not be a jerk.

They sold me a kitten with a big skin lesion on the side of his body and just covered it with his fur. Now they’re refusing to tell me what it is. They caked something on it to make it less noticeable and then had me sign a contract that I’m liable for it. They know what it is and they won’t tell me. They literally treated it and tried to cover it up.

While they try to do a good job, there lacking, I've been there 3 times, and every time the employees are gathered around like 5 of them. And instead of tending to the animals. They should be walking those poor dogs, to release stress from the construction going on, bath the animals, to cool them off, or clean the poop out of their cages, I saw a bunch of that wen I went. Your not getting paid to chit chat. Help the animals. That's wat volunteering means. They got very angry at me cause I took a dog back. . The dog was sick, he had allergies ,sneezed all over the house, he stunk, tried to bath him, he made a mess, this poor dog was stressed out, prepare the dogs for adoption! One place had a dog that hadn't bathed in a month. Imagine tat. Poor animal. DO YOUR JOB. and yes, I will volunteer.. help me get him well so I can adopt again. I know there's free help out there for these dogs, .use the resources. Or your going to keep getting dogs back. Who wants to adopt a sick pup?

They made me keep a dog who is microchipped to a different owner and changed his microchip information to my husbands, insisting that we were lying about having found him on the side of the road and proceeded to give us citations Without a police officer present. This is a horrible shelter to take any animal to they will treat you poorly, and if you’re trying to go bring an animal that you had found as a stray, they will force you to keep it and say that it is yours, even if it is not yours. They help me, my husband and our 7 month old baby there for over an hour refusing to give back my husbands ID, all while hearing my baby scream out because he was hungry. I called the city to lodge a formal complaint, and I’m taking this to court, because everything they did was illegal.

We found a kitten a Home Depot and took him to the shelter when we arrived a big guy came out and told us what was the issue we told that we found a kitten and then he proceeded to tell us if we were the one that dropped him off. He then told us he couldn’t take him in because he’s to feral and does not weight over two pounds. He told us to drop him back off where we found him and if someone told us something about it to just say that he told us to do it .

My sister took 2 stray bulldogs in to see if they were chipped and to let them know she had them in case their owners turned up looking for them. They insisted on keeping them even tho she offered to keep them until the rightful owners turned up. If they didn’t, then she would keep them & care for them. The shelter refused to let her take them home & even had her fill out the adoption paperwork. Then they told her they would be sterilized before they would be ready to go back home with her after no one claimed them. Low & behold, when my sister called to see if they were ready to be picked up, she was met with lies! They said they’d been turned over to a rescue but gave attitude when she tried to get answers as to why they were turned over instead of given back to her like it had been initially planned. Then I called & they told me they didn’t have room for them because they had too many dogs in the shelter. Well duh! That’s why she offered to keep them to begin with!!!! Let’s see if I can get anyone with a heart to give us some answers “tomorrow”.

We took a stray cat in last week to just get fixed and bring her back to our property since our residents loved her. Now they tell me they sent her to some rescue because she was deemed adoptable but won’t tell me where so I could try to still adopt her and then HUNG UP on me!

Adopted a baby boy from here about two years ago now, the process was speedy and fast now he's a big boy!
Don't know if they do this anymore but they had a discount for adopting pets a certain day of the week so it wasn't so expensive!
Please don't stop donating to this shelter. It's the only one in mesquite and it needs more funds to get better and continue treating these poor animals :)!

I would love a response from this place as to why an animal in here that we want to ADOPT, instead goes to some "rescue" organization instead of a loving family. And then you can't even tell us what "rescue" org has first claim on the dog? Let me guess, I find the same dog on this "rescue" page, but pay a huge "adoption" fee.
Too long didn't read for y'all.
They let some animals go to "rescue" organizations so they can profit off these animals by charging higher "adoption" fees. Please respond as to why animals on hold claimed by rescue organizations can't have any information shared to the people wanting to know what animal listed on your site is then going to basically be sold on another.
No one told us what "rescue" organization claimed the animal.

place is TERRIBLE I went to take a cat I came across that was bleeding from her stomach and had serious problems. When I arrived I came across this place and told them about the situation they said it would cost up to 1,000$ and a 4 hour wait. Was ridiculous service was terrible do yourself a favor and do not come here.
