Just left the hertz at McAllen airport , staff was incredibly unprofessional and did not help me one bit- I made a reservation through a 3rd party site and when I arrived they did not have the vehicle I internees to reserve which was a small compact car - they then wanted to offer me a truck for double the price, I do not understand how they do not check the reservations on third party sites. The woman then said because I made the reservation today it was not available. I then asked her to cancel my reservation and she refused and told me to call and cancel myself through third party. It’s just insane how you reserve and make the trip to rental car pick up and they did not help you and then want to yo charge you and give you a different vehicle. And then you walk to the car lot and see a bunch of compact cars which is what you reserved. Make it make sense?

Christel is just a Blessing!We’ve been on the phone with Hertz for hours before renting a car with them at Dallas Airport bc we needed to take the vehicle to Mexico.Arriving at DFW they handed us the SUV but had no idea how to add the insurance to go to Mexico. They told us to stop closer to the border, they would know how to do it.We stopped at two other Hertz stations along the way, none of them had any idea.Arriving in McAllen we went to this station and gladly met Christel. She told us that we couldn’t take an SUV cross country (the first person at Hertz to know about that!!!) and was kind enough to switch our car and add the insurance to go to Mexico.On our way back we swapped cars again and we’re good to go back to Dallas. Christel literally saved our trip! Thank you for your kind and caring service!

I should have read the reviews! They screwed me and the staff at the counter did not care one bit. Horrible customer service, unapologetic. I made my reservation a week in advance. Prepaid for it IN FULL with my debit card, because their website allows you to do so, and had it confirmed. I arrived to pick up my vehicle with my license, debit card used to purchase and credit card in tow, just to be told that because I'm a resident of the RGV I could not pay for the rental with a debit card. Incredibly stupid policy and yet it states that NOWHERE, not on the website, not at the counter, this is just what they make up I guess and tell you when you arrive. Apparently I'm not the only one they have done this to. I was informed that I would have to call the 1800 number to try and get reimbursed. And if I wanted to get the rental I'd have to re-reserve and of course the new reservation would be at whatever the current rates are... which of course is astronomically higher than when you reserve in advance. I will be reporting to the BBB. TRASH COMPANY WITH TRASH EMPLOYEES.

The staff at this location are unhelpful and don't even pretend to care. Incompetent and ineffective, should not be employed in customer service. Cancel your reservation here or regret it.

Made the reservation for a small car, was confirmed, and was not reserved. ‘It’s hard to say no when they ask for the cheaper small cars and to sell the bigger cars and suvs’. Girls, it’s easy to say, ‘no, there is a reservation online’, and it’s easy to check online periodically for reservations that are reserved from third-party sites. Just check.I didn’t like how my one credit card did not go through after putting money it prior & this girl working on the side, that was putting in her two cents during an A & B conversation, just had to say she has 5 credit cards. Wow. Great for you, girl, what you don’t have is common sensibility to shut up.Matter of fact, should fire those that worked 12/03/2024 because they had a paper with the reservations and I just cannot believe they are that incompetent & stupid enough to not push the sell of the SUV’s to those that walked up to the counter and did not make a reservation to keep those smaller cars. If they can’t manage a list of reservations & push the upsell of the more expensive vehicles while holding the reservations, then they need to be in a different line of work.

Incompetent staff and classist local policies. My job requires me to travel out of town for work and I was recently rear ended which left my vehicle out of commission. I booked a reservation online for a small/mid-size SUV to get to Houston for a week long job. Used a debit card for the payment and received two confirmations with information of what would be needed to pick up the vehicle day of. When I arrived I was told that I could not pick up the vehicle without a credit card even though my debit card was already charged. There was no such notice that this would be required at any point between booking and confirmations. I was told this was a policy for people who have an address in the RGV. Due to not having a credit card available the attendant (Alex) shrugged their shoulders and told me figure it out online and that there was nothing they could do for me. No further options or solutions. I asked two more times if there was there was any other options for us available. I was told no. I had to call customer service to cancel my reservation and fight to not be charged a cancellation fee due to a local policy not allowing me to receive a reservation that was already paid in full. I was finally given a refund without the fee, though the funds I paid in full are now stuck in limbo for 8 days which prevented me from being able to rent a vehicle from another company as my trip is tightly budgeted. My wife continued to speak with the attendants while I was on the phone only to find out they could have put us in a sedan but could no longer help us due to the reservation being canceled. I am now losing a lot of money by not being able to travel to my out of town gig and have hundreds of dollars that can’t be accessed for over a week. It is bad enough that this location allowed a payment to be accepted without notification of their classist policy, but the ignorance and unprofessional demeanor of the staff only made things worse. This wasn’t just a bad experience. This situation severely affected my income and professional reputation. Aside from that, any policy of payment method that only pertains to a certain area code is severely classist and arguably racist. Avoid this location at all cost.

I DO NOT not recommend Hertz at McAllen International Airport. I made a reservation weeks in advance, but my flight was delayed by several hours. I tried calling the airport twice during their posted business hours to confirm that I’d still be able to pick it up, but there was no answer.I arrived at the airport and, behold, no one was at the counter. There were no instructions for after- hours pickup. So, I took an Uber to my hotel for the night (thankfully it was close).The next morning, I was able to cancel my rental with Hertz and booked through Avis. I had a car in less than 30 minutes.I’ve used Hertz extensively, and have never had an experience like this. Stay away from this location!

McAllen location has very poor customer service. Alex at the counter is very rude, and unhelpful. She promised she would wait for me to arrive at 9:15pm but when I arrived at the counter, the closed sign was up even though it says they close at 9:30! The other rental companies said Hertz always does this to their customers every day!! Are you trying to get sued or something? False advertisements, and they did not want to refund my money! DO NOT RENT FROM HERE. Go next door with Avis! Or Enterprise!

Very nice person at the desk and was quick to process rental. 4 stars because i called the day prior asking if the price I see was the price I pay, and was told yes. The next day my total was 20$ more than said price.

Hours of operation is an inconvenience to travelers arriving after hours, or early in the morning. Overall, customer service was fast and convenient.

If I could give this -10 I would. We paid for a week through Expedia. When we tried to pick it up, Alex, said that because of the small crack in the corner of my husband’s driver’s license, she said they could not honor our agreement for altered documents. Our home state accepts it. When we tried to put it in my name. She said she couldn’t help us. We would have to call Expedia to change or get a refund. We walked 5 feet to the left and Avis got us taken care of us. The charge was even less. Hertz had a terrible attitude and terrible customer service. Horrible way to start out our trip. Now to try and get our money back. Do not use this company. We travel quite often and have never encountered worse service.

Fat orange hair girl is rude as hell. She said because I "booked last minute" they didn't have a car for me. So I showed her my confirmation email showing I actually booked 2 weeks in advance, and she laughed at me and said "Oh well we still don't have cars." There parking lot was full. Yet people from the other rental companies said they were taking walk up customers. No wonder this company is bankrupt .Fire that orange hair chick hertz.

If you use a debit card, not only do they want flight information (none of there business), two forms of ID (not everyone has that), a $500 deposit (I'm renting a car, not buying one), and the kicker and final straw: a credit check!! Don't care if it's not a hard hit. I have some right to privacy. Hertz, you have lost your mind!! You just lost a customer for life. Ride share, public transportation, and rental companies that don't place undue burden on their customers will be my methods for now on. Good luck with your non-sustainable business model.
